Suspension, Brakes, Tires & Wheels - Control arms help!

I have a 94 civic lx and was wondering if a normal person could change the passengers side control arm. Or do u have 2 be really a mechanic. I want to save money so i can put more into my suspension. Any 1 kno a good site for tips, or at least where i can save $ on the control arms. thanxs.

which control arm? is it front? upper? lower?

also, why are you changing it. thats kind of an odd thing to have to change.

cuz during my car inspection the mechanic took the passenger front tire off and grabbed the wheel hub and pulled 2 check for safety. it was loose. I hope he is not tryin 2 jerk me. he said it had 2 much play and that it could come off at high speeds. I do have a civic which i do like 2 push 2 the max for a while. Cuz of the problem he did not let me pass on inspection. what u think? i think it is the upper arm

hmm... sounds a little fishy. it could be a few things, it sounds like it could be your wheel bearing, one of the ball joints, or one or more of the bushings that are pressed into the control arms. if youre not very mechanical, then id just pay to have it done. its not really that hard, but a good mechanic will pinpoint the problem and fix the right thing the first time. let alone the suspension tools youll have to buy. also, when it comes to suspension, a lot of things are pressed into place, and you have to take it to a machine shop to get a new one pressed in, like wheel bearings and bushings. you may consider a polyurethane bushing kit if the bushings are the problem. lastly, if you accidentally miss something when youre putting the suspension back together, it could be disasterous. good luck.

polo they arent that tough on the stangs.

but i believe you should be able to do the job your self jsut get some good stands and a jack

if you only want to lower it a little, then go with a good set of lowering springs from eibach or tein. if you want to dump it as low as you can, then dont do it cheaply. trust me, tires get expensive. save money until you can afford everything you need to do it right. springs, shocks, front and rear camber kits, and a good alignment. then your tires will last 5 times as long and you will be happy you didnt do it one thing at a time. ive gone through enough tires since i dropped my car (on cheap ass springs i got from a friend) to buy a full tein coilover setup. damnit.
