I have a 94 honda civic that has 170,000 miles on it. After a few months of owning it, it started to burn a lot of oil. I just replaced the cylynder head after the old one went bad. Now it burns a lot more oil, worse than before. I was wondering if you might no whats wrong with it or what I can do to fix the problem.

your piston rings could of taken a crap on you and you are getting a lot of blow bye with the oil scraper rings not doing there job, by scraping almost all of the oil that was thrown from the crank onto the cylinder wall back to the oil pan but that is my guess is that your piston rings in a couple of pistons took a crap[sm=icon_cheers.gif]

I concur.

Sure sounds like the rings are fried...are you sure the head you put on is good?

Your rings are definitely shot, and it sounds like either your cam seal is leaking, or (if there's no leak) the valve seals in the new head are crap.

do a wet and dry compression test.... if its higher when you put some drops of oil in the cylender then before, then its your rings...

The fact that it got worse after the headswap is what makes me think that the valve seals in the new head could also be shot.

Well, the seals around the valves seperate the valvetrain (which is obviously heavily oiled when the engine is on) from the intake/exhaust ports and from the cylinders themselves. If the seals are leaking, the oil that settles in the bottom of the valve indents in the top of the head would leak down along the valves into these areas.

so there's no actual seal, like an oil seal on the cam or crank, this would be a reason for having the valve seats reground instead, if i get you right?
