Do u guys de-badge your cars? Thats where u take off all the writing on the trunk, like where it says honda or civic. I did mine and I think it looks WAY better.</P>

I personally like the badging on my car but I'm gonna change out the "H" emblem to the 2002 Red "H". Looks much better. On your car polo, either way looks good <IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0">

How do you de-badge a car. I saw it done using masking tape (to avoid damaging your paint) and also with a string-like material.

Can someone post pix of an EK coupe to show the difference b/w badged &amp; de-badged. That way, I'll know for sure if taking off the emblems (xcept "H") is the way to go. <IMG src=smileys/smiley17.gif border="0">

wish i had a pic of mine to show you but i can say it looks alot better. really cleans up the back end. bug and tar remover will get the adhesive off easily without damaging the paint. the only problem might be that the black paint on your car may have faded slightly since 98 leaving a slightly darker civic ex mark on the back. nothing a good wax and buff shouldnt fix</P>

polo708

I used dental floss... run it between the emblem and the car body using a saw motion. Then soak the remaining adhesive with goo gone and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Then start picking at it with your fingernail. When your done, wax the area and your done. It took me about 30 minutes to do 2 emblems.</P>

good luck</P>

yup. any type of non abrasive adhesive remover and a sponge...hair dryer helps in loosening the adhesive before you clean it off.</P>

info abt goo gone can be found here: http://www.magicamerican.com/products_gg.shtml. It basically can remove chewing gum, grease, labels, tape resiude, oil, lipstick, crayone, and bumper stickers to name a few.

hair dryer??? wait i can use a hair dryer to help remove the emblems, and stuff??? and it wouldnt harm the paint??? my friend said he just used a screwdriver covered in some soft cloth, and he just popped it right off.... ? so you say dental floss and goo gone is the safest/best way to go? or is there a safer way?

slim11420
05-03-2004, 11:56 PM
heat the emblem with the hair dryer...peel the badge...continue to heat the remaining adhesive...dont cook your car just get the adhesive warm enough to become soft...use bug and tar remover (designed for removing stuff from your paint) or goo gone along with a soft sponge to remove the rest.....wax and buff....done. easy as that and safe for your paint</P>

^ what slim referred to is only for the civic and DX/LX/EX emblems only. Until Outsider told me abt the "H" emblem being removed from the backside, I didn't know how that was done. Here is a write up by Handa Accessories of how to do it: http://www.handa-accessories.com/civic/civicgoldemblems.pdf. Btw, this link also shows how to take off the civic emblem.

D.floss/goo-gone is the safest. If you use a screwdriver there is more of a chance of scratching your paint and if u just rip it off u could take some paint with you

How long &amp; what temp. setting should you hold the hairdryer over the emblems b4 you realize they are starting to come off? Also, should you wash the back of your car to get all the dirt off coz I know when you wax it, the surface area has to be clean. </P>

You only use the hairdryer to warm the gooey stuff up before u use the dental floss. Heating it wont just make them fall off.</P>

Use at medium to high heat for about 3-4 minutes about 6 inches from the paint (not right on it)</P>

For those of you who don't have pins holding the "H" onto the back of their car like mine, looks like the EP3 Red "H" seems to be much easier to put on as opposed to other models. I checked to see if my "H" had pins but it seemed to me I couldn't get to the back of it when I opened up the trunk.</P>

I PMed JDM'ishFerio over at JDM Honda Civic Forum who had the EP3 emblem on his EK Civic. Here is what he replied to me: "<FONT size=2>Yeah, the EP3 H is a bit bigger thanthe EK one. It installs with sticky tape on the back. I don't remember, but I think there were pins on the back, but they need to be cut off. It's not that difficult at all. Use a hair dryer to heat up the adhesive, and stick it on."</FONT></P>

dude i jsut used a hammer and a screwdriver to tap out the pins in the "H" on the trunk. it doesnt take much heat to get the emblems to come off. a lot of the time if your car has been sittin in the sun for a bit they will come off w/o a hiardryer. thats what i did a few times.

Roentgen

Well my car stays in the garage when I'm at home so its not exposed to any sunlight unless I'm working. green98, when you put on your new "H" emblem, could you attach it to therear with adhesiveor did you have to go behind where the inside of the trunk is. I'm asking coz here is what the inside looks like of my car and it doesn't look like I can get behind where the "H" is located.</P>

jsut look around a little bit. it took me a minute to find them but they are 2 small while plastic clips. it will take a few minutes but just tap them out of the holes. its tough to do with me bing so tall but i managed to kinda sit in the trunk kinda and scope it out.the new H i got had 2 new plastic clips and a tiny strip of 2sided tape on the top of the ring around the H. it will pop right into place even and everything.</P>

Ok, I found the 2 (blue or green) clips behind where the "H" is located. It's kind of tight in that area but I guess getting them in/out won't be too muchof a problem. </P>

green98, you have the EK emblem right, but with the EP3 I prbly need to make new holes coz of the size. This might be a little trickier, so even tho I hate to do it, I will more than likely go with the Red EK "H" emblem. <IMG src=smileys/smiley6.gif border="0"></P>

I wouldn't recomend using paint thinner. The paint itself may not be harmed but your clearcoat will. I used a glass cleaner (let is soak into the sticky stuff for a while then use your thumb to clean the gunk off (it may require doing this a few times). After all the sticky stuff is off, put some wax on, clean that off then your good to go.

NO PAINT THINNER !</P>

</P>

Use the Goo-Gone or WD-40 or just alcohol and elbow grease.</P>

Goo-Gone is at WalMrt etc, not hard to find in the cleaner isle.</P>

I painted my H gloss black to help hide it, cuz of the two white pins</P>

and the car is dark blue so the black will blend in.</P>

This way I will hide the pins without having to fill and paint.</P>

AND get those badges off the car.</P>

I've got a few badges from 'other' cars that I magnetically stick on every now and again, just to have some fun.</P>

To remove the adhesive I was thinking abt using Goo Gone'sAutomotive or the regular Spray Gel (drip-free). To me, this will be better to usethan the one in the cylindrical bottle coz that can be a little messy unless you apply it to a soft cloth.</P>

I have one important question for those who have done de-badging. What are the chances of your car showing a 'ghosting effect' that is left behind after taking the emblem(s) off. There is a possiblity but doesn't seem to occur that often. "Ghosting" I mean you will see where the emblem once was and there is a shadow.

It could depend on how long the area has seen sun.</P>

The paint could have faded and then the badge could ghost through.</P>

A fine polish should help that if it isn't too bad.</P>

Mine is new so there is no chance of that.</P>

The black H looks good.</P>

I wish I could have removed it entirely but it's too much to remove, fill paint the small holes left in the trunk lid.</P>

Abt the wax to put onto your car... I have the kind you put on a rag and spread it around &amp; I also have the spray on type that is clear. On my EG sedan i removed the H and the civic emblem, the emblem i got off using a product similar to goo-gone, then put an EK civic badge on in place of the H in the centre of the trunk.

I got the idea after seeing an S13 Silvia with an S15 Silvia badge, looks kinda cool, plus ive never seen another civic with one, at least not in my city anyway.

But debaging the back is a good idea my civic does not have nothin on the back so the boy racers cuming up from the back have no idea what there racing :D lol

took ALL badging off my car. No way I want to advertise for other people. You should know what I'm driving without looking at the badging anyway. I think it is so much better.

i actually didn't do it initially but someone ripped off my SiR badge from the trunk and I thought, I might as well do it myself. Protect the paint. The guy didn't really care that he scratched the **** out of my trunk.

now I have nothing but the H on the trunk (cuase i didn't want to waste time filling the 2 holes and painting it). Everything else is gone. (even the H in the fron grill).

holy ****.. if a dealer did a **** job on my car i would be in there the next day screaming at them. You should go in there and demand they fix it and you won't back down unless they've done a satisfactory job. Cause, they might just slap some touch up paint on and do a **** job.

ouch, someone stole your badges, like which ones??? if all of them, dayum!!!!

but hey for bethany, try going to walgreens, and buying this touch up stuff called gs27 it works wonders on small scratches! its maybe close to ten dollars and all you need is a cotton cloth or something, and once you put it on and rub it in, you sou cannot tell that the scratches were there.

sacicons

that stuff doesnt work too well in the long run though. its basically just wax. wax will do the same thing. the best thing ive heard, was if youre lucky enough to find the right shade of nail polish. then you have this tiny little brush and you can just keep retouching it if you get any new ones. my front bumper was WAY chipped from driving behind diesels on the freeway for 140k miles, adn so i got some of the dupli-color paint from autozone, and i sprayed a couple nice even coat of it over the chipped areas, it looks pretty good, theres no clear coat, so its not as shiny as the rest of tha paint, but it looks better than it did. im just waiting till i have all of my exterior stuff done, then im painting the whole car anyway, so its good enough for now.

I think it looks fine on cars that are for commuting only. If its a racing style than yea take the emblems off. I like mine on my new civic. The color contrast makes it look nice. It fits in nicely with the silver on the spoiler.

Here is a pic of my debadged 2000 Civic SE. The process used to remove the grill badge involved having some dufus back into the car and break the emblem in half, cracking the chrome trim around the grill and creasing the leading edge of the hood in the process... You gotta love hit and run drivers...
