Suspension, Brakes, Tires & Wheels - Cutting the springs

I,m replacing my stock shocks whit some KYB,s. I was wondering about cutting the springs and putting them back in whit some KYB Aajustable gas shocks.

Is this possible to do.??? With out killing my self???

Well my shocks are finish.And money is tight. My frend as a hatchback just like mine he cut the springs.I think 3or2 coils in the front and 4 in the back whit no shock modification. He dosent seem to have too much Camper problems.

And he drives it hard too he dropt an SIR its a 12s car.
I was just wondering if cutting the springs whould be compatable whit KYB,s

dont do it. you will regret it. it is dangerous and will DESTROY your handling. i understand money being tight, but ive done too many things the quick way and payed for it later. ive also seen people spin out on the freeway from a simple lane change, just because of the crappy wobble he had from cut springs. you can get a cheap set of coilovers from ebay for under 100 bucks. not the best way to do it, but WAY better than cut springs. you can find them even cheaper, used, from local people if you look around hard enough.

the time and effort you'll put into cutting springs will be a waste seeing that drop springs aren't that expensive.

exactly... Thats like the worst thing you could do to your suspension, its just dangerous.

Cutting the springs is doable and I have seen it done well on some cars but really it comes down to weighing the effort vs the costs of a set of legit drop springs.

You need to remove the springs to cut 'em and then reinstall, just like you would if you were to install a set of drop springs. The only difference between the two operations is all the time wasted figuring out how many coils to cut, cutting them and then doing the whole thing over again if you mismeasured (I've seen cars like that too...visibly leaning over to one side or sitting too low in the back/front because the coils weren't cut right).

You could do a full spring swap in a couple of hours. You might spend all weekend fooling around with cutting 'em.

Drop springs are so cheap for these cars that it makes it almost too much work to cut the coils.

yea i have seen cars where the person did a good job and it looksed good but those are hard to come by, if you dont know what ur doing it can look horrible asside of the handling..

Nooooooo dont do it.....
This will make you ride like a Jeep with out springs...believe me....

Yo..is it a Good idea to have some KYB's AGX in the front and have some TOKIKO's in the back...what will that do..?? Will This affect the handleing.?
