Yes, it would horribly retard the light. Thats the whole point of the mirror in your head lights.

no i dont think so. I may be wrong, but I think that the part that is commonly painted doesn't reflect any light.... I may be wrong, but thats what I can tell from cars I have looked at, etc.,

Anyone else?

It mainly 'fills' in the head lamp. If you paint it black, it wont be as reflective. After all the typical bulb DOES reflect off the back of the lamp entirely.

correct me if im wrong.

JDMcarboy.com has them (black, chrome and gunmetal*unavailable at this time*) for sale, shipped to your door for $130... that's pretty good if the quality is good...

Basically, the standard in Civics is a halogen bulb reflecting of a computer designed prizmatic surface-(unless you have aftermarket projectors)--Thats the surface you DONT want to touch with any kind of paint, that WILL mess up your light output-
It will make it almost completely unuseful- the parts you want to paint are just next to those prizmatic surfaces, simply put the "trim." If that doesnt satisfy you, you can tint the housings themselves without pulling them all apart-if you need to know how-or have more q's drop a line!!

blackflame- how do you tint the outside? i've seen it done... but how? can you buy the stuff at the store and simply install better lights to make up for the loss from the tint?

Headlight tinting is extremely easy if you have the patience and the equipment---Basically, the short version, is youll need to remove the headlights(or tailights-whatever ur tinting), sand(scuff) them, shoot them with your black tint spray, which for best results should be reduced-out automotive transparent black paint-then color sand-next, clear coat and wet sand like a car panel-buff out to desired shine-

-Thats primarily done for the external light housing-Painting the interior is a differet story--either one I can do for a decent price--I do reccomend a second set of headlights, so you dont loose downtime, driving the car or lay it up while you or I am doing the process--let me know if anyone has any other Q's-Im more than glad to help!
