Due to lack of funds and increasing interest in potential of "the d" im thinking about mini me with the y8 head. Wat kind of gains should i expect from the base 70 hp with the y8? will i get into the 120 range of the stock y8 or should i just swap for the whole y8. I also plan to get an si/ex tranny with the head. Any suggestions will be gratefully apreciated.

you need to remember that the cx has 8 valves, and therefore only eight valve pockets in the pistons, so a 16v head will have some problems with that swap. im not 100% sure they will hit, but i would do a piston swap too, if you use the pistons out of a zc motor, it will bump the compression ratio about half a point as well. or clay it before you actually install it to check clearance.

I don't know if the CX is usable for a mini me though. Here's why: the cx has 8 valve piston, the z6/y8 head is 16 valves. the reliefs in the pistsons are not there for the extra valves.
While it was done on the 4th gen HF by Cory, and that is the article on here, without a piston swap, im not sure it can be done.

EDIT:

now, i read this on h-t
"However, the D15b8 (Civic CX) engine, which is almost identicle to the D15b6, is also a 8 valve engine, but I am for certain it has 4 valve reliefs per piston. So I dont see why you couldnt do a mini-me on one of those."

Quote i found on honda swap....not sure if this info is correct any comments?

actualy you are wrong with the 8 valve pockets in the pistons, the d15b7 and b8 are the exsact same bottom ends with the 4 valve pockets. The "8 valve" layout are across from each other like an X so to speek air comes into the left and goes out the right so yes a vtec head will fit just nicly on top of the cx motor

im not trying to affend any one by what i said. I have just done a "mini me" swap on my cx 8 valve and there were 4 valve pockets. the motor ran flawlessly we remebered that we forgot to tighten up the timing belt tentioner

so there WERE four valve pockets? wierd. i guess thats how honda cuts corners. then theres one less piston casting to make. my bad. i know thats how it is on other cars, but ive never actually taken apart an 8v honda motor.

i would amagine they did this because of cost and didnt have to design another piston but that is also probably why the compression is pretty low like 9:1:0 i think or something like that, but like i was saying earlier the D15b7 16valve and the d15b8 are identical bottom ends. I didnt have a problem with the swap until the timing belt slipped off and the valves kissed the pistons.[:@] my bad on that part[:o]
