Drivetrain DIYs - Pulling a Check Engine Light (CEL) Code by XCM828

This DIY was done on a '97 Civic, but should be about the same for all 6th gens.

1st you have to find the electrical connector behind the ECU. You will then use a jumper wire to connect the two wires going into the connector, and the CEL will blink the code to you.

Here is where the connector is located. It is easier if you unbolt the ECU, and move it to the side. The blue connector is stuck into a green rubber holder, and you can use some needle nose pliers to pull that sucker outta there.

Stick your jumper wire in there like so:

Turn the ignition, but do not turn the engine on. Here's a little video of what the blinking code looks like. Long blinks are 10's, and short blinks are 1's. This one blinks code 41.

Once you have your code, use a Haynes or Chilton, or find a list online to look up your code.
