Have driven an SS many times and they are nice, but way too long for me. That hood is like 12' long. Basically, would you rather build the hatch and beat an SS, or have an SS and get beat by a hatch?

or put bolt-ons with a cam and a set of heads on the SS and eat 10 second 1/4's

You think those hoods are are long, you should try driving my old '85 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. THAT"S a long ass hood! But man did that thing float down the road. Never felt safer in any other car than that one. Kinda miss that car...

A camaro SS gets 27 mpg???
They are nice cars but that reminds me about what a guy said to me the other day. I was leaving my salon and there was a guy getting into a SS. He said why are you wasteing your time on a honda to make it as fast as my car is stock. I told him that I wasn't trying to make a camro, trans am, mustang killer. I just like honda's and I just want mine faster than most ricers. He said that's a dumb answer. I said well I got something at home for your SS and just got in my little honda hatch and drove off. Some of those redneck guys that drive those cars ( not saying everyone that has one is a redneck) are just idiots.

I drove to NC one time and got around 33mpg on the highway ;)
Thats some good milage for a car with that much power. I don't know what none of my cars get to the gallon.

I bet your Vette will get in that area on the highway in 6th gear going 70 to 90mph
I wouldn't have guessed that. I guess my car gets good mpg also. When I get it out tho I drive it pretty hard since I don't drive it much.

LS and LT engines are a lot more efficient than a lot of people think. I think within the price range, not only is the base C6 almost twice as fast as the competition, it gets by far the best gas milage. those big block engines are underrated as a DD engine.

Wow Im so jealous! haha.. I love the Fbodys. My bf has been playing with the thought of selling his Silverado to buy a SS probably since Ive known him. But now he has been looking at the new Silverado SS, or 03 (I believe they only made em in 03) Trailblazer SS. I think he just wants one cause they come with the LS2. Good luck and have fun with your new car!!! O and be careful, cause it probably will be a lot different going from the Civ to that. And those things fishtail pretty easily.

so, if tens are so easily attainable, then why are there so many 13-14 second f bodies at the track?

A friend of my father's has a new vette, not sure what model. It gets 31 mpg on the highway and turns over 1700rpm at 75mph.

the reason for 13 Second F-bods is ill let you in on a secret either they have no money to Fix the week Differential or they cant drive the week Differential must be replaced with a 12 bolt or a (' in rear cuz if you get that bad boy to hook on that stock rear end say bye bye you cant put its slicks or you can also say goodbye basically if you wanna be faster and hook its gonna cost you i know the 9inch cost about 2500 plus you need a steel driveshaft and a better clutch then once you got that down you can get those 13's down basically the biggest problem is launching em cuz they can burnout for days well the stick models i havent droven an auto if you notice at the track they burnout alot the guys with high eta's i paid 15K for this one
Patrick

that was the longest sentence ever..
and i am well aware of the capabilities of f-bodies..i was being sarcastic...but i hear so much of "this or that with a little work will runs 10s"...with a "little work", my car could run 10s....as long as that "little work was all weight reduction...:D

How well will you like it when gas hits 4 bucks a gallon?
Marty
02-28-2006, 01:05 PM
They are not that bad on gas.
The reason many are 13/14 second cars are because you get alot of people that dont mod them/rag the hell out of em/dont know how to drive. A 01/02 SS with a good set of street tires is a high 12 second car. You put a set of $1500 heads on it and a cam and your in the 11's if you can put the power down. God forbid you do forced induction. Gen III gm small blocks and that includes the truck engines and absurdly easy to make power with and regaurded as the best small block V8 design ever. You can take and swap in a 6.0 block from a truck with all stock internals and push in the area of 1000hp with F/I.
Patrick
02-28-2006, 01:08 PM
but i think that what you are forgetting, is that you cannot just bolt on 600 extra hp, and go out and run it..there has to be alot of other things built up to handle the added power
93SiHb
02-28-2006, 01:35 PM
dude this thing is great on gas on the highway on the street its a lil rough but i dont give a crap about gas being 4 bux thats why i kept my honda i drive it allweek to work i agree with Md on the possible best smallblock so far
Patrick
02-28-2006, 02:10 PM
plus, its going to take more "disasters" to get the gas prices that high..

I understand that, the point I was making is as far as the block and internals they are good foir monster power.
