I have an '04 civic vp(dx), and abviously am not satisfied with the power presented by the d17 motor. I'v read that the K series is the way to go for newer civics, but i was wondering if that engine would fit into my car, and what type of difficulties would be encountered during a swap?

Yes a k series will fit in your car.

The k-series will fit but it takes quite a lot of modifcations (transmission, ecu, and a few other things)

Damn, you have an a2? How much did that run you? I thought the a2's pumped out 220 hp.

Go for an A or A2... The a2 is a jdm engine so its gonna be really pricey.

Due to german emission restrictions the a2 only has 200 hp over here.[:@]
But after a few modifications it´s still good for 155 mph on the autobahn. ;)
