What about the K&N filters?

I've seen alot about them, but what else is neede to help this little engine breath better.

I'm not into loud 'coffee can' exhausts but am willing to open that up abit too.

personally i would do a custom CAI because of its price, only around 50 bucks! or if u really want to get a premade kit get the aem v2 very great intake.

if ur shooting for a new exhaust get one from hks, greddy, apexi, or skunk2!

I read the name cai a number of times here but don't know what it refers to.

Is that a brand name or a style?

Custom Air Intake?

Does this totally remove the stock air box?

I read an online article about the AEM V2...it does nothing like it says it does. It does not increase torque, and supposedly the intake itself runs over the radiator hose, causing the air passing through the tube into your engine to be very hot, decreasing HP. This was on a 2003 Civic SI...I'm not sure what make/year you have. I am thinking about going with either an INJEN CAI or just a K&N short ram air intake. I think it has a built on heat shield to block out the heat from the engine.

I hear you about the coffee can exhaust, too! Same here. Neuspeed also supposedly has a great sounding legal and not too loud exhaust...only problem is it's very $$$$$!!!

Where can I read up on the design of a Cold Air Intake.

I'd like to try that.

not really much to read up on about cai's. it jsut increases airflow and brigns in colder air. not much else to say

greddy makes 50 state legal exhaust but are specially designed for being quiet

Hey, i can get any K&N part i want for free. My friend, who doesnt like imports . His family races quads and his bro got a full factory sponsorship by K&N so they get all there parts free. and he lets me get my parts for free too .

ImportKid

its hard thing to get a hookup aka sponsered unless u have a sweet car already or a good contract to send out and when i go turbo i plan on going all custom doing premade kits are tad to expensive but are very nice aka the greddy kit! god damn nice too expensive for me tho!

From what I've seen, all the CAI is,

is just a filter (K&N etc) and a connecting tube.

Not much to it. . .

you got a point there, but most racers have to start out with no sponsers because whos goin to sponser a person with no race record or no experience?

ImportKid
04-26-2004, 09:05 PM
yea thats why u should go custom and yea im doing a little to my car and then trying to hand out good contracts for sponserships

One of the diy websites said it cost $70 for him to make one.

The AEM is only $137 for the short ram,

I'm not thinking about the $220 one.

well the V2 installed on a 93 civic si after tuning showed a gain of 5whp and 4tq, twice that of the old aem cai. something about sound waves enhancing combustion cyl filling. from what ive heard the short ram does virtually nothing when compared to the cai being that its suckin in hot air. i guess it would be as effective as a cai if you were to feed it nothing but cool air.

So it's much better to get the air from outside the compartment.

It does make sense.

The shorty is just hung over the engine, but doesn't get any of the exhaust heated air but still the engine abient heat.

The extended on goes to the bottom or front to get real cooler air.

I think I'm 'getting' it now.

Thanks

This is a huge discussion anywhere u go.

CAI or short ram... all the air under your hood is hot, the CAI takes it from a SLIGHTLY cooler location. The downside is the intake pipe is longer so you actually lose some of the low RPM torquewith the CAI, plus the short ram sounds way better! I personally went for the short ram (AEM to be exact) because everyone knows the bestthing about a4-banger is its high end power (ESPECIALLYA VTEC)... the low end is the part that needs help, with the CAI you are just hurting it alittle more, plus the HP gain btwn the 2 arent that big.

Just my opinion...

Good info the polo,\my previous car was a Corolla, under the Prizm badge.

It stayed stock.

But this Civic (altho it's only an LX) has soo much available for it, I keep seeing new things I'd like to try on a limited budget.

Cars are down my list for modding, but they have to be reliable.

I spent most me $$$ on the bike and radios.

But that's a another subject.
