so now i have this grinding noise obviously from the other forum i posted, so now im to decide what to do. options?
currently have 5 speed SI transmission installed
1. replace whole transmission with another SI or any kinda 5 speed which would have a different gear ratio
2. pull it out look through it and rebuild it
3. take it to the dealer and let them deal with it and pay the bill ( YEA RIGHT!!!) might as well bend over on that one

main concern money of coarse but is it really worth it to rebuild a tranny rather than buy a used one?
also how much do parts cost to rebuild and what do they consist of?

opinions? criticism?

anyone have a forum or word doc. pdf. on how to replace a tranny for a 99' ex?
thanks

I'm guessing you have a 4G, and it would definitely be easier and cheaper to buy a low mileage imported Japanese tranny (less than $200). Plus, you can't just "look through the tranny" and rebuild it; it's very very complicated, so there's a good chance you would end up with a problem and have to buy another tranny anyway.

i think it was a 5g, but just get a different one. a used one, its a whole hell of a lot cheaper than a rebuild.

4G and 5G refer to the generation of Civic. 4G (4th generation) is 88-91, while 5G (5th generation) is 92-95

As for the imported trannies, contact Foreign Engines. http://www.foreignenginesinc.com/contactinformation/
