I'm sure this is an issue that has been covered a zillion times-but I wasn't able to find it. I have a stock 84 CRX 1.5/5 speed-just passed smog in Calif after replacing the carb and distributor. I then drove the car to the Dallas ft worth area-and averaged between 33.5 and 35.6 mpg at 65mph. The problem is, the car won't go over 65 mph. With the car in nuetral, I can floor the accelerator pedal and the rpms will not go over 4,000-then starts falling below to 3,000 rpm. The original carb(I still have) had a major hesitation off idle. The shop that replaced it for me adjusted the valves, replaced a couple of sensors, vacuum hoses, and the distributor(it wasn't getting any vacuum advance), and adjusted the timing. I had all this and the smog test done to the car while I was out of the state, so I didn't get a chance to drive it before leaving Calif for Texas. If I give the car only slight throttle, it seems to respond a little better. Today I replaced the fuel pump and filter, just in case that was the problem--it was not! Any thought that the Catalytic converter(s) might be bad, even though it just passed smog in Calif? Thanks for the help! FYI, I am a muscle car nut, have a 72 Olds 442 Convertible, 70 Olds ramair Cutlass station wagon, 63 Nova, 80 El Camino with 87 Buick GN running gear, and a stock 91 2dr Honda Accord, + more! I bought the CRX a year or so ago to have an economy car in Calif so I wouldn't have to rent a car there once a month!
