There is a contest to pick the best Japanese car. Right now the RX-8 guys are stuffing the ballot box by clearing their cookies and rotating their IP. We can do that too, but rather win fair and square.
The Rx-8 beat the SI in # of votes the first round..........

i just vted........52-48 in favor of honda...........now if we were speaking mazda in general i would have voted mazda..........rx3 owns all honda's imo

i will probably get my new shiny mod badge taken from me for this...but im sad that the RX8 lost. ive driven one. hella nice car. i learned stick on my dads RX7 and it starts to get shaky at 70 and i wont dare take it over 90 (the thing is shaped like a wing and weighs less than most civics). i thought the RX8 would be the same until i drove my dads friends/friends dad (same dude). i hit what felt like 50 by the time i started checking for a merge point on the highway and looked down at the spedo and was at 80 and still accellerating. that car is insanely quick in the accel and the shifter is notchy as hell, smooth clutch, smooth as hell steering...its just a sweet car.
never driven an s2k tho so im not knocking it.

Top gear is garbage IMO, fun to watch but totally bias and un-fair to anything other than British cars. I honestly do not like the power band in the car, the RWD layout was honda's chance to make decent tq and not have it overwelm the car but the didn't. The S2K allso is like all other F/H series and you get no kind of power out of it at all with bolt ons and tuning. I am just not a fan of either car. Sorry, my opinion.
I would take a MAZDASPEED Miata over both of them

ya the Mazdaspeed mazdas are great cars...i would love to have a msprotege. the newer generation miatas are a bit bulky for me..and i believe their coming out with an ms 3 next year.

Yeah Top Gear is biased and unfair but its hilarious and fun to watch more than most car tv shows.

more ppl like the rx8 just because they see it drifting and all that jazz...mx5's arnt looked at the same way as an rx8 is in most eyes..

theyre in completely different price ranges. the MX5 is up as competition against the solstice and the sky, and it runs the price of a base mustang. its not the 40k beast that the s2k is. the s2k would kick the crap out of a mazdaspeed miata any day, all day. when the s2k first came out, Car and Driver described it as 'Everything the Miata should have been, and then some'. its a much better car.
of course now that i think about it...even if you check all the options boxes on a top-end RX8 it still totals to about 33k...still cheaper than the base s2k. its still not a fair competition.
btw when the rx8 first came out Car and Driver put it up against both the Mustang SVT Cobra and the Infinity G35 and they decided its a better car than both of them.
