I dont know if any of you picked up the new road and track, but they tested a bunch of SUV's the SRT8, Cayenne Turbo, FX45, BMW X5 4.8is, and the TBSS.
The SRT8 was fasest by a wide margain. It ran 0-60 in 4.6 seconds (compared to 5.3 for the Cayenne) and through the 1/4 at 13.2 @ 104, which tells me this thing has got 12s in it all day bone stock! I cant wait for next spring when NED opens back up! Im keeping it stock throughout the winter just so i can get a baseline run.
I thought it was funny they said the Grand Cherokee SRT8 is what the Cayenne should have been; 100 percent focused on, on road perfomance. The SRT8 also pulled a better 300 ft skid pad than a Mustang GT. Not bad for an SUV.
Sorry if no ones intrested i just cant hold back my excitment for this thing. I LOVE IT!! and for anyone intrested GO DRIVE ONE!! :D

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SRT8
Quicker to 60 mph than a Porsche Cayman S
Quicker around the skidpad than a Ford Mustang GT
Quicker through gas than a Dodge Viper
The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is the new bad-ass SUV. From its super-low front air dam — that screams “not even close to Trail Rated” — to its 20-in. chrome wheels to its dual-outlet central exhaust (for which Mopar builds a special, optional tow hitch to circumnavigate) to its big ol’ Hemi, trust us, it’s all good. And bad.
In outright speed, it flat spanked every vehicle here. Jeep has been bragging that the GC SRT8 runs to 60 mph in under 5.0 sec., wet or dry. They weren’t lying: In our testing it ripped to 60 in just 4.6 sec. and to the quarter mile in 13.2 at 104.1 mph. Those are sports-car numbers! Apparently this is what happens when you strap a raunchy-sounding 6.1-liter V-8 with 420 bhp and 420 lb.-ft. of torque to a 4800-lb. all-wheel-drive vehicle. Four-wheel powerslides come standard.
So what makes the GC SRT8 so good, so different, if you will, from a regular Grand Cherokee? Plain and simple, the gentlemen over at SRT (Street and Racing Technology). To put all that extra power to the road, they reengineered the all-wheel-drive system with a new transfer case, front axle and a sturdier rear with a Dana 44 differential. But the biggest difference is felt when you throw the GC SRT8 into a curve. In a typical Jeep, you’d be met with varying degrees of squish; with the SRT8, rock-solid handling. A 1.0-in.-lower ride height, Bilstein dampers, stiffer springs, larger anti-roll bars and 255/45R-20 front tires and 285/40R-20 rears transform the GC SRT8 from ho-hum SUV into sports-car competitor.
Not that it’s without faults. Road Test Editor Shaun Bailey complained that it “has little head room, tight interior space and hardly any ground clearance; there isn’t much utility to it.” Jonathan countered that “the Jeep’s seats are definitely the best of the bunch, the only ones with any kind of lateral support.” The Jeep would also benefit greatly in spirited driving if the 5-speed AutoStick performed rev-matching downshifts, like the Infiniti and Range Rover. And Marc reckoned the ride is “too firm for all but the most performance-oriented enthusiasts.”
Those are the ones this single-minded Jeep is aimed at; people who will go out and find its limits on a back road, and will find out that, yes, it can be provoked to oversteer on corner entry, and yes, again on corner exit as it spins all four tires. Maybe Marc summed up the GC SRT8 best when he said, “The Jeep is what the Cayenne should have been — focused 100 percent on performance; road performance, that is.”
Of note, the Jeep was the only one in our group that suffered from sporadic elevated engine temperatures. In truth, we were driving the heck out of it, like few sane people would. Still, a bit disconcerting.

Any vehicle getting to 60 in less than 5 seconds is pretty quick, but to add being an SUV over 4800 pounds is a pretty sweet accomplishment. ;) Looks good too...

Have you ever read anything other than OT? You know, you can learn stuff you didn't know about your Civic in the other sections of this site. Check em out sometime, guy.

Last time I checked this is OT, meaning i can post non Civic related material in this section. you also have the choice to read/post/ignore. Im not at the stage with my civic where im doing anything perfomance wise to it. Once I get around to it (within the next 3 months) I hope to have built the engine and started to piece together a turbo kit.
and even then I dont think I will be posting that much in the tech sections, more than likely if i have a question or concern I will PM one of the members who I think know what they are talking about.
what makes you think I dont check out other sections of this forum...and lets get back on topic and stop jacking my thread kthanks!

Its a VERY pointless vehicle, but same can be said about a 400whp Civic lol doesnt make me want to build my Civic any less ;)
I'll be in a Challenger, in the meantime im serious Marty go drive one :). Ive driven all the SRT vehicles, and this one was just as thrilling to drive as the Viper and the Crossfire SRT6. Completley poised on the race track, and it pulled some crazy hole shots. I fell in love with it.
If i hadnt driven one, Id be in a 300C SRT8.

See now I love the 300's, I am a old school lowrider guy though and I dont know why but it makes me think of the old 63 Lincolns with the suicide doors. Like I said i am weighing my options. I am waiting on the Camaro and Challenger to hit the stree, may go test a Mustang when the other two come out. If I dont like any of them enough to pay that much for them I might just go with a C5 Z06

I know a guy who just traded in his 04 SRT4 (like 537whp) for a 04 C5Z. 9k miles on it he paid 33k!!!! Had I known that I would have bought a C5Z06 over my Jeep.
Anyway here are some shots from this past April @ Limerock in CT @ the SRT Track Expeierence. Im going back next month and I can bring a guest, anyone in the New England area that might wanna go let me know. free buffet dinner and you get to hang out with Skip Barber drivers and pick their brains, and drive the SH T out of these cars.
The guy in the 300SRT in this pic was the pro instructor. Everyone got a chance to do a ride along with him and he literally made a guy piss himself. 100+mph drifts in a 4300lb car in the rain. He was NUTS.

yah I hope to have that Viper up to 135-140 on that main straight if it doesnt rain again. I got the Jeep up to 115 on that main straight in the rain, so i should have little problem hitting at least 130 in the Viper if its nice out.

lol thats me driving that Viper at Limerock raceway in CT. It was apart of the "SRT Track Experience" Basically anyone that bought an SRT product gets access to the SRT T.E. and you get to bring one guest and spend the day driving, racing, and basically pushing every car in the SRT Stable to its limits.
I am going again in Novemember, if anyone from the New England Area is intrested in going let me know Ill bring you as my guest. Other than that anyone can participate but the price is 300 dollars. They give you food and you get to talk to some pretty experienced drivers.

i'll see if I can grab my buddies digital video cam, either way Im going to be taking TONS more pics if its nice out. Because it rained last time, they only let us take the Viper on the autox course. If its nice out we will run them on the track.
The instuctor takes you out in the Viper before you can drive it, basically to scare the living sh t out of you so you dont push the car too much. They've had 2 vipers get wrecked so far.

Vipers are unbelievably easy to wreck. Their squarish footprint makes then VERY unstable at the limit. That said, the Viper, paricularly the new SRT-10 Coupe, is one of my favorite cars ever. They're just so damn sexy. Much more "wow factor" than the Z06.

That can be said more so for the previous Gen Vipers. But the Gen III with its new platform, upgraded brakes (60-0 in 97 ft) as well as a re tuned suspension makes the Viper a DREAM to drive on the track. Its limits are predictible and controled step outs are a lot more easy to modulate. The new Viper is easier to drive at its limits than the new C6Z06.
Every magazine and every racer claim the new Viper to be the best American made car to drive on a road course. The same cant be said for the previous generation, which was more focused in one thing...going faster and throwing balance out the window. This new one with all the new SRT engineers is a big step forward.
If you dont believe me, I invite you to come down to CT next month and find out for yourself ;)

I can't brag about seat time in either, but both articles in road and track and car and driver said the viper was easier to drive and more predictable at the limit (the new one, not the old scary ones) lol

Nice, but I still like the FX45 better, I like the styling elements of it as opposed to the SRT8's.
Sweet track day pics.
