ECU Tuning & Fuel Management - High Octane GasView Full Version : High Octane Gas TheMoogly 10-23-2006, 06:57 PM I put in some supreme in my car last time i filled up and my gas gauge is kinda weird.. sometimes it says it is empty and then half tank... whats up? Mr Mobsta Man 10-23-2006, 07:27 PM Why the hell did you buy supreme? lol sohc94 10-23-2006, 09:41 PM yea first off.... live it kinda like this.... high c/r higher octane.. 87, 89, 90 are all fine and are waht u need to be buying... i get 90... helps make sure theres no bad things in the fuel like water.... but ne ways... is it while u shift... cuz when im racing... the gas gauge does that... cuz it sendning so much fuell it take a scond to register it back.. so it goes down form like half a tank to a quarter... adn then it slowly rises back up... i dont undesrtand really wat ur problem is... but if supreme ****ed it up... dont use supreme... u only need to use a higher octane really if u hear a pinging.. Kedawei 10-24-2006, 06:33 AM There's no more gaurantee there will be water in the fuel with 90 than there is with 89 or 87. I'm assuming you mean 91 anyway? Get 87 Moog. There's no reason to run higher. bigmikew1 10-24-2006, 06:55 AM its not good to get supreme? i always get 93 and no problems. sohc94 10-24-2006, 09:52 AM well at my shell it has a 90.... it goes... 87 89 90 91 93 tbhey have 5 different selections... theres ****ing gangsta.. but i use 90 cuz i have a milled head... and my compression changed and it started pinging... so i put better gas in and bam vwalah fix. uk civhead 10-24-2006, 09:57 AM 99ron FTW;) soldout712 10-26-2006, 09:45 PM supreme wont make a difference, all it will do will cost u more money, go for a regular 87 octaine and u will be fine riceburner700 10-26-2006, 10:04 PM that only reason to really run premium is if you have some kind of forced induction. other than that you are just wasting your time Marty 10-26-2006, 11:55 PM not true, higher octane requires it also when a engine is designed a certain way it needs it also. Like a weaker engine that cant deal with to much knock TheMoogly 10-27-2006, 02:28 AM Yeah the gauge only gets nutty when I really step on the gas, but it only does it when I have high octane gas in it... Kedawei 10-27-2006, 03:29 AM ORIGINAL: riceburner700 that only reason to really run premium is if you have some kind of forced induction. other than that you are just wasting your time Higher compression will warrant higher octane. wantacivicwagon 10-27-2006, 03:58 PM I have a bone stock 93 LX that will ping on 87 most of the time below 4,000 rpm under load. If I run 89 it will not ping. Detonation will hurt power produced, MPG and will beat up the combustion chamber. My best MPG has been achived with 91 octane ...? Yes . . . you are better off running the lowest octane possible due to unburned deposits. In the summer especially I hear lots of cars, (Hondas included) & trucks pinging away in city traffic. Drivers completely clueless and oblivious about it. Some rigs have knock sensors that will retard the timing. Go figure? |
