any techies here?

anyways, here my problem: when i have my resolution on 800x600, the desktop shows correctly. when i set it at 1280x1024, the entire screen shifts left and has a black bar on the right. this never happened before. i tried using the controls on the monitor to adjust the position but even then, the screen will not right enough to get rid of the vertical black bar that's about 1.5in wide.

anyone have a solution?

LCD or CRT?

try using the auto adjust function on your monitor for it to locate itself

here is what you do:
set it back to 800x600
turn it off.
let sit for about 1 day.
then turn it on again.
while it warms up set the screen to: 1024x768
restart your pc.
when it starts up, change too desired screen side
and then restart pc again.
you shoud be good.

or it could be the fact that your moniters max res is 1024x768 and thus by setting it at 1280x1024 you are killing it...

ding ding. Thats what i was thinking. Your monitor can't handle that high of resolution. So stop forcing it to lol

Depends... A lot of monitors now support 1280x1024. Try above solutions 1st but I think it's the driver (90% of the time, LOL) Reinstall it and you should be fine.

also having the drivers for that monitor help too. My sun monitor (21") can do 1600 by 1200 but I run it at 1280 by 1024 and to make it work I also have to let the monitor take it's own refresh rate which means it's @ 100hz . If I had it set to 60hz it'd be all off set n tweeked out.

it also depends on the video card. if you have one. i can run 1280X1204 with no prob on a 19" LCD monitor. updating any display drivers can help fix the problem, like directx 9c. or your graphics card.

i have an LCD monitor and i used to be able to run it on 1280x1024 PERFECTLY. don't know why its not working any more. i'll probably just get a new one.
