Hey y'all,
Forgive me but I like the Honda Element! I have a ew questions for anyone who knows them. This is the best Hoda site I know of so...what can I say.The Element has seemingly the same hp as the CRV.What's up with that? The Element is huge by comparison.Yet,I hear they are FUN! I am in NY and about to move to South Florida.I just figured I might get an Element for crusing the beach and crusing in general.Anybody have any experience with them or any comments period?I was firstly thinking civic...but I don't know..just think the Element looks cool.It has a SLAMMIN sound system! I just wish it had a little more juice.
Please let fly with the comments!
Thanks

LOL!!!LOL!!HAAAA HA! Okay,okay no problem.That is funny,no doubt!
However, you guys could be of SOME help,no?After all it IS a Honda.Gimme a break here.I love Civics.I've just never had one.I've only had a '95 Accord.Loved it.Extremely reliable. How about some technical critisim on the "toaster" rather than general bashing??

Our realm of expertise generally consists of civics. You're asking Star Trek fans trivia on Star Wars and in some neighborhoods you can get shot up on the spot for pulling shadiness like that. I'm guessing the mighty Sacicons is who you seek for technical critique on your covetted Element. I'm not saying he will have some, but he'd be your best bet around here.

If you want an Element, buy a Scion xB. They're dead sexy.

i think the elements look funny, but if you like them, thats cool, i like Xbs, but i KNOW they look funny. and the Element has the same motor as the CRV, so it should be a fun little car. one of the import mags fixed one up as a project car. dont remember which one though. they did a custom turbo kit. they called it the Flying Brick. i thought that was pretty damn funny, but it turned out allright.

Thanks Dude,
When you say a "fun little car" because of the CRV engine,I don't get it.Isn't the CRV engine fairly small in and if itself, let alone that the Element is huge by comparison??Have you driven one?(I recognize that you might not want to say on here LOL:)You think the Element would be peppy enough say..on coming off an exit to highway?
Thanks!

actually the CRV has a little punch in it... what was it sacicons? I think like 156bhp

Thanks,
Actually it's 160hp for the CRV but I'm saying with the difference is size isn't the Element sluggish?I understand it's all about the particular performance of a given engine more than the vehicle size.In my non car tech mind though,I figure wy have the exact same motor in a considerably larger vehicle??There are more and more of them on the road though.Well,I'll have to go and test drive one. It's all in the driving at the end of the day anyway.

yeah, its the new K24 motor, at 160hp. and my quick research shows that the CRV weighs a little more than the Element.

Thanks Sacicons,
Weird though. With the blatant roominess of the Element,I figure the implication is that we are encouraged to put more stuff/passangers etc,yet this will weigh it down. Then where the does the extra needed hp come from to do the haulling.Honda isn't usually behind in their planning like that,ya know??

what are you smoking man? even the above-mentioned scion looks better imo, since it doesn't have all of that ugly un-painted plastic.

I think VW is really looking more for practicality. which the element is perfect for that.. you know if ur friends puke in it after a nite of fun, all you have to do is hose it out. Id prefer the element over the scion... who knows what those scions are going to do down the road.

If you're looking for practicality - go for CRV. It has a 4X4, gets good gas mileage and looks like a million bucks, compared to those ugly boxes.

Do you live in a warm climate?Would you consider a 4x4 in Florida for example or go for the 2X?I will be moving there soon.
Right now I have a finiky '96 Passat GLX.Does your Jetta have general trouble in cold weather?Apparently the downfall of VW's is electronics and cold weather compounds same.
Thoughts?

many of VW's ive seen have disaterous electrical problems. Whats up with that? My mother almost bought a passat but because 2 of her sisters passats went to hell she ended up getting a '04 Volvo S60.

Yeah at the end of the day it seems Japanese makes are the way to go.I don't think Hondas are as fun to drive as VW's though.Too bad.

the jetta is running fine. i did have misfires before, but it was because of the bad spark plugs. It runs well now, but a bit on a rich side. Luckily I had 0 electircal problems (knock on wood, but you wouldnt expect anything of that sort on a car with 40k miles), but I know for sure that VWs are notorious for having various electrical problems.
I didn't know you were moving to a warm state. I'm also curious why you're looking into those small mini SUVs. Is it the styling or space? They sure as hell dont have a whole lot of cargo space, or even passenger space for that matter. If you want something roomy - get an accord or camry, or some minivan. For cargo, look into some light trucks.

Well, amgst other things I am a massage therapist.I ahve this very large, about 32in x 37in table that I do work with.It totallyfits in the trunk of my Passat. However,in thinking Honda,i was just thinking of a change with RELIABILITY!! Hence I am curious about the Element. It looks cool to me.It has an awesome sound sysem complete with a stock sub woofer. To me that's cool.I still have not driven one or a CRV for that matter.Perhaps I won't want either. Some Maximas are smooth too.I don'tknow yet.Yes,I dig the new Accords too.Well even the not so new ones.
Yeah...I am kinda pissed with my VW.Many misfires.I have a good repair guy and he claims VW's are at their worstin the cold.Go figure,Germany is not my idea of a warm climate! Of the people I know with VW's nobody has the problems I do.They also have cars no more than..say 4 years old.I sort of conclude that if buying a pre owned VW,don't go back more than 2/3 years or 30k or so.Then unload it and upgrade!I'll probably drive to FL in my VW and deal with whatever afterwards.Who kows?Maybe the FL weather is all my car would need to run well. We'll see.

Im willing to bet iridium sprak plugs and new spark plug wires will fix that cold weather crap.

the only good thing about a element in my eyes is the fact that if you or your buddies are drunk you can puke in the car all you want then open the doors and hose it out the next morning

Absolutely NOT! Put that **** in a VW and see what happens. For NA VWs, copper plugs are the only ones to use - believe me, I know.

As for the "Iridium" stuff,I have a European repair guy who specializes in German cars. That coupled with the fact that I am automechanically challanged (LOL!!) I will leave it to the pros.
The puke factor would have been cool in m twenties.Darn it!Where were Elements in the mid eighties??Now if anything I'd consider a couple of large dogs for the ride in the "E!"

Lol! No, I dont have kids however I look forward to having some in the near future but I do have 3 stepbrothers that I haul around occasionally.
One is 5 the other 11 and the last 14. No, I dont know from 1st hand experience (only from my drunk buddies) but I have ridden in my stepfathers 95 Buick Roadmaster wagon and that tells you all about having kids in the car... lol the back seat practically has mushrooms growing out of the carpet :D
