I finally got my engine rebuilt and installed , it runs great. We had a little trouble with the catalytic converter, so have to replace. We took the 4 speed tranny out and installed 5 speed. All the linkage stayed the same and it works fine.
Thanks for all the help on this.

Yeah, the 91's (including CRX's, I believe) have different-sized clutch discs than the rest of the 4G's, but it'll still swap right in.

I used the same year tranny and engine, so didn't have to change anything else . I did have a bit of trouble ordering the proper axels, but on the wheel end, since there were a couple sizes for that car. The tranny end was no problem.

it depends i got mine for 150 but its for any d-series motor im pretty sure thats what you have but it should be around 50-300 you have to look hard. you can get a tranny on ebay but the shipping is whats gonna get to you. i suggest the junk yard they have warrenties you know. and they should cost about 130.

anyways kappa i know the clutch is different cause i tried it already plus i think the axles are different to cause of the 5spd like i the axles of the 5 spd is bigger then the 4 spd but the axles of the 4 spd should fit right in with the 5 spd tranny. im probably going to do it soon. if you find more info hit me up thanks tho bro

I got an engine and tranny on ebay for 143.00 and rebuilt it( my brother and I). Probably about 450.00 there with the rebuild kit and lots of time. I also ended up getting new axels 50 each, new distributor, alternator, clutch kit, starter, tires, hmm, plugs, and need to get a radiator still for it, the old on works, but I want a nice one for the engine. well all together probably close to 1000.00 but I did the work myself .This is the first time I have ever done this, using a manual helped tremendously. I learned a great deal too, now I feel comfortable with working on my own engine, where in the past I have always relied on my ex to do any motor repairs.

lil info on the crx/civic trannies.
88 tranny uses the odd ball 200mm 21 spline clutch
89 uses the 200mm 20 spline clutch(early model)
90-91 uses the 212mm 20 spline clutch
through all 4 years the casings share the same bellhousing with minor differences on the diff bearings internally(large/small bearing) use of the 90-91 transmissions in the 88-89 vehicles require the use of the 90-91 flywheel and clutch kit due to the different clutch sizes(200mm vs. 212mm)

I did have a bit of trouble ordering the proper axels, but on the wheel end, since there were a couple sizes for that car.
diferences being either hf/std which share the smaller hub side compared to the larger dx/si hub side(unsure of axle spline count)

Yea it was a great deal and close enough to drive and pick up. I got a distributor, starter, alt, manifold, etc. in the deal too, so I got spare parts. The clutch was bad in it, but so far the tranny is working great.
