The Lounge - cops + (you + tint) = pulled over

so i was on my way back from a clients site and i pull into my parking lot and got pulled over. i knew it was going to happen, he had been following me for a while. he gets out and says: "im pulling you over for your tint". illegal? he cant pull me over JUST for tint, right? i wasnt doing anything else wrong. but he said "im pulling you over for your tint".

anyways, he was like..are you going to get it taken off? i was like yeah. and hes like, then i will only give you a warning, and if i dont get it off within 5 days, and send back my warning card, then i will get a $112.50 fine.

F THEM! i wouldnt take my tint off if he watched me.

I got pulled over "just for tint" by a fn auxillary CT State police officer. A wanna-be or retired guy. Anyway, he picks like the most dangerous section of the interstate to pull me over with no shoulders. I had to pull over on the triangle of painted lines for an entrance ramp. Anyway, long story short, I got a $173.00 fine. I went to court and spoke to the ADA . I had a 100% clean driving record forever ( and still do). I told the ADA that I understood the law and why it exists BUT I told him that #1 the day i pulled over for speeding or other bs and #2 I don't have the window cranked down before the officer arrives then give me a ticket for TINT. I also expressed myself regarding the miles of blacked out windows on a chevy suburban for instance. They worry about what could be going on inside the vehicle when they are approaching. I understand that. But as long as the drivers window is legal, the officer would still have to pass by 10-12 feet of tinted glass to get to the clear pane. I told the ADA that when you require all Caravans and mini-vans and SUVs to remove their tint, I will too.

BTW, the tint stayed and I payed DICK!!!( My current ride has 5% and 8% all the way around.)

I have 20% all around and I got pulled over for speeding on the highway.. on top of doing almost 15mph over, I had a license with an out of date address (i moved like 1 yr prior to this, and never updated my license), and he brought up the tints.. He walked away and came back with a ticket for the tints and that was it.. Said, just plead guilty and pay the fine, basically, so I did.. and it was only $60. I was waiting for the fine to be in the 100-200 range, but the actual fine was only $25 with $35 surcharge fees.. I totally agree with you Smokem.. that's why I will refuse to take my tints off if I'm ever asked.

Here you wont pass inspection with tint......I get my car inspection done at a shop, because I dont have a cat converter, even they wont pass it with tint......So I can pollute like crazy, but no tint? I just use a razor to scrape it off, then re apply it the next day.

I was pulled over for speeding and the cop gave me a warning for my tint and exhaust. I guess in michigan you cant have any tint or a aftermarket exhaust. Well he told me to get rid of my exhaust and tint. Yea......its still on my car and that was a year and a half ago.

I was pulled over about a month ago for tint and all the cop said was for me to peel if off when I got home and if he sees me again with it them i'm going to get a fine. My tint is still on and I havn't seen him since. (5%)

I have yet to get pulled over for my tint but its just barely illegal like only 5% over the limit.

here no one gets pulled over for tint, i was with my buddy in his accord with %5 all around, he got picked up for speeding and the cop didnt even care about the tint, and he got pulled over in his old accord once for somthing dumb and again the cop didnt care (%20) its great, but oddly the window tint shops will do up to %20 but they will only do the windshield strip up to the legal length unless you straight up tell them that you dont care if its legal or not.

A cop can pull you over for anything thats illegal so yea you can get pulled over just for tint. Thats funny too about the tint shops, the shop that did mine would do the 5% (35% is darkest legal) but they wouldn't do anymore than legal size strip on the front.

But seriously though, we are allowd to have as dark as we want on the back 3 windows, and only 6" strip on the top of the windshield, anything on the front windows no matter how light is illegal

Yea you can. It's illegal. If something is illegal and they can see it then you can be pulled over.

Its true you can get pulled over for just tint. My buddy got pulled over for having tinton his camaro and that was it. Again michigan has ghey laws

im almost positive you can get pulled over for just tint. Here in California the law is any darkness in the back 3 (thank god because i have limo and a coupe so i couldnt roll them down) on the front driver and passenger window you can have 70% (which is perfectly clear, its only a UV protection) even though i have 5% all the way around...i have friends at a car shop they will do whatever i want because its all on me...im thinking of getting 50% tint on the windshield because its really really light, its the lightest possible but i think it would help hah

Same happened to me. It was like 9:00 at night and it was one of those warm nights so I had my windows rolled down and he made me roll them up.

if your scared of geting another ticket.... then pull your tint and TRY and tint it with lighter tint and hope you dont have a prick pull ya over!

hmm... that seems like an aweful lot of hassle for someone who isn't legally binded to protect.

Cops can pull you over for anything they want. At the least all they have to do is find you acting "supicious." But they can pretty much pull u over if they want.

i wonder what % the tint gun would read if i sprayed my windows wit the nightshade tint thats on my tail lights............the light shines through so good , im curious to kno if itd work

To be honest, im surprised that tint is allowed at all. The reason why its typically illegal is because its for the cops protection and or someone elses.

more privacy, harder for people to see in to see if theres anything worth stealing, it looks better, blocks out harmful UV rays, and annoying sunlight, I also heard it makes your car warmer when its cold, and blocks out heat when its hot....i dunno, these are necessarily my reasons, but just reasons in general

I personally think people like tint so they can hide their identity. You pull up to a nasty beast car with dark tint you don't know if its two punkass kids driving or some ax murdering looking dude. The bad ass factor definitely comes into play. You feel naked without the tint. Like everyone can see in. Look at some of the faces of the guys with really dark tint on this site. Whoa, menacing aren't they? NOT! So get in your super tinted ride and pretend, hide, protect, whatever you want to call it. The laws were enacted to protect law enforcement from being ambushed. The irony is, like I mentioned in an earlier post, check out a dodge caravan, chevy suburban, all the SUV's. So long as the drivers window and front pass windows are legal, you could board up the rest of the windows. Someone intent on causing harm could have a bead on a cop without any clue from one of those long, dark-tinted vehicles.

i was pulled over a few years back by a cop..he said that my "stereo was so loud, you could hear it several blocks away." so, i showed him that my system didnt even work...my amp was shot. i even let him fiddle around with things to see that it didnt work...he then said "roll your windows up"...when i asked him why, he told me that he suspected that my tint was illegal. i refused, and he asked for my information, which he took back to the car. i then called my dad, who happens to be friends with the chief in that district...the cop came back to my car all pissed off, and told me that the next time he sees my car, he would hit me for my stereo, my tint, my exhaust, and my tires being "dangerously low profile" (even though they are stock size)...i told him that was fine, i would just call his chief then too.

My windows are tinted dark because it helps with the heat here in the summer. It also keeps your car cooler while it bakes in the sun during the day when its 115 outside. It seems to help cool the car off also when you start it, turn on the AC and get moving.

Its about the heat and sun factor for me, but I do like my privacy.

I'd like to get my car tinted but I know alot of cops in MN are dicks about it and it'd kinda suck to have to roll down my windows as a cop passes by in the middle of winter. I yhink here its 35% on the front and anything else you want on the backs which doesn't make sense. There is a nearby town about 30 miles from here they have a couple of cops that do just window tinting tickets, it sucks but I have yet to be had by them, probably jynx myself becasue I am going there tonight to see a girl so yeah...

When I bought my car from my brother his windows were tinted.

He said he was written was ticket for something and he asked why he wasn't written for the tint, and the officer said it wasn't a moving violation or something like that. So ROLL DOWN your windows when pulled over!

i dont know what % my windows are but i've been pulled over for it twice. the second time though was in the middle of summer so my windows were down anyway. but he pulled me over "under the assumption" that i had tinted windows. i fought him over that in court, the judge pretty much just laughed and let me go.
