CivicSi45 02-25-2007, 11:06 PM yeah ive never heard of this before...and im 18, so im feelin pretty dumb right now ryank327 02-25-2007, 11:40 PM read up lol http://www.leemyles.com/articles/interference-engines-and-timing-belts.html CivicSi45 02-25-2007, 11:44 PM i didnt read all of that but it sounds kinda scary, i have a 00' si...interference?.... ryank327 02-25-2007, 11:49 PM Sure is. Its not really scary, only if you dont maintain your car. If your car has over a 100k miles and you dont know if the timing belt has been changed, get it changed. I just bought my 99 si about 6 months ago and it had timing belt changed at 86k miles, it now has 155k so I'm changing the timing belt, tensioner etc. Preventative maintenance is the key to the longevity of any car. CivicSi45 02-25-2007, 11:56 PM well i just bought a 00' si with 84....would it be a good idea? oh and how much does that cost? ryank327 02-26-2007, 12:02 AM I think the first timing belt change is reccomended at 105k, but being early wont hurt. If you take it to a garage youre usually looking at $350-$500 for parts and labor. But if you look around you can usually find Honda techs that will do it in their off time for much cheaper. Im buying an OEM timing belt/water pump kit for $125 from yoparts.com and I have a honda tech helping me out for $150. So I save a couple hundred and learn to do it myself next time. By the way when you change the timing belt you usually change the Water pump, tensioner and spring also, sincethey are all right there. CivicSi45 02-26-2007, 06:15 PM oh aight, cool cool, ill look into when i hit 95 just to be safe ;) |
