CTR power adder? what do you think?
Hey I just want to know what everyone on here would do here. My friend has been nagging me about what to do with his car. He has a 99SI with a B16 type R complete swap. (don't ask why he did it). He has been Driving it for a couple of months now and is getting used to the motor. It has an intake and a greddy exhaust. He says he wants to do a power adder, and wants a recomendation. He really wanted a JRSC but moss motorsports told him that the IAT may become an issue with the Type R in the summer. Fine then we could turbo it.....but we live in NY state, and the only standalone EMS that passes our inspection system (your car links to a state computer through the OBD port) is a K-PRO. That leaves tuning as the turbo issue. Now last N2O....this guy is gonna beat the snot out of this car, and would need a tanker full of N20 even if he was just running a 30 shot. So what do you all think. All Ideas are welcome especially someone with a modded type R motor. We NEED MORE POWER!!!!LOL
Been thinking about it. If there is no way to tune it you're screwed with that motor. Not what you wanna hear, I know, but there's just no way around it.
I have read of some laws that allow a vehicle to be emissions exempt if you register it as an alternative fuel vehicle (meaning you could run it off ethanol, which is a good fuel), which would make room for all kinds of modifications. But I have alsoread that there are laws (which may be federal) that prohibit anyone from running anything over E10 (10% ethanol/90% gasoline) in a motor that was not designed from the manufacturer as a "flex fuel vehicle." Isuspect that a vehicle running E10 could not be classified as an alternative fuel vehicle, as all enginesfollowing the late 1980s have been required to be designed to use E10 if necessary. This is all speculation though, I am no lawyer. You will have to contact the proper authorities to confirm any of this for your state, but this will be your only hope to run anything but a stock engine.
Honestly it may be easier just cut your losses, sell the B16B as it is not a great motor anyway, and start fresh with a K-series.

Um, how does the JDM swap even pass NYS inspection? Did you add all the necessary sensors, swap the oil pump, and get some sort of USDM OBD2 ECU??

There are not really too many people in this area that want or have a type R swap, let alone are using a power adder.I was just hoping that someone already delt with this or had something similar to give us some Ideas that that's it.
