Hi, the drain bolt for my transaxle on my manual transmissioned1998 civic dx is stripped.A Jiffy Lube guy overtightened months ago and I just noticed it when I went to change the oil. What is the best and cheapestway to fix this? Thanks

Get a pair of vicegrips and try to take it off, and then go to honda and get a new bolt. If you cant take it off yourself, just go get your oil changed by a shop and get them to take it off and put on a new bolt.....and dont go to jiffy lube...

Sorry about that. I didn't leave enough information. I meant the internal threads are stripped. The drain bolt can't tighten all the waydown into anything. Dang air wrench overtorqued it most likely. Any ideas for this? Thanks

You could get it re-threaded maybe. I'm not sure tho

y? its easy and wont hurt anything. just try not to get a rediculas amount of shavings in there and ur fine. its just a drain bolt...if u take the car to a shop, they'll prolly end up tapping it too.

A tapis pretty easy to use, but I'd take actions to make Jiffy Screwup pay for a new case. Even after tapping, there won't be as much material there for showroom-good threads. You'd need to upsize the plug bolt for that.
Anytime you have somebody touch your car, check their work right after. Even simple things like an oilchange can be screwed up by mongoloids.

if you DO tap it, spread some grease in the hollow parts of the tap. Go slow (3/4 turn in, back it out 1/4 turn. Repeat) if you do this it WILL take a while, but between the grease in teh hollows and backing it out a little each time the chips will mostly stay out of the trans. Hope you manage to get it taken care of
