Audio/Visual & Electronics - Rear speaker suggestion
I need some new rear speakers in my 97 EX Sedan.
I listened to a pair of MTX speakers at the store and they sounded good.
Anybody have any experience with these. I've never heard of them.
I listen to a lot of classic rock.
Here is a link to the speakers: http://www.americantv.com/itemDetail.do?itemCd=079800504&linkBack=L2l0ZW1MaX N0LmRvP2NhdENkPTMwMzk%3D

From my experiences... When I bought my car I had MTX components in the front and 4-12" subs in the trunk.. they sounded pretty good. or so i thought. then i decided to upgrade, and bought Alpine type-R speakers. Components in the front and 6x9's in the back. I couldn't believe the difference. they wern't even amped and they sounded way better. After i amped them and put different subs in it was incredible. Pioneer makes some good speakers as well. My friend ran all pioneer speakers in his accord and they were close to my alpines. I dono if it was just my luck or what, but I don't recommend getting MTX speakers, or subs for that matter.
with that said.. if anyone wants my MTX stuff i'd be happy to sell it?

Momo-Polk audio... JL audio makes a banging component set that will work great without being ampd, inifinity kappa series sound great, and the alpine units noted above do sound great. I have had every speaker immagineable in my car and liked the Polk audio DB series for a mid priced AMAZING sound speaker set. JL follows with a close second with the TR series.
I agree MTX = waste of money.
Fosgate = trade it to bum for beer.
OK, how about these:

This store fairly is close to me and they install. I would like to get some this weekend.
I currently have a pioneer in dash CD player with no amps. This is the model:

They are GREAT. I have been installing car audio, and home audio for years and years somewhere over 12 years I think. LOL Trust me, they are not an off brand. That are not the speakers you would want if you just wanted them to be loud. They will get loud as hell, but they are more precise.
Kicker is to a Shotgun as Clarion is to a Sniper Rifle.
Get my point? I have my system set up for sound quality. You can turn mine up to max and there is no distortion. Dont get me wrong mine will still make your clothes move. LOL But its clear and sounds perfect.

I have some old ass Polk audio splits up front and some newer Fosgate's in the rear and the old ass Polk audio's sound ten times better. Even though they are a smaller size and max wattage they can take more abuse without crackling.
The main thing with me is my amp is kinda old and i cant find specs for it so i dont knwo what wattage im running but i got the gains all the way up in the front and only 75% in the rears because of distortion.

You really need to read up how to set gain. Its not a volume control. There is a right way to set it and a wrong way to set it.
Look for the GAIN section on THIS (http://www.bcae1.com/)site. It will help your system last, and sound great. Gain is number 63 on the list. Good luck.

ive got pioneer tweeters, alpine door speakers and alpine speakers in back, and 3 mtx subs instead of a back seat, sounds real good so i would stick with those brands depending what speakers your getting.
OK, I ended up getting the Alpine Type R 6x9s.
When I was listening at the store I narrowed it down to the Alpine Type S, Type R, and Polk. I then narrowed it down to the Alpine Type S & the Polk.
I finally decided that the Polk sounded best but then the guy at the store had me do a blind test. He switched between the speakers without me knowing which ones were playing.
After several minutes of blind testing I ended up choosing the Alpine Type R.
They sound great in my car. Thanks for all the suggestions.

I think mtx would be good, if you wanted you could have a look at JBL grand touring series as well, thats what I use and they are awsome, excellent high and mid, but mtx is nice too.
