well, the civic is getting alot of changes in the next few weeks. i have a leather racing wheel, new tasteful muffler (if you want to buy the dnx carbon canister thats on now let me know), a flip out touch screen monitor headunit, and a ractive shift boot plate on the way as we speak. im also picking up a turbo kit this sunday. in the coming weeks im buying a lip kit (front, side and rear), racing seats, and a 6 point roll cage. ill start posting pics once the transformation begins

eh, i've been around man. just busy as all hell with constant school and work. and i saved so much money because my new job with ford gives me a check over $300 every week.

btw, does anyone think once i start dumping everything into the car i should start a projects thread for it?

Please dont do the rollcage. Or if you do, wear a helmet everytime you drive it. Your head was not made to smack into a rollcage without a helmet on.

He's boosting the car, I think he's got a pretty well laid plan ;)

Give me good reasons why he shouldn't run a good WELD IN cage, and I'll take what you just said seriously

I think rollcages are ugly, but can someone explain the point, I mean if it's not a car such as a professional racer drives, what is the point ofa rollcage? just curious, thanks!

There's many reasons for getting a cage...

1. Have you ever felt your car flexing? Well that'll be happening way less with a cage
2. If you're running certain times or in certain competition you have to have a cage or your car won't be allowed to run
3. Have you ever rolled a car? I'd rather be in a caged civic than in an uncaged one..

haha, cmon man. i wrote the DIY article on how to paint. you think im not going to match them?

and thanks for coming to my defense tony. the cage is really the last thing on my list for when theres not much left to spend money on. and the cage i was looking at getting is dd safe due to the front bars being very low, not at the headliner level. so worst case scenario i bump my elbow now and then. even thats unlikely. i just want one to stiffen up the chassis more and i also want to start doing some club autox events next summer.

ill fire up a project thread once the parts start flowing in. ill probably start a thread to buy all my old parts as well, ill give good deals. keep leaving ideas and suggestions!

i'd suggest just a bolt in roll bar from like Autopower. their "race" roll bar series is a 4 bolt on point with harness mount tube. pretty cheap, easy to install, and wont hurt u in an accident. i may be getting one of theirs possibly next year. just dont see the need for a full like 6-8 point cage..

Mossy
09-20-2007, 10:34 AM
there really is no justifiable need for one. i a just trying to build a completely race ready car that i can also use as a dd. also i just think cages are badass

*UPDATE* 9/26/07

The turbo install as just begun. We got the intercooler mounted and all of the ic piping in place. The turbo itself wont be installed until next week because we are waiting for the tuned ECU and oil line kit to get here. Also the turbo manifold and heat shield are getting some cosmetic stuff done before we bolt everything up.
http://xs319.xs.to/xs319/07393/intercooler2.JPG

Also this week a few changed were made to the interior. The Jenson touch-screen head unit was installed, the steering wheel was installed, and the Ractive **** boot and billet plate (not shown) were installed. The plate matches the floor mats really well. Also the black guage is a tinted boost guage, which is obviously not yet function. More likely than not all of the guages will be replaced with the cobalt series.

http://xs119.xs.to/xs119/07393/newcivicinterior.JPG

Heres a pic too of the muffler i am having installed today to replaced the big carbon canister.
http://xs119.xs.to/xs119/07393/muffler.jpg

In the mail on its way right now includes:

-Front and Rear mugen lips
-M3 style trunk lip spoiler
-Si taillights with the white part smoked out
-8000k HID kit
-Stealthmode turbo oil lines
-Chipped ECU
-ECU harness

I'll keep updating as quick as things keep coming in.

steve, this car has claimed enough blood and sweat from me over the years to safely say that i am building my own car. the turbo install (minus the dyno tuning), the stereo, all the painting and body work, will be done by yours truely. just as everything done to the car before that was done by me. so dont get ahead of yourself. i bust ass at work every day so i can build this car, im not some kid throwing his parents money at the car having everything be done in a shop

thanks for the compliment on the interior though :)

*UPDATE* 10/2/07

today i got my new smoked out Si tails in, and they are looking fine as hell. im going to replace the euros with them tonight if the damn rain lets up. my chipped ecu and conversion harness have arrived, now im just waiting to hear back from stealthmode about what feed line i need and then i'll be getting an apointment at DB Performance to get the bitch tuned. btw, for anyone in minnesota DB Performance is the best in the state. i would highly recommend going there for any performance needs. im still waiting on the front and rear lips to get here but they should come tomorrow. also, i ordered carbon fiber front and rear strut bars. so theres not also a blue aluminum tenzo r front strut bar up for sale. like i said, once all is said and done i'll make a for sale thread because i'll have a TON of aftermarket parts to get rid of. i'll get some pics up as soon as i can, and i'll be taking a bunch of pictures of the turbo install. if anyone wants pictures of anything else i'll be doing for reference let me know. holla.

oh, and thanks to tony for crushing my self esteem with this picture

Mossy
10-06-2007, 05:04 AM
well that picture of the black car with yellow headlights is NOT my car, and tony was making fun of me for being a ricer. the things about using the intercoler pre-supercharger is that it realy does block alot of air flow, therefore it would be making your charger work harder and perform less. so good idea? most likely not. interesting idea though, never though about that. way to think outside the box ;)

and didder, you probably have seen me on university and porkies and not even realized it. and i think i know your two buddies. the 350z is the black one with blue led side markers right? my buddy blew his transmission racing him. still won though :D. so if you know scott (dark red and grey early model stang), i'm usually tagging along with him. once my car is finished though i'll be parking it at the lot everuone dips too after porkys shuts down. i wont be as embarrassed after im boosted to roll up, even though nates hatch will still dominate me haha. so if you ever spot my car around or even me, dont be a stranger

nate = URV8SUX???? cuz i worship that damn car every day im there i also love that white sti, he was running hiyos last time i seen him cruising lol

my buddy = blue 350z with 20" hypnotic rims there crome and blue, and blue sidemarkers, he got the idea from the black z

lol, i dipped with all them once with my civic, was HILARIOUS trying to keep up, redlined in freakin 3rd gear for like 20 minutes all the way to 35e and 110... hopefully i can get mine done before the freeze hits so we can do a cruise and show some v8's what its really about [8D]

look for my buddies chevelle there tonight on saturday, hes looking for the guys that trailer in there cars and do pro street races, its black... tell him you know brad

hes 5'10 black hair and twig skinny with tool tatoos all over his arms lol... cant miss him his name is "stink"

Lol thats not correct at all, MY 8000k HID's (Ozniums, Flowlighting) they are great in any weather, can see great in fog or rain. I was on the highway last week and I couldn't see **** with my highbeams, the HID's showed way further and way clearer.
I get flashed alot for them but they are totally worth it for the extra vision.

didder, yes nate compher/junior mint. i actually knew him from skating before i even knew he was into racing. and yea, we forsure need to do a cruise if we booth get the boost done in time, even though its already getting cold as ****. possibly a photo shoot together in front of the seward graffiti wall? let me know if you're rolling to university tomorrow. i live almost next to university by the u of m so we could meet up.

anyway, sorry i haven't updated this bugger in a while. ive just been busy with school and work. ive been doing little things on the car to keep myself busy until i have a set of injectors, its all i have left for the turbo. i got a new shift knob on, made a carbon fiber plate for my engine start button, and painted and mounted the trunk lip spoiler. i painted the spoiler in like 45 minutes, so its not my typical quality of work but at least its colormatched. just have to hit it with some 2000grit paper and rubbing compound. hopefully the injectors will come by next week so i can get these big things poppin. until then i'll take some pictures over the weekend to put up

didder
10-13-2007, 01:27 PM
that nate kid, whats in it? b18? and i hear it has like 650 to the wheels, is that true? thats way to much power in a 2000 pound car lol.

and about doing a shoot, no thx right now, need body work, BAD, dropped 6k into motor / suspension and my car looks like bawls, need to get it painted put some new heads, tails, cf hood, lips etc... then well shoot, i cant have your car making me look like trailer trash lol

btw, how is your car coming along turbo wise?

Mossy
10-15-2007, 10:50 AM
its official, the turbo install is going down this weekend!!! i've got a four day weekend this week so im having a set of injectors overnighted so we can begin the install on thursday. i've been doing a bunch of crap in the interior to keep me busy while im waiting to do the turbo. i'll post pics of the product of my boredom

Mossy
10-22-2007, 11:17 AM
IT'S DONE! well, for the most part. and no thanks to tony who left his phone at the bar. the turbo setup is in, oiled, and running like a dream with just the tiniest oil leak, but otherwise perfect. however, i still have to connect the vaccum lines and figure out how to do the wiring for the 450cc injectors. but as im staying completely out of boost for now, neither are necessary until i put it under boost and have it tuned. no it is not the prettiest setup by any means (though my friend did paint the manifold without telling me, i guess thats now "pretty"), it pushes air and gets the job done. it suffered a couple casualties though while putting this kit on. the A/C and power steering are no more. neither of which i mind driving without. anyway, here are the pics...

Just got her up in the air and ready

http://xs220.xs.to/xs220/07431/turbo1.JPG

Now the A/C compressor and condenser were removed (power steering as well later on)

http://xs120.xs.to/xs120/07431/turbo2.JPG

Fuel for the job

http://xs120.xs.to/xs120/07431/turbo3.JPG

The turbo bolted up

http://xs220.xs.to/xs220/07431/turbo4.JPG

Plumbed and with the air intake filter we made (notice the missing power steering pump)

http://xs220.xs.to/xs220/07431/turbo.JPG

My new carbon strut bar (real carbon tubing, not a print stick over aluminum)

http://xs120.xs.to/xs120/07431/turbo6.JPG

up next im gutting out the trunk so the only things left in there will be the rear carbon strut bar and a matching spare 17" in the wheel well. il take pictures with my good new camera of all the stuff ive been doing in the interior and otherwise. also i will use the new camera for when its on the dyno. still waiting on my lips kit though, they never came. stay tuned!

WhiteRabbit1021
10-28-2007, 01:14 AM
Your manifold has a penis. Is that connected to something?

Mossy
10-31-2007, 06:51 PM
flip, its cast but dont worry about painting it. my buddy painted it with the highest temp sutff that he found and its already turned to black after a week and a half of driving. and as for my manifolds penis, that would be the 02 sensor. and yes...its connected to something.

anywho, this baby is finally pulling together. i redid the the intake on the turbo so that there is now a full size mushroom filter on it. all thats left is wiring up and installing the injectors. i've got an appointment to have my car up on the dyno getting tuned at noon on monday. i'll take many pics of it, as well at the outcome dyno sheet. ive got a bunch of other pictures too but i seem to have misplaced my brand new digital camera already. probably lost in the abyss of my room. will post up pics as soon as i can and will let everyone know whether or not my car explodes on monday [:@]. peace

ladies and gentleman, the car is officially boosted.....well, sorta. as it turns out, my fuel system is plagued with problems. the fuel pump is running at full cycle at only 3psi when it shouldnt be until 15psi and the injectors are possibly bad or wired incorrectly. the result is that it barely starts, the fuel map is way richer than it should be for a conservative tune, and the engine is detonating after 5500rpm. after 4 and a half hours of tweaking on the dyno, it was deemed drivable. we were able to coax 167.7hp out of it at 6psi. you can check out the dyno video HERE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCOEbhhvu8M). so after spending all this time and money, ive basically realized that the turbo project is only half done. all other aspects on this car are getting put on hold until i get brand new, not used, injectors, walboro 255lph fuel pump, switch from crome to hondata, and i might splurge for the vitara pistons and eagle rods. once thats out of the way the cars estimated to put out close to 250hp reliably. in other news, my front and rear mugen lips are FINALLY on their way. expect them to be painted and on the car by the 17th. i'll keep updating with the fuel system rebuild. for now, here are some pics of the car. enjoy.

Just get the fuel system and ecu mods for now. Then try tuning for 175whp. Internal work gets expensive very quick.

Mossy
11-08-2007, 12:26 PM
yea, its the one thing i dont have the tools for and 5 hours of shop labor at $85/hour isnt too appealing. maybe i'll just do internals over the winter when i save up some money for it. then she'll be all nice and ready for spring.

Pete
11-08-2007, 01:54 PM
I wouldnt even bother with the internals just yet. Get the fuel system going and add some ARP Headstuds.....youll make 200whp and you will be very happy with that. 200whp in your car will keep you ahead of most of whats on the road.

well, i feel like the biggest dumbass in the world. when we weredynoing the car, he was giving it alot of gas on the fuel map but the engine was barely getting any fuel and detonating. therefore something had to be blocking fuel. well my friend at work pointed out to me that maybe the fuel filter is clogged. i realized that it hadn't been changed since i bought the car. so i went and put one on tonight, and now the engine is running smoother than it was stock. now i have to go get retuned to that im not using up more fuel than i need to be. and now the the engine is finally being fed, i find it really hard to be slow even when im barely touching the gas pedal. hooray boost!

I just read your whole post. Very nice job on everything. After getting the fuel worked out and a re-tune you should get video of you on the streets ripping it. Nice car and looks good man.

alright, news update. after about 2 weeks of the car running in boost i've decided that this setup just doesnt have enough, well, balls for me. S#!T'S GOTTA GO! the new setup will include the following: today im buying a t3/t4 70 trim turbo and new RC 550cc injectors from vibrant racing, next week im buying a new manifold and downpipe along with a new Tial external wastegate, week after that a wideband gauge and catch can, then finishing off with a switch to hondata from crome and a new tune. so it should be about a month until this new kit is all set to go, unless i can sell my current setup sooner so im not paying only with paychecks. if you are looking for a basic turbo setup that runs fine and already fits great, PM me.

in oher news, my lips finally arrived. its the first time i've been happy that someone screwed up my order. the front lip that came is urethane instead of abs plastic like both of them were supposed to be. im just waiting on paint to get here and then they will be on the car, unless its snows before then.

ok, the walbro 255lph fuel pump and RC 550cc injectors are on their way so at the very least my engine will stop detonating. im going to try and get the lips painted this week, but i never can seem to stay on schedule so we'll see

SoCal, im boosting a y8. it really depends on what your setup is and the tune that is done with it as there are many variables, but you can expect anywhere from 150hp-215hp with a fairly standard setupand stock internals.

So anyway, over thanksgiving my mom's neighbor's 18 year old nephew decided to give me a present in the form of a smashed in drivers side door. he backed into it and didnt even notice. So i talked with his mom and she doesnt want it on his record and therefore doesnt want to deal with insurance. she told me to go get a repair estimate and then she would just write me a check for it. i went over to the honda dealership and the estimate for a basketball sized dent in my door was, *ahem*.....$1754! i found the replacement sheet metal door skin online for $164 and a friend in the body shop at work can paint it and put it on for me for $350. So basically once the door is repaired im going to have a sh!t ton of money left over to finish this project. Also, its getting cold as hell and snow has been on the ground twice so the complete turbo rebuild and installing the lip kit may be on hold for a couple months. the project is not haulting however, my 550cc RC injectors and walbro 255lph fuel pump arrived yesterday and i'm ordering a new intake manifold, high flow fuel rail, and a big brake kit sometime between now and tuesday. i'll post pics of the damage and little things ive gotten done tomorrow. peace.

mossy thats not a bad deal. but it sucks that you have to ride around town with a huge ass dent in your car *cough* white trash *cough*. thats cool that you will have extra money left over. good luck with the upcoming projects

yea, it sucks but works out in my favor. that dent is essentially going to pay for racing seats, a roll cage, and my t3/t4 turbo. i just have to deal with being a tool for a while and drive around a really nice car with a big dent in the side. it annoys the hell out of me because im so obsessive compulsive with the car. if there is just the slightest blemish in the paint i freak out.

alright, snow should be clearing up in the next couple weeks and then this project will resume. first up on the to do list is big brakes in the front with ebc pads, then putting in my new fuel pump and injectors and hopping back on the dyno for a retune, racing seats with rear 6 point cage/harness bar, carbon csl trunk, and turbo system overhaul if time permits. i also have the hundreds of dollars worth of other parts i have sitting in my rrom waiting to get put in. also, there may be a big suprise in the build but i wont know for a few weeks yet. progress will be updated once the snow melts.

big surprise, *cough* t3/t4???? why waste $500 on a cf trunk? you could use that somewhere else so much cooler! like a traction control bars, and and and an actual clutch that can handle boost! lol

and man, i cant get rid of my girl, i do, then i come back, then i do, and i come back, i hate my life! if i could only get rid of her then i could spend time with my real baby, and help you out... good luck though!

race ya to re-tune??
