Mechanical Problems & Technical Chat - 95 civic coupe problem

hi there i just purchased my civic 1995 n reg coupe its the standard 2 door one NOT LSI model.

just wondering my heater slider knob is snapped off does anyone know how to replace the panel as i was thinkign of getting one from the breakers for 10 to 15 quid, any guides etc wud be of great help its the non ac model if it helps.

is it a pain to change it must be a common fault as the slider is quite stiff and noticed a few in the breakers already snapped off i dont think you can prieze it off with a flat headed screwdriver from the outside as it damages it, because i tried that in the breakers lol

Panel is pretty easy to change but you must remove the radio first and reach up thru the radio opening to unscrew the panel. To get the radio out you first remove the trim piece that covers around radio and heater control panel. The ashtray and lighter come out with that part. It has 4 screws, 2 on each side and one of the screws is behind the glove box, you have to open the glove box to reach it. (That might be slightly different on a UK right side driver model). Then take out the screws beside the radio, and if it is a stock radio loosen the bolts at the bottom back of the radio.

Once you have the panel loose, the only other trick is to undo the mechanical cable that is driven by the temperature slider. It is fairly obvious how to do that. If your new panel comes with the cable already attached, you can undo it at the other end where it connects to the lever mechanism on the bottom of the heater box.

There is no difference between the A/C and non A/C other than the non has a plastic cover over the A/C button which can be pried off after installing the A/C. If your panel has the A.C button uncovered on it it just won't do anything when you press it of course.
