Street n Strip - alright, finally semi officially tested it...

Okay I was just counting in my head, but pretty accurately I think. However, as no suprise to me, it took my nearly stock D16Z6 in my EX coupe 9 seconds to accelerate from 0-60. That's pretty sad. Who knows what the 1/4 mile time was. I wasn't looking at the odometer or anything, I can't multitask THAT well while accelerating to 100MPH. But yeah, there's this really really long road in North Fort Lewis (Washington State) and it's all just empty government land around it, all flat, a few trees, but there's a barbed wire fence along the road to kinda keep deer off of it. So, I felt pretty safe to use it as a drag strip. (there's nowhere for cops to park on it, and a big curve at each end of the probably mile and a half long straight). But that VTEC sounds AWESOME once it hits in like third or fourth gear when it more slowly crosses that line and there's more wind resistance it has to fight past. WOW! I'm sure it would be much better with a DOHC VTEC.

Anyway, I have basically just intake, headers, and a somewhat better flowing exhaust. I still need to take the cat off and get a replacement pipe so I can throw the cat back on there for emissions, as well as I still need my piping redone to be higher flowing. I'm saving up for a B16 with an LSD too, don't think I can afford a GSR...

What do you guys think? What kind of times do you get with a fairly stock B16 (exhaust/cold air intake) Thanks!

In your head? Whatever you have to do I guess, but you are probably pretty close. Stock 5th gen EX's are around 8.5 0-60 and 16.5 in the 1/4 mile. I have a stock 94 EX and I got a G-Tech to fool around with mine; I clocked in @ 16.9 with a trunk full of speaker box and a full tank of gas. Sacicons said he ran a 15.4 with his B16 and I don't think he had many mods on it.

yeah, It had an AEM CAI, and thats about it for power mods. but i had huge traction problems. i could hear the tires chirping (not spinning, just a steady chirpchirpchirpchirp) the whole way down, even through 3rd gear. I had a secondhand 6-puck clutch, and it grabbed so hard that the tires couldnt hook up after shifts. so i figure at least .1-.3 was wasted on spinning tires.

Ah yeah that would make a difference. Thanks you guys for your help! But, how far do you think $1000 of engine mods would take a B16? Once I get it, I want to gradually build it up. I know that the B16 is best to be kept an NA engine, so how much HP do you think I could get out of it? Or could I get a thicker head gasket, turbo cams, rods, etc. and run some boost? Which would be the best way to go with this? I know that the turbo route would be a lot more $$$ but I thought it would be something to look into for future reference.

I think for the money a b16 w/lsd would be better then a gsr w/o

i wouldnt exactly say that. The engine u wanna keep N/A would be the B18C5.....due to its high compression. Ask any B16.......they love being turboed. If u are planning on doing a swap and THEN tossing 1,000 into the b16........i would just boost the D16. Just beef up the internals and boost it. It will give u loads of power and cost ya less than the swap.
