me and my buddy was coming from moroso and his civic took a crap on us. we were just heading home and the car started up fine and we were driving than 5 min later car just got weak and shut on since his car was stick and we were still rolling he tried starting it but no luck we heard this whoshing whosing sound and the car wont crank. basically we had to park car i call my girl to get us went home got in my civic went to discount and got new spark plugs and the igntion coil change those and no luck. it sound like a fan noise when we try to start the car.

if it was the started the starter wouldnt cause the car to loose power and shut off. battery is fully charged and has power. so what else couild it be. we checkthe fuel pump fuse, alternator fuse and starter fuse there all good.

what mods are on it, year, etc?
Give us a better idea of what we're trying to figure out

mods on his car is the usual I/H/E car has a y8 head. but it ran fine and stuff. like i said we went threw and on our way back the car seem to make a quick noise ( couldnt really hear it due to the music it wasnt loud since he has no sound sysem but we still couldnt hear it or at least i couldnt ) than it just lost power and shut off but since we were still rolling he tried starting it than we heard that whinning, bluffering noise and since we were slowing down to a stop i told him to pull over becasue i didnt want the car to come to a stop in the steeet.

we have fuel since i pulled the fuel filter and tried starting the car and fuel just poured out under pressure. spark im not too sure alll spark plugs are good, wires are good and we went to advance auto parts and he pick up a new igntion coil and change that. btu the car still make that noise and just wont start.

Check whether the timing belt snapped.

You'll need to remove the valve cover and then the upper timing belt cover to see the belt.

Alternatively, remove the distributor cap and have your buddy crank the engine to see whether the rotor spins.

If the belt is fine, listen for the priming of the fuel pump when you turn the ignition key to On but don't crank the engine. Also test for spark at each of the plugs.

timing belt is fine

So does the distributor shaft rotate when you turn the starter on? If it doesn't, does the crankshaft of the engine rotate? The big pulley that drives the alternator, etc. is connected to the crankshaft.

car not sparking i put a spark plug in the spark plug wire while he turned the keys and hold it againt the valver cover and only #3 had a very very faint spark, everything else nothing... so we had already changed the ignition coil so now he went to advance auto parts today again and we ordered the ignition module. it should arrive in the morning. butthan he will be on his own i have school in the morning and practie afterschool so hopefully its that. if anyone on here is selling any distributor please let me know.

everything in the head rotates. even the valves when he turns the key. cant be the alternator sicne there was a jumper cable fromhiscar to my car on the whole time so even if it was that , the car would still start but than dies after like 30sec or so.

Yeah, a bad ICM is a reasonable guess, although some electrical troubleshooting could confirm your idea.

ran a compression test and it turns out car isnt getting no compression. so i guess its the piston rings which mean time for a new engine or he can suffer throught the hard ship and pull the engine apart just to change the rings. but wouldnt it be smarter just to change the whole engine. if thats the case

Sudden loss of compression probably means the timing belt has skipped teeth. This may have caused the valves to crash, or maybe you were lucky and it will run again once properly timed. Take the upper timing cover off and check the cam timing by setting the crank to TDC and see if the marks on the cam sprocket line up. If the belt has skipped I would put a NEW timing belt on before trying to run the engine again.

Rings don't just go out suddenly.

Wow that good to hear that they dont go out suddently. but other than timing what can cause a sudden compression? becasue when i took all spark plugs out the car began to turn over faster which mean it getting spark and i knwo there fuel becasue i pulled the fuel filter and fuel poured out. so now its all about compression.

also one time when i tried to start the car smoke was coming out of the intake manifold. and now inside the manifold its kinda dirty

You said that you were not getting spark, and then you said that you checked compression, if you have been trying to start the engine with no spark, fuel has washed the cylinder walls free of oil, and you will have low compression.

Check the problem solved forum for no start problems, it's near the top of the list. The main relay on all honda products has bad solder joints, that need to be reheated. this will solve most no start conditions, when the relay goes bad, you will have power, the car will crank, but you will have no spark in most cases. reheating these connections will in general solve the problem

found problem. funny thing car wont start because the car engine is turning backwards instead of forward. when u put u finger in the sprak plug whole its suppose to spit it back out not suck it back in lol. problem was car jump timing due to the cam nut being loose because when i was checking the timing i was surprise to find the nut loose and car jump timing and bend some valves. how much at this point i dont know

Civic engines all turn counterclockwise looking at the accessory pulley on the front of the crankshaft. They are opposite of most cars.

Get the cam back in time and everything bolted down securely then just try to start it again, or if you want to be more scientific, use a compression tester to make sure the valves are all OK.
