Mechanical Problems & Technical Chat - Acts like water in the gas, but not.

For the last three months my 90 civic LX has acted like it has water in the gas. I know it's not water, but the feeling is the same as a slug of water going through an engine. At first it was just once in a while, but it is now happening all the time and it is starting to just die unexpectedly.

I have no trouble codes showing. I am new to honda and do not know their quirks. the plugs are new, the wires older,
and the timing has not been checked in a while.

I did the master relay fix for random no start conditions, about two years ago. Is it possible that this is a symptom of a bad solder joint in the relay?

Thank You for your input.

Might be a clogged fuel filter or a faulty fuel pump.

Alternatively, the coil or igniter unit in the distributor is intermittently failing.

Also, here's how to set the ignition timing:

If it gets worse the harder you step on the gas, seriously consider new wires. Don't use aftermarket wires; a lot of crappy ones out there.
