Street n Strip - Slayed a crappy firebird this morning...

That thing had to have been running on its last leg. It was an automatic, and everytime it shifted I gained a car length on him. He definitely had me off the line, but when we hit second i caught up even, then third i was ****ing gone.. I'm usually not really into street racing, but at 6:30 in the morning with no one around, no cross streets, and an Idiot with a POS revving his engine...why the hell not?

EDIT, I think it was an '87, maybe '88...

i know what thats like...i dont like street racing but i cant get picked on all the time by cars that think they are faster than mine...but you gotta remember those cars are heavy as hell

those (not all) trans-ams are crap. my bro used to work with a guy who had one, and when he was driving, he came up on the guy (bro was in his si with bolt-ons) and they jumped from a light and the si just walked away. not even close. even the TA guy couldnt believe it. he was pissed. we all made fun of him relentlessly. then he tried to say that the new technology isnt fair to put up against the old technology. we just told him that the b16 was introduced within a year or 2 of his TA. that shut him up.;)

hwo fast of an Si are we talking sacicons?

well, the best time we ever got out of it at the track was a 14.2, but that was just on a 40 shot, stock everything else. then we put a 6-puck clutch and a bunch of bolt-ons on it, and it couldnt hook up at the track, but it was way faster on the street. id say about 170 (off the bottle) at the wheels, with a bunch of lightening and suspension work. did very well at autocross though.

that makes me laugh so bad, okay firebird is the v-6 model, total pieces of crap as is the T/A but the part that makes me laugh is the guy pullin up next to you revvin his engine, its soo funny because here in arizona when i was in my 5.0 i cant count all the times some nub in his civic would pull up next to me revvin his engine, i never understood the thought process that took place in their minds, actually trying to take my mustang, just just for kicks id line-lock and roast the tires before leaving him to choke in it! aww the memories

but yeah i can totally see a civic beating a firebird :-)

It's ironic that I have whooped so many ricers in their Civics with my Mustang, and now my goal with my Civic is to beat a Mustang. Funny.

Thats the one! 131 Motorsports Park. For whatever reason i totally forgot that you are in that area, i think i might be going out next weekend, probably just to watch and display my car's progress so far, but its usually a good time. lol, no i wasnt trying to bash or anything against you im just jealous as hell of his bike. It also makes me mad knowing he didnt pay much more for his bike than i did for my car. I dont think they really do tho...the one with the bike works at a shop up there selling Suzuki's, Ducati's and Hondas (dont remember the name) then in his spare time takes care of his 2yr old kid so he really doesnt have much free time anymore. Thats usually what ends up happening when u have a kid tho ;)[&:]

Yeah the late 80's TA's were crap but if you would have lined up against a GTA it would have been a bit different. that was back when gas mileage was a big factor and the best thing GM put out in the late 80's was the turbo TA that was a pace car. i think the 20th anniversery. and as for beating a 96 GT its awesome that a civic took it but the pre 2005 mustangs till about 95 when the 5.0 was discontinued are the biggest POS's i have every seen ford put out since the mustang II. the are over rated for hp and heavy as can be! Ford should have been the ones to discontinue their muscle car not GM! And i am not saying this because i hate Ford. I dont i love all cars. and american cars probly alittle more! but they are taking steps backwards with cars like the cobalt and caviliers! we need to move more towards the 300C and lincoln LS. or the even the camaros and firebird of old! this automotive industry is starting to slip and I think its time to get some engineers in there designing cars that have a passion for cars and not just there because they are autocad computer geeks worried about fuction and gas mileage!! We will never be able to compete with honda or toyota in the I-4 area! so we need to stick to what we are good at which is big displacement and and lots of metal!!!

like any of us will ever line up against a GTA. hehe. but even though they went to the 4.6l in 96, it could still outrun the 5.0 of old. i dont think too much of mustangs from the early 70s to 05. they just dont do anything for me. and i cant stand the mentality of most of the people who drive them. they are so full of themselves, and if you drive anything else, youre worthless, and your car is crap. it was so damn funny seeing them turn off at the next road with their heads tucked.:D

but even though they went to the 4.6l in 96, it could still outrun the 5.0 of oldmaybe the 96 dohc cobra but the sohc GT wil more like likely get its ass kicked buy a properly driven/running 5.0.

I dont know about you but i have lined up against GTAs before. they are not that rare. And i dont think a 96 4.6 could hang with a 5.0! they are weak over rated motors! they dont have the torque of the 5.0.

yeah, i guess i take that back. i just always heard that from mustang guys. but ive been looking around, and youre right. that 4.6 sucks. low 15s? out of a v-8?

yeah i had one in a 95 t-bird which was the first year. changed a year before the stang. had to do alot to keep up with the 5.0

i was considering a 95 Vert before i got the honda, but the insurance was almost double the payment.[:@] but i like the civic better.
