Hey guys...this has been a long time coming. I've been working two jobs so far this summer to pay for this project. At some point this winter I play to buy a z6 to build for boost, and put that in an eg hatch. Here's my rundown so far. Keep with me...I promise it won't take as long as flip's:).
Everything I have will be in pink since all yall chose blue.
Turbo-$150 (Rebuilt & balanced)
Turbo Manifold-$150 (Used, log style)
Oil Pan & Gasket-$55 (BNIB OEM Honda D16Y7 Steel oil pan from Honda-Normally $95)
Oil Lines/Tap
Intercooler-$208 (Bought in a kit with the piping/couplers)
Piping/Couplers
Blow Off Valve-$197.20 (Synapse Synchronic BOV)
Vacuum Manifold-$40 (Fast Turbo Vacuum Manifold)
Oil Pressure, Boost, and Water Temp Gauges-$190 (Local sponsor and next day delivery, can't beat that)
Pillar Pod
Turbo Timer-$60 (Buddy Club Secu-Timer BNIB from an asian at Honda, $130 or so regularly)
Boost Controller-$75 (Through Hondata S300)
O2 Wideband
Laptop (Extra one just for tuning)-$Free (From my mom's work, Windows XP)
ARP Headstuds-$97.10
Catch Can
Downpipe-Came with the other turbo I bought
Fuel Pump-$85
Fuel Injectors/Resistor Box-$20 (Free DSM 450s from my friend but both can be bought for about $100)
Spark Plugs-$17.00 (NGKs)
Synthetic Oil
OBD2A-OBD1 Jumper Harness-$75
Hondata S300 in OBD1 VTEC ECU-$720
Head Gasket Kit-$104 (OEM Honda Head Gasket Kit)
Tune
Fuel Pressure Regulator
Exhaust Manifold Gasket-$2 (OEM Honda Gasket)
Exhaust Manifold Bolts-$9 Set (OEM Honda ones)
Downpipe/Cat GasketHondata s300-$8 (OEM Honda Gasket)
Bolts to connect the Turbo and Manifold-Came with turbo
Bolts to connect the downpipe to the turbo-Came with turbo

As of now, I have a Garrett T3 .42/.48 turbo that's been rebuilt, but I might trade it in with some money for a GT28R or similar. We'll see how it goes. When I go in to work tomorrow, I'm gonna order the headgasket kit, exhaust manifold gasket and bolts, and the downpipe/cat gasket. Hopefully when I install all of this, I will do a DIY for this forum.

I also forgot to say that I will keep a detailed spreadsheet of my purchases and the prices which will be included in the DIY for future reference for everybody

Goodluck on that man, pretty well rounded setup your going for prolly will pay off in the end. what hp goal are you going for? Thats the same turbo i'm going to be using, if you end up keeping it.

GReddy_Civic
06-27-2008, 07:17 PM
Right around 190-200 whp. After the z6, hopefully 275-300. Thats why I bought a larger FMIC (31x11x3) and am buying the Hondata s300...so when I buy a z6, I can swap most of my stuff over to the new engine, with a few more purchases;)

GReddy_Civic
06-27-2008, 07:26 PM
Ok, Ill add in prices as I go but keep a running tally

GReddy_Civic
06-29-2008, 06:38 AM
So I ordered my OEM parts yesterday at work. I will try to get actual prices for people (Mine was a lot less because of my discount) and then I will put that up on here for people to see. I also am gettin a rebuilt GReddy TD04 Ball Bearing turbo I think with 3k miles on it from a guy at Honda really cheap. Ill let you all know later. Goin to autocross right now, woot!

GReddy_Civic
06-30-2008, 01:41 AM
Ok, ordered a vacuum manifold/brass fittings and added a thing or two to the list that I thought of that I need or people might need.

Shut it, this is just stage one. There will be more to come in the next year, jerk face. At any rate, ordered my ARP head studs and a Synapse Synchronic BOV last night

GReddy_Civic
07-03-2008, 06:25 PM
Another update...made me a little bit sad. Honda doesnt make OEM headgasket kits anymore for my car at least (D16Y8) So I had to piece some of them together, and some I didnt get so it did end up being cheaper but still kind of sad.

StifflersMom
07-03-2008, 06:30 PM
stage2 will involve replacement of teh blown engine... hehehhe

GReddy_Civic
07-03-2008, 07:05 PM
Stage 2 will be building a z6 for boost...hopefully 300 to the wheels. So yes...as soon as I pay off some college and get some extra $ i will buy a z6 if I can find one for a good price

Haha yea i did, all within 10%, cylinder 4 was a little low (around 8% off) but it seems good for now. Yea, I'll buy a new clutch at some point soon. It was 800 for the s300 installed in the ecu with the boost control and a basemap and then 75 for the harness and then 25 for shipping.

Tyler, I started today. James came over this morning around 10. We washed the cars for some pictures, took a few (which I will post here shortly), then headed to KFC buffet...because, well, it's James (enough said). Anyway, came back, mounted the FMIC and ran the one side of piping so I can have my friend weld on the BOV flange. Then, mounted the vacuum manifold, and started A/C removal. My next post will be pics.

I know it made me a little sad too. There was only a quart and a half to 2 quarts of oil after the whole thing was drained, and I didn't top it off, and it had been almost 3k miles, so we'll see. Pics in a bit. Had some college issues that needed to be taken care of so I didn't get a ton done.

Hahaha, Jameson. Ok, well update, I know I need pics for two days. Anywho, here's what was completed today. Oil pan was tapped, and then JB welded for extra insurance :D, the oil lines were ran from the turbo to the back of the block (the thing the oil pressure sensor plugs into) and the oil pan was a new Y7 steel pan. I bolted the turbo/manifold, and downpipe on, ran the rest of the IC piping that is now ran under the window washer bottle (thanks Tony) and I'm sure a few other things. Lots of pics tomorrow, and tomorrow I'll do the gauges and turbo timer and ECU, other than that, should be ready for a start up I think.

GReddy_Civic
08-08-2008, 10:42 PM
Hahaha, i have a vice, its just not fastened to anything. So I finished putting the fenders and plastic stuff back on, attached the oil pressure line to the sandwhich plate, and this means that upon grounding the wires and hooking them up to a power source, adding oil, coolant, spark plugs and wires and switchin ecu's, I should be done. Need to figure out how to attach the A11 wire for the boost control solenoid.

GReddy_Civic

Well it started! Had 2 oil leaks, fixed those. Now the bad parts. The oil pressure is reading 80lbs (no idea why), I'm still not sure the bov and boost controller are wired correctly, and I see lots of black smoke when I rev the engine a little bit.

FlipHKD720
08-09-2008, 06:16 PM
how do you have the BOV hooked up?

GReddy_Civic
08-10-2008, 07:24 AM
The synapse bov has 3 nipples. 2 on the back and one on the side. A and B are t'd together and ran to the vacuum manifold and nipple C (on the side) is t'd into the wastegate/compressor line (w/g and compressor are t'd together as well) I dont really know how to wire up the solenoid because of the wastegate being internal. I'm thinking of running the wastegate to the solenoid and then the co mpressor nipple to the bov. Here are two pics anyway

The oil pressure is reading 80lbs (no idea why), .

08-17-2008, 06:41 PM
the oil pump that came with my motor was junk, it was new but he installed a b16 oil pump on the d16 because it has a swapped b16 oil pickup tube... didnt work had to do some custom mods..

now its got a apocolypse oil pump... $180 ported, shimmed and calibrated, its what i recomend. 30% more flow than oem

your 2's sigs make me laugh, im going to go have to take a pic of mine like that now!

my oem oil pump off old motor is at mossys house :(

and flip, build it and cam it! vtec is just a more aggresive cam anyway...

FlipHKD720
08-17-2008, 07:55 PM
yea thats the one thing is that theres no cam for me, which is a big factor, but idk, just rods/pistons/headstuds, then a PNP head, i might be happy :)

but this is about Trent. Any future plans now that you're big and bad and boosted?

i need a clutch ASAP. the clutch slips at about 4500 in the first 4 gears. chances are i am getting a new y7 or y8 block from honda for dirt cheap, just puts rods and pistons in (reliability reasons ;) ) and shim the oil pump, maybe cam it , then work on suspension then maybe a new car?

didder
08-20-2008, 03:41 PM
oh come on, cam that bad boy as well!

my car with a skunk2 stage is awesome

it used to sound like a week whipper

now it sounds like a weed whipper, but with a TRACTOR MOTOR ON STEROIDS, running it lol. and like im driving down a set of railroad tracks... its totally awesome, it either a.) intimidates people, or b.) makes them laugh cuz my motor sounds like its about ready to explode lol

and lol i just ordered a new 45 hose end from fast turbo you tard, why dont you email him and get yourself a stage one unsprung clutch?

GReddy_Civic
09-28-2008, 05:51 PM
well of course Id take a free motor, but i meant thoughts on built y8 or ls swap... lots of problems with y8s under boost. Anyway, got some info on the y8, its not blown up, it just will not start. whatever tech worked on it tried a new dizzy, new plugs/wires, its getting fuel, new starter and alternator as well. It will just not turn over or if it does, it dies within a second or two. Not sure its wortht he work then

brutekiller787
09-28-2008, 06:07 PM
hmmm that's a toughy. i heard that vtec and boost don't go well together. plus you'd have more torque with 1.8 as opposed to 1.6

misconception

which part? boost and vtec or more torque with a bigger engine?

GReddy_Civic
09-29-2008, 10:24 AM
boost and vtec...plus the turbo you have plays a huge role in the torque you get

brutekiller787
09-29-2008, 10:33 AM
o ok well i heard it from a kid at school. but o well you learn something new every day. just for information, a smaller, faster spooling turbo give you more torque right, cuz i know a big turbo doesn't spool up until a high rpm.

addiction2bass
09-29-2008, 12:03 PM
word of advice dont believe kids talking.LOL look for the real people with turbos and read up...
and dont believe anyone that doesnt have a turbo or a few turbo setups. anybody can slap a ebay turbo on a car and talk there sh**.... at least until it blows there motor up.LOL

brutekiller787

word of advice dont believe kids talking.

hope you weren't talking about me there, lol.

but my bad on the misleading post, i meant to only highlight the vtec+boost portion. If you have a tuner that's worth anything, he can extract what the motor can give, regardless of vtec or not. there are too many factors to list to show what sacrifices torque, so the kid has no argument.

addiction2bass
09-30-2008, 02:36 AM
no not you.LOL

GReddy_Civic
09-30-2008, 04:17 AM
Yea, there are plenty of built and boosted GSR and Y8/Z6/D15B etc motors that make decent power and if you and your tuner know what youre doing, having vtec isnt really a big issue at all, not like you can ever hear the crossover at 5500 anyway ;)

megafandrew

o ok well i heard it from a kid at school. but o well you learn something new every day. just for information, a smaller, faster spooling turbo give you more torque right, cuz i know a big turbo doesn't spool up until a high rpm.

well im not exactly a turbo specialist, but I can tell you that when I had my 180sx with a larger upgraded turbo then the stock t25, It did take longer for it to spool up and without a tune there was quite a bit of lag, but when it hit watch out because it will hit hard and all at once. Im not sure I think I had a gt2871r it was good for about 480hp setup.

Ok, I think it's about time I lay down my plans for this coming year. So my plan is a built block and cammed with required springs/retainers. So I'm going to update page 1 with my plan. Well it's getting warmer out, which means good wrenchin weather. I had originally hoped to have a built block by now, but my parent's hours were cut at work (well they can't work overtime anymore) so I've been giving them more money which means I can't buy stuff....right now. Anyhow, I have a lot of things that went wrong over the winter so it's time to address those issues. First and foremost, the Y8 is shot. Like, I'm lucky to see 23mpg highway. I've been putting coolant and oil in regularly. Second, 2 of my shocks are blown. Third, some of my exhaust gaskets are gone. And finally there is a window trim piece missing (I tore it off with a buffer by accident at work). So here is the plan for this year.
Buddy Club N+ dampers with Skunk2 front and rear camber kits
OEM part motor rebuild with possibly pistons/rods (if I have the money in the next few weeks)
I'm trying to contact GReddy but their email is the ghey and I'm not getting a reply (delivery failure)
I have an order in for OEM floormats, 4 new window trim pieces (all the way around) and a new shift boot.
Anyway, that's all for now.
EDIT: Hopefully I'll have money soon for an OEM SiR lip. It'll look like this
