On the way home from visiting my g/f at work, a buddy and mine were riding in his ford ranger. We came up on a fairly recent looking civic dx with a helicopter wing and rather large but pointless muffler. Needless to say this thing was atrocious sounding. Well we pull up next to it at a redlight and I'm looking the car over and it has an enourmous DOHC VTEC sticker on the side. I leaned out the window and asked him if he had a swap and he said nah. I politly informed that if he was going to be a posing bitch with his stickers then he might want to remove his DX badge from the back screaming the almighty 80hp he has under the hood. He informed me to stfu and revved his "engine" and when the light turned green he took off. My friend gunned and at left the car far far behind. Funny thing is my friend got back from the test/tune the night before where he raced an old 5.0 stang that ran a 12.3, but the ranger only did a 17.9. No telling what the mighty DX was running. Seems ironic to me that people with V-Tec usually DE-badge. Why in the world would you represent V-Tec if you didn't have it?

I beat a v6 ranger with some sort of exhaust. the race was at a light from like 0-65. I killled him and was shifting way early and had another person in my car.

He probably had it for sound and ended up losing backpressure therefore killing his hp. I know somebody who did that to his mazda 6 (straight pipes) and his car is now slower.

GO GO POWER RANGER!!!!

What is it with 3.0 V6 Rangers that makes their driver's think that they are fast? Is it that POS multifuel OHV Vulcan (hereafter Vulgar) that makes them think they are quick

I have those stupid things try to race me all the time. They'd really be embarrassed if they knew I was shifting before 4400 rpm. Above 4400 they are teh dead.

Even worse are those retards in 2.3 l Rangers or B2300s. Oooohhhh you can get a second gear scratch. I'd be impressed except I already have two cars on you. Or the less impressive 2.2l Xtreme S10s. Nice body kit...loser.:D

GSRDevil

What is V-tech anyway? It is supposed to read "VTEC" or "V-TEC". Careful or you'll get flamed on here for saying "V-TECH". And SOHC and DOHC are: Single Overhead Cam (the wittle guy) and Double Overhead Cam (the not as wittle guy!) And, um...Typer2k....RSX!!! Gonna be getting mine in a long time (8 months), but I WILL get it!!! I applaud you for having one!!!

in ricer's mind, VTEC automatically = fast. In fact, I doubt that they even know what VTEC is. Toyota uses a similar technology, called VVTl - i. Mazda has a similar thing, and so does nissan, bmw, and there are probably more.

Yep!
Hell, even Chevrolet has variable valve timing on the Ecotecs and Trailblazers

Of course IMO Honda is still the best at it

ill have to give it up to Ferrari on this one. theirs has 3-dimensional lobes that are endlessly variable. so instead of just having two profiles to pick from, it has a million combinations, so its always perfectly suited to the need.

You are a complete moron....

The GM ecotec does not have in any way shape or form variable valve timing. It is a DOHC plain and simple.

Whoa! Take it easy. You don't have to insult somone to have a differing opinion (or to correct them).

The moron statement was in regards to both his VVT statement about ecotecs and this complete paragraph of ignorance:

I can't tell you how many times I'v seen a honda driver challange a Cobra or SRT4 to a race and get creamed every single time. Doesn't mean I assume all Honda drivers are morons :)
