My pictures went MIA so at the bottom are up to date pics
Alright so I finally decided that I would restart a project thread for my ef. For my ef I want it to be fast but also look good. For the look of the car I want it completely flatt black with red accents(the original color was red it'll be easier) and a pretty stock look on the outside besides the paint obviously. Brakes I now have rear discs. Suspension it has ksport coilovers. For the interior I want red sparco or bride seats. It already has a momo steering wheel and I plan to have rear seats but also a 6-8 point roll-cage. The original plan was to turbo the d16y7 but I decided to start over with a b series. So b18a is a go. My current plan is for a built b18a for all motor and nitrous. I haven't really decided on a hp goal yet. But with a built motor and direct shot of nos I'm expecting 250hp. That might be a stretch but we'll see. Ill try to keep this updated as much as possible but probably for the next couple weeks going away.
If anyone has advise on what parts to use feel free to let me know.
Right now I have:
Almost everything.
My lower end.
b18a1 built block with type r water, and oil pump. it has a lightened crank which is balanced, and its been bored out to 82mm with 12.7:1 JE pistons; it also has eagle rods, ACL bearings, and has been blue printed. the block has less then 500 miles on it
I need to buy:
Throttle body
header
traction bar
What I want:
New seats
New windshield
headunit
So heres what everyone wants PICTURES.

Ok my project has been slow for a while because I'm outa cash. I got my job back at longs so im back to working 2 jobs yipppeee. The wheels pictured towards the top of the page are being sold to a friend for $300 so thats a little more cash. And I still have all my turbo parts for sale along with my D16 which is being completely parted out.
Today I want to finish the rear disc brakes. I have to wire the ebrake cables to the handle.
Go to the junkyard and pick up
some pos pin
40/40 valve (do i need both the valves off the teg or just one????)
master cylinder.

I haven't looked at this for a while! Looks like its still going strong. persistence impresses me a lot, i know how f-ing annoying these things can be. but its funny how EF's just love causing problems and how they seem to eat all of our money. LOL. That thing should haul ass when its done.
How hard was the rear disc conversion btw? And what are your interior plans?
jpnolan
10-09-2008, 05:26 PM
rear disc swap wasn't hard at all! just takes time.
This week i got my short block that came with:
i have a b18a1 built block with type r water, and oil pump. it has a lightened crank which is balanced, and its been bored out to 82mm with 12.7:1 JE pistons; it also has eagle rods, ACL bearings, and has been blue printed.
Also I Got this week place racing motor mounts.
3rd thing i bought was a membership to yoparts.com and a head gasket set from them. only before i remembered that i need an 82mm headgasket! damn
Lastly this week i got my head resurfaced and a complete valve job done.
my mom has my camera and shes in oregon and i cant find my phone to comp wire but as soon as i can ill get some pics up parts look good!

second, i think not, more small parts than i can remember and a ****load more to come some of the **** there is so overpriced.
It really does, I owe my friend $500 still for letting me borrow money, i just spend $200 on San Jose Sharks tickets to go with this girl, and its probably going to cost me another $200 to go visit her in 3 weeks

Ok I've been thinking about it and what I might do is use my stock ignition but other than that use the integra wiring harness. for the dash and motor. And just cut just about everything because i dont use a/c or barely anything all i want is all the lights, maybe some fogs, cluster, clock, horn and headunit. other than that i dont need anything electrical. If anyone knows anything about this or any links please drop the links on the thread. So today im going to hit picknpull with some big pockets and see what all i can get my hands on.
jpnolan
11-11-2008, 07:12 PM
YAY pictures!
ok so thanks to veterans day I got a chance to give the ef some time. So I hit autozone and got some primer, flat black paint, sand paper and masking tape. All I had time to do was the drivers door and there wasn't much sun today so it took a while to dry. All in all I think it looks good. let me know what you think. YES RATTLE CAN! sorry I cannot afford a 2k paint job, I like it. Also i know that the door jams and such will still be red, but thats ok with me :)
Also at the bottom me and a friend put the d16 back in for just a couple days for fun. ENJOY!

ya, I'm not too worried with the feel of the car I just want it flat black, it prettty much feels as ruff as sand. Engine bay will get painted probably this weekend, door jams might be done in a couple weeks, today im going to do the d quarter panel and respray the hood.

ah come on, that taping job makes me sad. you go out and buy tape and only use a couple feet worth??? btw, look pretty good for rattle can matte black. any plans for interior? like a seat for that matter?
jpnolan
11-13-2008, 05:22 PM
as for a seat, no who needs that? ya once i put the ls back in im going to use my stock seats unless I can trade for some in the mean time. ya I was over excited to paint so i did a terrible masking job. Just finished clear coating the fender and door, and repainted the hood. Looks ok imo, I'm really not too worried about how it looks so efforts in telling me it looks ****ty will make me laugh.
plans for interior..... na probably no carpet, one seat and i guess a dashboard. I really want this car to be SUPER LIGHT weight. hopefully that will help me beat my friends 300 whp nissan 300zx tt

So I had to repaint everything because there was dirt on it last time I painted it so when I would touch it, it would be ashy. So I repainted the drivers side fender and entire drivers door. On the piece that goes at the bottom of the window it has this retarded like weather shi t on it that was flaking but won't fully come off. So I'm working on it. Also I know don't allow my friends to do shi t to my car. I let my friend paint the hood while I worked on pulling the motor the other day and the genius used like 3 cans of paint and in the end I have to do it all over again. Today when I went to repaint the door i decided to pull the door so I could lay it down and such, after the bolts came out I realized that it weighs 157234547 pounds and quite possibly made my back worse than it was before. Also I had hella trouble getting the door panel off because I didn't research how to do it first, that was a mistake.
Ya, so I pretty much decided today that I'm going to remove most everything from the car that has any weight to it. So door panels, rear panels, rear bumper support (don't tell me how thats dangerous and shi t if as if I didn't know already.)

Ok so after completely wrecking one of the intake stud threads. I went to the junkyard today to get some. I got that and some intake-fuel rail studs. Installed the IM and Fuel rail and Injectors. Although the Fuel rail and FPR don't seem to want to mate so I'm going to do some drilling. :D Other than that its all coming together..... Maybe ill order my flywheel tonight... I can't decide. But NOOOOOOOOO the VALVE cover WILL be painted. Its just for pics that I put it on. Although it does look cool like that. :D

with 2 of them and maybe a drill you could probably make a bracket. in fact, 1 of them might be enough if you lay it flat and bend the ends upward.

Ok so today I got the motor in, well at least with 2.5 mounts, I'm only using three. Also got the timing belt on. Had to use a gsr belt due to the water pump and such. The gsr belt has 126 teeth while the ls has 125.
Had to pull the subframe down a little bit so that I could get that last stupid bolt out of the rear mount.
So heres some pictures.

jpnolan

b18a1 built block with type r water, and oil pump. it has a lightened crank which is balanced,
Is that what youre reffering to?
trustdestruction
03-22-2009, 10:09 PM
What I mean is: is the crank balanced?
if it's not, running a crank pulley without a harmonic balancer can be very dangerous to the engine and eventually cause crankwalk. That's why I recommend the CTR N1 Crank Pulley, it's has the harmonic balancer in it.
EDIT: just saw your second reply. You'll be safe.

Nice project, it's coming along nicely! I love EF's; when I get my Si done, I'm getting a CRX. I've always wanted one.
About those metal plates that Trust posted: At work we call them nailing plates. I do plumbing; we nail those plates in front of gas or water lines, so no one tries to, say, hang a picture, and put a nail right through a gas/water line. If you want, I'm more than willing to grab you a couple, just pay me for shipping.

By the end of the day hopefully I'll put in my new fuel pump.
Oh and btw benen fuel rails suck. So I went to put on my blox fpr on (you mod the stock fpr with the blox top end, so the mounting holes haven't changed) and its off my like a 1/16th of an inch. So I go to drill them just a touch wider, both of my craftsmen batterys for my drill have defected...... I drilled the holes with nothing but the bit and my hands :( got it done, heres pics.

Ya I don't think this is too popular of a build thread so I'll update when I'm bored.
Along with the other thing I had to put in a type r throttle cable which is basically half the length of the pr4 cable.
Also if anyone swaps all 4 of their brakes for something else..... Ignore the manual. Bleed front furthest from prop valve then rear opposite and so on. Stupid manual made me buy a new master cylinder and waste hella time. but my brakes work yay.
Also I would just like to say publicly,
F**K the DMV. I hate all of you, that is all.

jpnolan

12.7:1 compression.
With low octane at the compression it will combust before the pistons are at tdc. Which is bad, higher octane prevents this.
