no sir, i can proudly say i paid for the car in full (cash), I am only 18, I own and opperate my own hay hauling company in summer months. I make in 3 months what most make in 6-9
EDIT: yes i still live at home, yes its my dads shop, yes I have access to his tools, but believe it or not, i rarely have to venture outside my tools for the build. IE 32mm socket for the axle nuts, breaker bar, and some electral goodies to fix some hack wiring

id like to know where you got that flip key from????
and ya those axles can definatly freeze in there! my 99 drivers axle seized inside the knuckle, i had to hammer that sucker out with a sledge. unfortunatly i jacked up the threads and couldnt get the threads to straighten out after filling for about an hour so i just went down and bought a new one! :(

key is kinda a one of deal, saw a few sell for over $100 (insane right!?!), picked mine up from another forum guy for $20 :D
After i used my 8 foot (ya, 8 feet) breaker bar to get the axle nuts off, the axles came out fine. What casued yours to freeze in there? little rust maybe?
addiction2bass
11-01-2008, 03:22 PM
i got no idea why it was seized in... the axle nut came right off with my good impact gun. its a strong gun for sure! never had a problem removing the crank bolts. ive removed 3 different crank pulleys with it with ease.
i was changing the alternator out to a highpower alternator and i had to pull the axle to get it out and new one in... the shaft wasnt messed up only the threads on the axle nut so i had to replace it. i kept it tho just incase i ever need the joints or boots....
i need to replace my 96axle BUT its the passenger side i need. :( or else id just use my old one and swap the end shafts.

the v.c. is the stock one powdercoated some version of an "apple" red, cost me $125 for that, would have need $100 but i wanted the raised lettering to be polished

the Vtec valve covers are from mostly 92-95 D16z6 motors. they right up to all 96-00 SOHC civic motors.
only downfall is there age..... typicaly there is corrosion on them that needs to be cleaned off and sanded before painting them. not always but most i have seen personaly have some.
i have a extra one from my old z6 i had that i dont plan on using... PM me a offer ;)
i plan on selling my 99ex vtec civic and my 96dx doesnt have vtec so that would be stupid to put it on it!

i love a painted motor for sure... thats how i did my old 94 Z6 motor but i definatly go thru it as extensive as you did with all the bolts.LOL i just cleaned the whole thing and primed it and painted it!! i think it turned out pretty nice myself.

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e250/addiction2bass/94civic%20project/DSC002482.jpg
tho the header paint i used was just the 500degree paint which was not good enough for the header.LOL it slowly burned it right off... 6 months later ;) ill definatly use 1500degree paint next time if i ever paint a stock header again....
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e250/addiction2bass/94civic%20project/fc316ec4.jpg
when i pull the motor on my 96dx im going to paint it also, but im going to paint it same as the car a gunmetal color. should blend in very nice and almost disapear....
i would go black again BUT i learned one small problem from black... if you have a small oil leak its really hard find exactly where the leak is comign from! :( so ill try to stay away from all black next time around ;)
im definatly keepen an eye on your build. should look very nice when done!!!!!!! looken very good!

IMO there no such thing as to much of a picture whore! with my old 94project i have 563 images, 15 videos, of my old project. ;)
actualy i got more photos and videos of it, but my photobucket only totals those pics/vids in that one folder... not subfolders.
its called picture proof that youve done everything you say you have done! defiantly helped me selling that civic...
nothing better than showing all your hard work and being able to prove it all! you can say youve done all kinds of repairs but if you cannt prove it i dont trust it. ;)
keep up the good work. tho when are you gonna paint the motor? or are you just paint the intake only?

All this good stuff then you JB weld the oil pan fitting? I think you should get the JB crap off and have it welded, it doesn't cost that much and its a lot better.

well first off, the fitting is brass, and you cant weld brass to steel. And secondly, the return line is not pressurized, I was told by several guys who build d's for a living (go-autoworks.com) that it works fine and they often do it with high hp builds

ya i know ya had two. i just wouldnt have painted it any...
you should go ahead and completly paint it and then try and sell it.....
ive been holding onto my spare Vtec cover for almost a year now, i was gonna slap it on my 99ex but i already painted it black awhile ago so i kept it stock cover. and now that im selling the ex this winter i guess i wont be using mine after all..... tho i still might keep it... IMO its worth about 50bucks.... mainly because its desirable for 96-00 civics people.

ya the oil pan is stayin nasty, its probably gonna hit pavement at one point or another anyways, plus you dont really see it from above.
left them unpainted because there was just so much to mask off in those areas, that area's never really seen, and I was having a hard time cleaning all the hard to get grease pockets
