Are you loosing oil from the engine somewhere? Or is it burning oil? When was the last oil and filter change? Are you using 5W-30 oil? How many miles on the engine?

check the condition of the tappets and make sure their clearances are factory spec, which should be 7 thousandths of an inch on the intake side and 8 thou on the exhaust side. Make sure you check it with a feeler guage when the engine is cold, it must be cold, i.e not ran in hours to be sure. It could also be a dodgy valve, pull the head to check their condition. scurry away and try this, then report back

1) Check regularly to keep the oil level full (but don't overfill).

2) Locate oil leak. Common leak locations are valve cover, distributor, VTEC solenoid, oil pan, front or rear main seal. Clean the engine and watch for points where fresh oil drips appear.

3) If the engine is burning rather than leaking oil, this may be caused by bad piston rings, valve seals, or head/head gasket.

4) With respect to the clicking noise, it may or may not be caused by engine damage due to running low on oil. Fix the leak/oil burning, replace the oil and filter, and go from there.

If you had to put oil that means your valves need to be checked it sounds like you may not have had enough oil going to the top for the valves.
