Street n Strip - tips and tricks?View Full Version : tips and tricks? civicboy01 07-06-2005, 04:28 PM i figured i would start one of these since i havent seen any and i dunno jack, thanks... Patrick 07-06-2005, 05:37 PM tips and tricks to do what? Ballz0034 07-06-2005, 06:04 PM anything that anybody thinks is a tip or a trick to make your civic better. Street Sniper 07-06-2005, 07:05 PM I thought we had one of these somewhere... Yeah, here: Tips and Tricks (http://www.hondacivicforum.com/m_64305/tm.htm) Doesn't seem to be many entries though. I guess everybody is keeping their trade secrets. Stingy. civicboy01 07-06-2005, 09:05 PM i was thinking, more racing tips, like one guy in DIY talked about weight reduction, cause if ur racing, u need tricks, like when to launch at what rpm, and all, i might be talking stupid, but i think it would be useful? racing tips i guess i meant?? KnightRiderCivic 07-06-2005, 09:54 PM Oh Oh Oh!!! i got a tip.....dont race a car faster than yours!! lol just playin. I understand what you are saying though. Like different set ups that people have ran and the out come so we dont waste our money. One thing I have done to my civic that has been soo worth it is suspension and wheels...civics handle ok stock kinda.....but when i bought my wheels i just did it for looks mainly and they turned out being a lot better handling! here is a crappy pic of one of them. civicboy01 07-06-2005, 10:01 PM dam thats dusty, thanks hopefully we get alot of good tips 315 Customs 07-06-2005, 11:23 PM knightridercivic that looks every car that rolls out of my garage (dust wise I mean)! Gotta love sanding fiberglass!!!! andryuha 07-06-2005, 11:54 PM Civics are actually great handling cars, especially hatches. the only better handling FWD car i could think of is ITR. Slap GC coilovers on and there you go. You will beat a lot of cars on AutoX course. As for engine performance mods, I came to the conclusion that the only way to get a real bang for the uck is to go FI. I mean, go to the scrap yard and find like a T25 turbine for $100 or so. Buy the rest of the stuff on ebay. Instead of wasting money on expensive bolt-ons, save up some money and piece together a turbo kit. Make the exhaust yourself - you can find all kinds of pipes and fittings at summit racing equipment. The things you will really need to buy for retail are a piggyback computer, intercooler, and perhaps some bigger injectors and a bigger fuel pump. Another thing that I would recommend for racing is using the highest profile possible on your front wheels. This will improve your times greatly sacicons 07-07-2005, 01:10 AM highest as in tallest? or widest? Omen68 07-07-2005, 05:20 AM Stickers bro... Lots of stickers. Overly wide tire will slow you down. Patrick 07-07-2005, 02:46 PM you mean for road course racing and autoX, right? hondabboy 07-07-2005, 03:23 PM ORIGINAL: Omen68 Stickers bro... Lots of stickers. :D the tip really is practicing and knowing how to shift at the right time and all that other crap hondabboy 07-07-2005, 07:01 PM the reason why is because the last owner of my car ran a 17.6. he couldnt go less the that time. and my integras a ls i look at him like this [sm=icon_rofl.gif]. soo i took matters to my own hand and ran a 15.9 while the motor was above normal temp. not trying to show off ;) :D but hey i was happy that night. lol everyone applaused for me lol well all my friends and i was with about 20 friends. KnightRiderCivic 07-07-2005, 08:03 PM a taller tire will help you for top end true.....but a small circumfence tire will help launch and low end plus you have less unsprung weight. that has been a huge battle for years. in my opinion a mid size like a 15 inch wheel with like a 215/65 15 if you dont have much low end or a 16 inch rim with a 65 series tire if you are getting good 1000ft. times and laggin after the 1000ft. also if you are having traction problems the taller sidewall helps because you can let alittle...a very little bit of air out for a bigger foot print.....also if you are goin to a drag stip when you are pullin up to the line go very slow and stop the second that the second yellow comes up cause they are lasers that go across the track and you can take take off at the third yellow and you wont red light. also i said a 215 cause thats about the biggest you can get on a stock civic but if you are goin to the track and having traction problems still at line and you can fit wider tires on there go for it. Street Sniper 07-07-2005, 08:08 PM .....but a small circumfence tire will help launch Actually I think you have that backwards. A taller tire will give you better traction. Bigger circumference = more rubber on the road. ngoti 8tor 07-07-2005, 09:28 PM ORIGINAL: Street Sniper A taller tire will give you better traction. Bigger circumference = more rubber on the road. More rubber on the road is from a wider tire. A bigger circumference doesn't put more rubber on the road. Remember, the only rubber on the road is at the bottom of the tire where it meets the road. Street Sniper 07-07-2005, 10:07 PM I don't want to start an argument, but if you were to look at a tire's footprint from underneath, a tall tire would have more surface area than a shorter tire of the same width. ngoti 8tor 07-07-2005, 10:16 PM ORIGINAL: Street Sniper a tall tire would have more surface area than a shorter tire of the same width. I didn't know you meant "the same width". I agree with your above statement. Patrick 07-08-2005, 10:34 AM lower profile tires are better for drag racing, or bottom end, in general. as you decrease the tire size, it takes less work by the engine to make a rotation of the tire, so the RPMs will come up faster, and you have, in a way, increased your gear ratio. on one of my nonners, i changed from a 215-50-17 to a 205-40-15, and i gained some 2 tenths in the quarter mile. but no one speified what type of racing were talking about..or did i miss that? andryuha 07-08-2005, 11:04 AM i meant drag racing. and i heard the thing about bigger profile tires from an experienced drag racer Patrick 07-08-2005, 01:58 PM but a larger tire decreases your gear ratio. on Very powerful cars, they go to a larger tire because theyre gearbound, or they have a very poorly geared high gear and wish to keep it out of that gear. andryuha 07-08-2005, 02:43 PM well, I can't argue with you here, since I know very little about drag racing. I just took his word for it. BTW he drove a 12sec mustang (i think it was late 80s). It was an older guy (50-60yr) and he mentioned that he occasionally street races for money sacicons 07-08-2005, 11:02 PM he probably had some vicious 4.00+ final drive in it, and thats the easiest way to tame it. Patrick 07-09-2005, 10:24 AM with heavily built drag cars, some guys, liek myself running a 4.88 gear, are running out of Rs on the top end, so you switch, say from a 26 to a 28...which stretches the gears out a bit....on a car like my slow nonner, or a not so fast civic, smaller is better, unless youre running out of gears top end..in my slow car i run tiny 15s on the front, and im still only trapping 3rd gear. |
