EDIT: Alright, so I've been thinking a lot lately, and I've come to a conclusion that I'm converting back to stock. I plan on removing pretty much everything aftermarket, except for my grille and front lip and headunit. I'm going to be putting the stock suspension back on, selling the wheels for si wheels, removing all the suspension braces, reinstalling my oem intake, getting rid of the carbon fiber hood, and other misc tasks to convert it to a majority stock look.

Plans have changed, so Mods can delete this thread from the project list if they like.

good deal, i don't think I have ever seen you actually do something to you car since I have been on here. I'm anxious to see what it looks like when you are all done. Sounds like it will look pretty good.

Nice little project. Out of curiousity, why did you delete the armrest? I can't stand driving without an armrest... but then again, I'm really lazy and like to rest my elbow on the armrest while driving lol

Appreciate it.

As for the armrest delete, I don't have one, I installed an armrest, I'm getting older lazier as well. The pictures in the first post are all old pictures. I'm going to be taking new pics sooner or later. I'm kinda waiting for my sister to get back with her new Nikon DSLR :) :) :) :)

You car looks sweet.

Its just too bad you have to suffer with that horrible y7 Intake manifold. I know I am swapping to a y8 one as soon as I cna get one.

Otherwise, your car looks sweet.

by deleting your armrest the reason people do this is to allow yourself to do quick shifting without banging your elbow on the armrest. i like mine where it its though...lol

i like your door panels i know that there is a kit that you can buy on ebay to convert it to the type r red color

Ahh, I see. I saw something about an armrest in the plans and saw the caption on the one interior pic and figured you deleted the stock armrest. Anyway, any performance plans to include here? Mini-me? Header? Anything? (As a side note, I have a friend that should still have at least a y8 intake mani, he probably has a y8 head sitting around still; if you're interested, I can talk to him and find out.)

And munkee, you can do the door panels pretty easily by yourself for something like $20. Check out the DIY Appearance section, Addiction2bass has a pretty good write-up on the door panels.

i dont remember how much the kit was but it includes everything from the cloth to the hardware.

ej6buddy
12-18-2008, 03:04 PM
Yeah, I recovered the door panels for $8.00 (fabric on sale, hehe). Don't waste your money with some kit. Plus, I don't have red door panels anyway.

As for performance, I might get one, don't really know just yet, but one thing i do know, is that the y7 manifold does suck (and not literally). I guess I could get a y8 mani and sell my y7 and intake to boot to pay for it. The reason I'm holding off with any performance parts for the past couple of years is because I'm probably swapping out to either a gsr, ls, or h22 in the future when I'm out of college and actually have money and a steady income. No need in "hooking" up a d16y7 when I'm not looking to boost.

your gonna have to do some kind of better write up on the Y8 intake swap....
i demand it. ;)
because id really like to do the Y8 intake swap on my Y7 but i got no idea what it all needs for it to be true and CEL free...
i want to know what kinda car ya got it from also ;) im not sure if the manual/auto intakes are different or not... i know from switching from a auto to manual theres some kinda sensor difference. also abotu the throttle body as well.
im very interested in doing this swap!

Tiran

If I get to do a y8 swap first I will post a write up. I am going to use this as my guide.

Y7 to y8 intake manifold (http://www.cincinnatistreetracing.com/streetracing/index.php?showtopic=8968&pid=100159&st=0&#entry100159)

And EJ, there is ALWAYS a point is hooking up a y7. The y7's longer gears, while designed for efficiency, give it more time while on boost.

ej6buddy
12-23-2008, 06:11 PM
^ lol, yeah, i like the longer gearing, but yet, I think they're still too short for my taste :) . I don't know, I might boost it, but I think I might be able to get a hold of a ls swap or something maybe during the summer when I have a steady income, school budgets suck. That way I could either go for an ls/vtec setup, or I could go with a boosted ls setup.

Addiction, it's actually pretty easy. There's only a few things that get a little confusing and it all depends on what year car you have. things like air injection, iacv setup, tb spring and cable setup, and maybe a fitv sensor. And yes, the automatic and manual do differ in iacv sensors and throttle body setups. Even if I don't do it, I can help you out if you need it.

well mines a 96 and 5speed ;)
ive been looking at my fav pullapart yard but so far the 3 civics that ive seen come thru it all didnt have any motor or tranny even in the car :( and everyone ive seen on ebay... wel ive been outbid at last second and dont feel like spending anymore!

ej6buddy
12-23-2008, 06:21 PM
^ That was me that outbid you......lol, j/k

But yeah, your best bet will be the 96-98 D16Y8 AUTOMATIC manifold. The 99-00 will work, but you have to plug the air injection port. and you need to reuse your y7 fuel injectors and rail unless you want to run lean with y8 injectors :)

No, I use photobucket, they have a beta border tool, if that's what you're referring to..

Blah, blah, blah, I know, lol. I still like my hood with the vents, it makes it look mean, and I think it's worth it, I've got tons of compliments from the hood, so I think it served it's purpose. But I'm going for a OEM unit now, I might even do the "vented" look for a while depending on the dampers.

Sigracer10

if you like the vents stick with the hood you got. I personally think that both hoods look good.

ej6buddy
01-01-2009, 09:29 PM
^ I would, but my hood is kinda falling apart, it's a VERY old hood made by wings west, so i'm in the market for an oem unit so I can use my dank hood dampers :)

Thanks, and yes, I installed the sidemarkers myself, I used a dremel tool with plenty of cutting blades. All I did was tape up the area, used my template that i got from either honda-t3ch or jdmuniv3rse or something (can't remember). then I slowly cut away keeping the metal cool, then slightly filed away the edges and used some left over touch up paint. Then wired and loomed everything to look like factory. ;)

If I find the actual template, I'll shoot you a pm.

And of course, THE F'ING CAR IS ALIGNED, YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT CRAP I WENT THROUGH TO GET IT DONE, LOL (caps necessary)

Apparently honda's toe doesn't like lowering that much, lol. It was almost 1+ inch OUT of toe, I was plowing the road, lol.

gaaaaaahhh I just realized I never called Alex about that y8 mani... I'll tell you what. I'll see if I can't get ahold of him tomorrow... actually, I guess it's today now lol... but I'll let you know when I get in touch with him.

And I like the drop... looking good. The front might be as low as my ej1 was... now just bring that ass end down :D

*ninja edit: oh, and with that toe, try driving it for a while... I promise your tires will be gone in 3 months tops. If you want, I can dig up pictures from when I kept putting off an alignment lol. And it's fun getting the car onto the alignment rack, isn't it? :D

nah, don't worry about it right now, I'm not sure if that's the route I wanna go. I'm thinking about saving up and not eating (lol) and try and get a gsr this summer. I mean, i have the money now, but I wouldn't be able to pay for rent...... :(

As for the drop, I was just playing around with the height. I actually raised the whole car from those pictures :( Yes, I know it sucks, but I'm a practical person, and that height is not practical. It has a finger gap on all four corners now.

And the car is completely aligned, running a 1/8 toe up front, and 1/16 toe in the back. the camber is setup as well, it handles like a race car (considering it's a race inspired alignment, lol)

And as for the alignment rack, it's not a big deal, I use an in ground alignment rack, by far the easiest way to do it. I could be so low I'm dragging and still get on the rack, it's horizontal.

reaper2022
01-09-2009, 11:07 PM
All right, cool... a b18c would be badass.

And what are you talking about "not practical"? I don't see how tucking tires is impractical. I mean, yeah, you can't drive straight over speed bumps... and yeah, you have to angle the car to get into a steep driveway... and yeah, you have to be careful how you drive... and yeah, you can't park close to the curb and still be able to open the passenger door... :D

And I'm jealous of the in-ground alignment rack... it took a good 10 minutes to get my civic up on the rack after lowering it... let's just say a few 2x4's were used... I don't even know where the nearest shop with an in-ground rack would be.

^ my grandfather used to own a c&s tire, it used to be his, but I use it whenever I want ;) Hopefully, if my uncle retires, I'll be getting the in ground unit :)

Why the sudden change of heart?

I'm actually not 100% sure, but I'm getting tired of driving on the rough suspension (already, i know) and me having to constantly keep up with everything. So I'm going back to stock and drive it until i'm out of college so I can start with a better platform such as a vette c5 or audi, bmw, or suby. It's just getting old, plus it will give me a chance to focus on school and getting a career setup.

My Civics are bone stock. What mods require the most upkeep?

It's not necessarily the upkeep, it's the constant changing of things. for instance, my amp just blew.. When you install new things, you'll usually have new problems which require new fixes. I'm not in a position to keep fixing things, especially when I'm a long way away from my tools :(

RonJ
01-26-2009, 08:48 PM
How much time and work is involved with returning to stock? Do you have all the original parts?

ej6buddy
01-26-2009, 09:17 PM
Not very hard at all. The entire suspension swap should take me around 1.5 hours, then a quick front end alignment (about 15 minutes). Remove the system (about 20 minutes). Get a stock hood painted and install the dampers (15 minutes). Remove the intake and install the factory unit (30 minutes). Remove misc. parts such as tow hook, strut bars, etc. Most of the parts on my car are factory (or factory upgrades) such as the floormats, fog lights, shift boot, arm rests, si taillights, and painted exterior pieces.

How do you do a quick front end alignment?

ej6buddy
01-26-2009, 10:19 PM
I have an in ground front end machine, it only takes about 15 minutes to do a front end job considering ride height, camber, and caster aren't adjustable on 6th gen civics. The only thing you do is dial in the front, adjust, then recheck, then perhaps a little more fine adjustment, then a quick test run to settle the suspension and if you want to be extra cautious, another quick dial in after the test run.

tired of bass.... hell i know ill never be.LOL when i dont have it i miss it to much... sure ya just dont want to downgrade alittle bit. thats the most id ever do...

but good luck with what ever ya do. i know my civics gotten older/slower ever since i got my truck, but im going to keep the civic anyways so i can save $ when it comes to daily driving so i can save about 20-30bucks a week in gas alone.
guess thats the best thing about having 2 vehicles.

ej6buddy
01-27-2009, 03:47 PM
Well, the reason the bass is going for now is b/c the amp took a dump on me. Anyway, I'm just tired of putting money and time into something that's going to always be slow to mildly slow.

Anyway, the system is out, for the exception of a few wires..
