Introduction: I got the 1999 Civic Ex in February of 2008. It came with a no name exhaust that didn't sound all that bad. The paint was ok, but after a nice detail job looked much better. She did come with a few dings and dents, but those will soon disappear this summer. The interior was in perfect condition and still is. Another bonus was there were only 62,000 miles on the car. Since then I was in a front end accident and just got done fixing it. All the work I have been doing on it lately has sparked my interest in modding it again and I have decided to create a build thread since I have some big plans in the next 3-5months before I go off to college. Anyways I'll post pictures in order of things happening and bellow will be my mod list and future plans.

So here is some here is some history on the car. I recently got into a car accident. I rear ended my friend. It wasnt too bad of an accident but here are some pictures of the progress and the final result. I think it turned out ok. The hood, lights, and other small parts where none usable, along with the radiator core support. I was able to get a used radiator core support for cheap, but the rest I bought primed and ready to paint.

do you mean when the light is hitting my garage? Yea it is slightly, it also my be because of the car accident, tough to get everything to align like it used to but I had that same problem b4 the accident so it just needs to be adjusted.

um, like $500 about a week cause I had school and stuff.
just ordered a new a/c condenser fan, it was rattling and causing vibration throughout the car. I blame it on the accident, should take like 5min. to swap it out.

Little update here, did the oil change went fairly well.
Today I tried to install the coilovers. Everything was going great untill i had to compress the spring and get some of the stock parts. I just couldnt loosen the top nut and could feel it start to strip so i stopped tried a few other things and then had to pack it up and put the stock setup back on. My dad and I had a hell of a time getting the fork to line up with the lca arm on the drivers side, but the passengers side was really easy. Anyways im just going to buy the stock parts I need and that will make it 10x easier.

are you talking about removing the top hat? i had a friend help me with mines. 1 of us held on to the hex driver and the other use a wrench and stepped on top of it pulling on the opposite direction of the person pushing down on the wrench. but yea get stock parts would be 1000x easier.
just a tip maybe this would help you to get the fork and the lca to line up. i use the jack to jack up the lca to match up with the fork. are you trying to get the bolt back on?
croninc
04-17-2009, 12:39 PM
yeah me and me dad went at it for awhile an couldnt get it. But its all back together so no worries. I prolly end up just buying the parts. That way i can keep my stock setup together and make it easier to switch back to stock or sell them.

removed the broken a/c condenser fan and installed the new one. It was pretty easy and im glad im one step closer to getting some cold air in the cabin of the car.
One question tho, is it really hard to re-charge the a/c your self? or does it need to be done by a shop?

Don't use seafoam after a fresh oil change. Use it right before an oil change. The contents of seafoam are fairly corrosive.

Ok sounds good, Im actually making chicken wings right now so after they are done cooking ill give it a shot. Yeah it would actually look really good if there werent all those spots, if it does work ill post pics and probably re sand it tomorrow. O and wont the rubber on the bottom burn off? Make sure you do it after the cooking of the food, I think the VC being in the oven like that will make the entire kitchen/house smell a little like oil. You make be able to find a DIY through Google.
Are you talking about the rubber valve cover gasket? If so, take that out before baking the VC. If you need a new one, it would be a good time to go and buy one... not too expensive.

thanks, not sure on the exhaust. It came with the car when I bought it and he guy didnt remember what brand. I'm guesing its something cheap, but imo its sounds pretty good. Eventually it will get swapped out for either a magnaflow or ws2. In the next month or so im going to remove the exhaust and sand it down and paint it flat black. There is some lettering on it but its too dirty to read + im laying on my back lol.
also painted the oil cap flat black(looks sick in person) and the spark plug wire holder thingy flat black(again looks really good). Im thinking about painting the bolts flat black too, but im not sure prolly just going to match them with the VC.

Thanks, today I have been thinking about painting the car flat black instead of redoing the stock color. jpnolan did you just sand, prime, and paint your car? And how has it held up to the weather? This option would be way cheaper for me as its much easier to paint a car flat black then any color with gloss and I would then be able to do the whole project myself. Also I just got hooked up with a professional paint gun.

ok so I maganged to get the new VC on today. But i also managed to fuk it up. Little update:
Tomorrow I am about to buy some 15" rota slipstreams(flat black). They come with tires (Dunlop direzza sport z1 195/55R15) two have really bad camber wear, I confirmed this today when I went to check them out. We just settled on $280 which imo is a great deal.
One question tho, im about to get some 195/50/15's to replace the two with bad camber wear, does it really matter if I put the 55's in the front or the 50's in the front? I was thinking the 50's would be better since they are brand new. LMK wat you guys think.
Also the drop should finally be happening thurs. after I get out of work...slips will also be installed then too. Pictures to come!!! And the new tool set.

Lets start off with the boring stuff and work our way to the fun stuff. Finally removed the broken bolt that I snapped off while re-installing my valve cover. Just used a drill and a bolt extractor. Went really smooth and here are some pictures, although at first it was really hard cause the bolt snapped unevenly.

Update: Tomorrow I0 will be looking at and possibly buying a turbo kit minus the intercooler for $150. I know it seems low but I was talking to the guy and he just wants to get rid of it cause everyone is flaking on him. Garret td40 turbo, greddy manifold, greddy bov, charge piping, and more. I might actually be able to turbo my car for under $500.

Yay!!! turbo kit!!!! Any shaft play in that turbo by chance? $100 is a damn good deal. Also, I am liking that red cone that is attached to the BOV. I have only seen blue (like mine), purple, silver, and black. Is it painted, or is it supposed to be like that? Looks like it is supposed to be that color... I like!
croninc
06-09-2009, 08:42 PM
Thanks a lot, yeah its supposed to be painted like that. Also NO SHAFT PLAY, this was honestly a steal. All that charge piping was ghetto rigged, so im throwing it all out. Prolly will keep the couplers and the little metal things lol totally blanking on there name. Only disappointment is the manifold, but after it gets welded up I think it should be fine, plus I think i might add some reinforcements and use that heat wrap.

edit: Also did some investigating about the manifold and downpipe. XSpower, which is a crappy ebay brand. Im not too worried about the down pipe cause its just a downpipe not really a big deal. The manifold im kinda worried about tho. It already has one nice sized crack. Although its cracked i figure i might as well get it it welded and reinforced and see how it holds up.
edit2: Was looking at some ebay intercoolers and piping. This one looks like the best deal. Its definitly the cheapest and looks the like the piping will be the best fit with minimal cutting. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150351051476&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT

Mini Update:
So cleaned the turbo a little up today, too the downpipe adaptor off, took the oil return flange off and cleaned it up(was really dirty in that area), and took the oil feed like out to clean the area. When i was screwing it back in i stripped the brass adaptor to the oil line, no big deal just have to get a new one, Think i need teflon tape or how ever you spell it to put on there so it doesnt strip again, starting stripping half way down, kinda weird... Also getting kinda worried about my injectors its been over a week and no injectors.....
Also need some advice,
1)Should I paint the hot side of the turbo to clean it up and give it a new look? I was thnking jus flat black.
2)Also should I get this inter-cooler and piping kit? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150347395038&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT The piping doesnt really look like it will fit all that well, so im not sure if I should get it. $125 is such a good deal just need some advice first cause I could go with this one but its a little more but looks like less fab will be needed.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150351051476&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT

From what I've heard the ebay intercoolers and piping arn't too bad. The only negative thing that I have heard is some of them have the fake chrome on the inside of the piping too which comes off very easily....... so ya If you bought it I'd clean that off first so you don't have that **** flying into your intake.

EDIT: I'm almost 100% sure I'm going to sell everything. It sucks but its whats best for me right now. I'm in cvcrc's boat, family and school comes first. A forsale thread will be up soon. I'm not hurting for money so I'll post the forsale thread on HCF first before I let honda-tech gobble it all up lol.
Future plans, consist of finishing up the suspension, and just maintaining the car. I'm not going to see it for my first year of college and the way I see it is, what will be the fun of boosting it and then not being able to use it lol. Plus I dont have the money for when something goes wrong. If I blow the engine I'm screwed. I just want to keep it reliable, yet good looking and fun to drive. I also look at it like this, its a 10+ year old car, not really worth dumping all kinds of money into. Might as well wait and get better car after I graduate school and finish the police academy.

Yeah i did find it. It looks really shinny and smooth, but it has that wrinkly bumpy feel. Paint was still wet when I took the pics. It came out really good imo. I will sand and polish the Honda part tomorrow. Let me kno when you want to come pic it up.

Also just bought a new muffler http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=370226171699 I plan on hidding it behind the bumper, so the muffler cant be seen. I think it will looks sick once i get the correct rear lip.
Hopefully I will have this painted flat black and welded on for the meet. Also about to order some blue valve stems and a lip kit.
