ok so my car is NOT dead since it has power to everything. but when i turn the key all you hear is a loud click from under the hood. the car doesnt start when u turn the key but i can manually crank the motor(push the car then put it in first and pop the clutch) and it runs just fine. my guess is im needing to replace the starter, does anyone have any other ideas of what could be wrong?

 

Have the battery checked/charged -- it may be dead or low. Also clean the battery posts, connectors, and ground wire. Check whether the large black wire connected to the starter is tight and not corroded. Otherwise, as you said, the starter may be bad.

 

well im possitive the battery is not dead because my friend and i even hooked jumpers from his car to mine and all mine did was make that clicking noise again.

 

Be sure the battery connections and starter connections are clean and tight. If so, pull the starter and have it tested at an auto parts store.

 

the connector to the starter looks brand new, and i cleaned the battery posts and checked the ground and everything. im pretty sure my starter is the problem unfortunately.

 

A bad starter switch at the top of the clutch pedal is a common problem, though I didn't mention this as the click sound you hear suggests that the solenoid is getting power through the switch.

 

so what do u think the problem would be? this has never happened to me so what should i check/do/buy?

 

What year Civic?

Pull the starter out and have it tested at an auto parts store. If it's bad, buy a new or rebuilt one and install it.

 

its a 99 ex and im about to go pull it right now and have it tested
