General Civic Talk - black smoke, bad rings?View Full Version : black smoke, bad rings? HondaEGcoupe 06-24-2009, 09:03 AM my 1995 eg started blowing a little bit of smoke the other day and i'm thinking its because of bad rings. anyone know more about this? mk378 06-24-2009, 12:59 PM Black smoke is usually a fuel mixture problem (too rich). Is the CEL on? How much oil does it consume? When the rings are bad you'll be having to add oil every 1000 miles or less. PunisherInOKC 06-24-2009, 01:14 PM Black = ok White =bad. HondaEGcoupe 06-24-2009, 06:45 PM I'm not sure about the CEL and i haven't had to add any oil lately but i believe it does need an oil change. I just got the car not to long ago and was just wondering what it could be churritos567 06-24-2009, 10:11 PM that may gbe the caser or the oil filter gasket may have melted on the block it happened to my 93 civic. i do recommend oil change. What punisher was talkin about white=bad means you have a blown head gasket or possibly your blowing your motor im nopt sure what hes going for. croninc 06-25-2009, 01:16 AM white smoke sometimes means, ur fuel mixture is too lean. HondaEGcoupe 06-25-2009, 08:37 AM i'm pretty sure it's not blowing white smoke and i think the head gaskets fine. it may just be in need of an oil change because its getting somewhat dark churritos567 06-25-2009, 11:16 PM i'm pretty sure it's not blowing white smoke and i think the head gaskets fine. it may just be in need of an oil change because its getting somewhat dark change the oil, if it still blows smoke after an hour then check you air/fuel mixture im not sure how to work with that on pgfi but if it does post it up -churritos HondaEGcoupe 06-26-2009, 09:49 AM hopefully an oil change does it but if not then the air/fuel ratio shouldnt be to hard to figure out... RonJ 06-26-2009, 09:51 AM To learn about the important CEL, click the link in my signature. HondaEGcoupe 06-26-2009, 10:03 AM i will have to check that out when i get home...also i have been debating on puting some sort of exhaust silencer on my car in order to avoid a ticket or attention from cops mk378 06-26-2009, 10:28 AM Check that you turn the key on but not all the way to start, the check engine light should come on for 2 seconds and then go out. If it never comes on, someone has probably disabled the light to conceal a problem. HondaEGcoupe 06-27-2009, 06:11 PM the CEL is always on but i belive that is because of a sensor missing after the engine was swapped |
