Whats up guys. Im gonna say right away this will not be a fast paced project because of how little money i make.
Most of the time ive owned this car i didnt have a job and couldnt find one becuase im only 17.. and becuase i have a little bit of a record. but now i found a job and i get my first pay check this friday.
I will also have ALOT of time to do things to my car now becuase i got into some trouble the other night and cant leave my house.

1996 Honda Civic DX
1.6 SOHC (D16y7)
Automatic (yea i know it sucks)
180,000 miles (still runnin strong)

What i have done to it so far
i havent done much becuase im just gettin started
it had a fart can on it when i got it

Exterior

-Painted my hubcaps black (LOL...told you i make little money)
-Painted the front honda emblem on the grille black
-Accidently put a few dents in... just very very small ones tho
-Back seat 2 windows tinted (not sure what percent)

Interior

-Made it all black, except for the pieces i painted chrome (in my ricer days)
-broke the window handle (tried fixin it a million times but my freinds keep breaking it. i have had problems with the passenger side window coming off track and gettin stuck since ive had the car)

Engine

-Cheap ebay header (nothing wrong with it and works just fine)
-Sort Ram Intake (ebay piping and im gonna buy a good filter in a couple days)
-Painted the valve cover
-cleaned it up a little (it was really nasty when i first got it)

Audio
right now i have 0 speakers in the car becuase my old wallmart ones blew (yea i used to be really bad when it came to cheaping out and ricin my car out)

-Pioneer Cd Player
-2 10" Ultimate subs
-Crappy box
-Jensen 460 watt amp

What i want to do

Exterior

-99-00 50/50 tails
-99-00 si stock spoiler
-Type R lip kit
-nice set of black rims with chrome lip. preferably 16 inch
-finish tint
-OEM headlights tinted
-headlight eye lids
-Get all dents removed
-Re paint

Suspension
i dont know much about suspension so there is only 1 thing i want to get right now.

-Tein S tech lowering springs

Interior

-Leather seats
-new carpet
-new Black headliner
-New steering wheel (its ripped)

Engine

Not much i want to do here becuase its my Daily Driver
-Swap for a B18
-CAI (ebay piping with K&N filter)
-Apexi WS2 exhaust

And MABYE... eventually a Auto to Manual conversion
im debating weither its worth it because i dont really want to turbo this car.

Now i know you all are picture whores so here you go
NONE OF THE DATES ON THESE PICTURES ARE CORRECT
Oldest to newest.
ill go take some brand new pictures once i clean it up

The week i got it

http://i40.tinypic.com/219aq78.jpg

Good news
I got a FREE brand new CV shaft today. How? well i go through this jobs program and they pay for things that i really need, and i work at NAPA auto parts so they just hooked me up free.
It should be here on Friday

Also Gettin new tires tomorrow and an allignment.

Then on friday im gonna get a nice filter becuase mines all burnt somehow.

Haha i remember you cutting the springs :D Can't wait till it's done right, looks pretty sick lowered

Dont feel too bad about the "rice" stuff lol. I think all of us have gone through it. The only reason my cars isn't riced out is because i had no money and i was so scared to do anything even halfway permanent to my car.....it took me like month to work up the courage to paint my tails with VHT  I definitely wanted to "rice it out" for a while though...

Justin13
06-24-2009, 06:30 PM
Haha yea im very, very, very, glad I didn't have a job in my rice days. My car would be destroyed.
I need to get the interior back to stock. What I have painted in the interior is.
-guage housing bezel thing
-door handle housing
-little holders in the door

Should I paint them flat black or just buy new ones?

I can't do the brake fluid trick becuase I sanded everything down before I painted it.

Sigracer10
06-24-2009, 06:58 PM
for those interior panels go out to a junk yard and try to find them first. i have had to go buy a few panels over the years and always pay much less than if i had to buy new.

but if that fails then just get new ones from hondaautomotiveparts.com. By the way "classy gray" is the dark gray interior.

Justin13
06-24-2009, 07:01 PM
i went through all the junk yards around here and they only have old ass hatchbacks. there arent many coupes like mine in my area

Justin13
06-25-2009, 08:43 PM
So today I took apart my whole interior becuase it needed a deep clean. There was also pieces of glass everywhere under the back seats and behind the interior panels, so im thinking this car was in an accident maybe?

I also got the goo off where it said Civic and DX. Looks much better. I used some stuff my dad brought home from work in a clear bottle saying "Cleaner"... I tested it out in the trunk to see if it would take off the paint and it didnt at all.

I didn't get any pictures of the interior becuase I don't want anyone to see it untill I get rid of all the chrome but here are before and after of the trunk.

Update

so i got my new cv driveshaft today and i opend it to look at it and it looks way too long. is the left front shaft longer then the right one? (dumb question)

also i dont care what you guys say i bought a muffler TIP today that is like 3" wide becuase my stock muffler is so gay. it makes the back of my car look really really good especially becuase i got the goo of from debadging. ill get some pictures up tomorrow. no sunlight and my garage is too small to get a pic of the back. yea its a small garage but only because of the 20 toolboxes and welder and a bunch of metal workin machines that is taking up alot of space.

Sorry for all of the miss spellings and no punctuation... kinda stoned
GOT PAID TODAY!!!

Superfly
06-26-2009, 11:32 PM
Ah i hate the stock tip.....it's like 1/4" across :(

Justin13

and its brown... wtf

Justin13
06-27-2009, 11:00 AM
Going to get new tires in about 15 min, and allignment.

So here are pics of the back now that I got the goo off and the tip on.
The tip isn't completely on yet I just slid it on there to take a couple pictures. Ill put it on completely when I get home from getting tires.

My car is kinda dirty right now, but I don't have time to clean it.

Update

so i got my new cv driveshaft today and i opend it to look at it and it looks way too long. is the left front shaft longer then the right one? (dumb question)

yes the driver side axle shaft is longer then the passenger. Unlike B series engines, the D series do not have an intermediate shaft. So the driver side axle goes from the hub all the way to the trans.

Justin13
06-27-2009, 12:35 PM
Thank you so much 315 Customs for answereing that question. I was so damn worried. Big weight lifted off my shoulders.

Yes I agree the tip makes it look WAY better. It isn't permenant, but for now it looks better. Also its too wide to clamp onto the stock pipe so ill have to figure something out. My dad is amazing with metal work so he could figure something out.

Grr my parents are takin forever to get ready to leave to get tires... PITA parents...

06-27-2009, 02:07 PM
glad to see you back, as far as the interior id spray them black until you find stock ones. Its starting to look respectable I'm glad you took the goo off. You might think of taking the hubcaps off and riding steelies

Superfly
06-27-2009, 03:20 PM
I dunno, the hubs kinda look cool lol

Justin13
06-28-2009, 11:08 AM
Finally I got new tires, and it is so much better. The ride quality and everything is better. Im gonna wash it and take a bunch of pictures soon.

Kanarrjl I was thinking of painting my steelies gunmetal and gettin rid of the hubbies

Edit: It was $250 for 4 new tires by the way. Incase anyone was wondering.

So today I tryed the brake fluid trick and OMFG it works AMAZING.
So far I have taken the paint off this thing that goes around the cd player, and this thing behind the e-brake.
I just have to buy more brake fluid, and use it to get the paint off the guage bezel, door handle housings, sun visor mirriors, and little holders in the door panel. Then my interior is DE-RICED.

If you swapped motors why wouldn't you just put in a manual trans with it?

Motor swap wouldn't happen for atleast another year. If I have the money for it I definately will.

What kind of tires are they?

$250 is kind of a ripoff for 185/60(?)/14 tires

Justin13
06-29-2009, 08:56 AM
Well I had them put a tire on a spare Honda rim off my brothers old car... just incase

Justin13
06-29-2009, 09:24 AM
I took a little money out and bought some interior cleaner stuff. It works amazingly. Leaves a bright slick shine, and isn't too gooey.
Once I finish de-ricing my interior I will get some pictures up.

Justin13
06-29-2009, 05:48 PM
Dropped it off at allignment shop today, and I wont get it back untill tomorrow. :(

Question: After gettin allignment im going to put on the new cv shaft (haven't had time), my question is will that mess up the allignment again?

chandler583
06-30-2009, 04:35 PM
No, I do not believe that changing the CV joint will mess with the alignment. You are replacing the axle and it is the same as the old one, just not wore out inside. You are fine.

WellFedHobo
06-30-2009, 04:56 PM
I would think you'll need an alignment because you're pulling the knuckle off the axle and everything to get to it. We had to get an alignment on my friend's Civic when we replaced one of his. Otherwise it would have been bad.

xsteinbachx
06-30-2009, 05:54 PM
Anything you do suspension wise will need an alignment. I'd consider taking out a CV joint a good reason to get an alignment. You should have installed the CV joint first IMO avoided doing it twice. Think twice buy once.

well just dont tell them you replaced the cv joints or w/e your installing. Any suspension work will usually require an alignment. But hey if it drives strait!!!! lol

I've been told that you don't need an alignment after an axle change.

And I don't see why you would... it's not like you're altering the ride height or messing with the tie rods.

Alright thanks.

Today I met this kid thats 17, he drives a 1998 (i think) Eclipse GS. It is by far the cleanest stock eclipses' I have ever seen. Its white, and he took off the stock wing, rebuilt the motor and tranny. Other then that it's completely stock. Not 1 dent or scratch. (kinda makes me wanna get one)
He knows quite a bit about hondas becuase we talked about our cars.

i still gotta replace my passenger axle shaft also. im shocked ive been driving the car for about 8months and so far still no clicking with the outter boot busted and grease everywhere.LOL

Torn boot at the wheel hub area. I'm just gonna replace both though since i'll be boosting.

Justin13
07-03-2009, 10:18 PM
I figured alot of hondas had problems with the CV driveshaft topic

addiction2bass
07-04-2009, 08:02 AM
its not really a big problem.... if people actually just replaced the boots when they busted then they would probably last a long time BUT the cost of a new boot and grease.... well its just better to go ahead and get a new one for a few bucks more. ;)

i think its the mainly on the weather changes that makes the boots tear and once it has a tiny tear its going to keep going all the way around. :( im shocked mine hasnt started clicking yet. all the grease has been gone for quite a long time now.LOL no telling if it broke in the accident or if it was already popped before then. ive been putting it off every payday since its not poping yet. when ever i hear it click then ill replace it. im to lazy to replace something that doesnt quite need it yet.

Updates.

Few days ago I was making a U turn and all the sudden my car made some bad noises and it wouldnt shift into any gear.

Figured out it was the cv shaft that poped out of place due to it not being in all the way. Put it in all the way and its good now.

Also I decided its time to get rid of the gay hubbies... and paint my steelies haha.

Before

reaper2022
07-20-2009, 04:02 PM
I was under the impression you really can't put centercaps on a steel wheel; doesn't the hub stick through the center of the wheel where a centercap would normally go?

And you know you want to paint the hub caps hot pink and throw 'em on there. Do it :D

(and honestly, your transmission problem... I'd have never guessed CV shaft (well, without looking at the car anyway).)

ya i know.... its not a big deal. it was just a extra vehicle. and i had to much extra debt to keep dealing with. i got 2,800 for it without my bass setup so i think i still made some money off the civic but i havent ran all the numbers of the build...

im shocked no one has ever tried to steal it! but most the time the battery is dead already. lol but i do have a little alarm on it and i put on some power locks on the car also. not the best but works just fine as long as the latches are lubed well.
the color is a Chrysler viper blue pearl. tho it is about ready for a new paint job. i painted it ruffly 13years ago so its starting to have a few rust bubble spots. but either way its fully insured ;)

Found someone selling center caps for $25 They're all chrome, but you could paint the background behind the H black if you want. Use chapstick to cover the "H" and the other parts that don't get painted.

Update.

My passenger side window crank broke a long time ago. My friends decided to use a plires to roll it up and down and stripped the living shiit out of it.

Here is what it looks like

So my dad is a metal working genious and I told him to see what he can come up with.
He measured everything out with a calipers and came home from work with this.
It was silver but I painted it black.

It's not the same as the other crank, but it is 100x better then not being able to roll down the window in summer, with no a/c.

If someone needs something metal made. Brackets, or whatever it is. Tell me and I will see what my dad can come up with. I even challenge him sometimes on making things and he always makes it perfect.
