Welp, I suppose it’s time for another build thread. This is going to be the second car I own (which, I don’t actually have. I know it’s going to be a 1999-2000 Civic EX 5spd 2dr in either silver or black). The first few weeks of updates will consist of pictures of stripping the car. I was in an accident and the car was totaled, pics are here: http://www.hondacivicforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=76548. My first car (the one being stripped) is a 1997 4dr EX 5spd. It had the stock D16Y8 with ARP head studs. There was a GReddy 15g turbo on it, tuned at 10psi by John Kerr of j-k-tuning.com at Innovative MotorWorks. It made 202whp/185wtq. Most of you are familiar with my first thread following my turbo progress, found here: http://www.hondacivicforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=67117. Anyway... here are the plans for the new civic:

Drop on koni yellows and ground controls
Rebuild one of the D16Y8's with new seals/gaskets and swap into the new civic along with the turbo setup
Minor wire tuck
3" exhaust with test pipe
OEM 99-00 Si lip color matched and a 99-00 Si grill color matched-Bought
OEM foglights-Bought
Spray paint the FMIC-Doing
New oil drain line kit

Just keep in mind that this is what I would like to have done in the next month. I will keep the other D16Y8 to build for more boost. This will probably take a while to strip at first. I can't stand for more than 15 min because of my back and I am starting physical therapy on July 3rd.

God that's nothing!!! Very nice :) Not sure how it works, but insurance pays you what the car is supposedly worth right? and then you get the option to buy it from them?

Welp, here's pictures from yesterday. Got a lot of the interior ripped out so I can trace the wires for my gauges and turbo timer to pull them out. I dont have pics of the pulled fuel pump yet since my camera battery died, give me till tomorrow or later tonight for that. I've been ripping out stuff to paint because come swap time, I'd like to just rip the old out and put the new painted one in. Im also cleaning up some things.

you should also take off the cat converter. good for anyone looking to remove there DX ugly cat.

GReddy_Civic
07-06-2009, 01:42 PM
wrong...the part where it goes over the axle is semi-crushed...had a kid who wanted to buy it too :| I might see if he'd buy it for a lower price...since its stainless...a muffler shop SHOULD be able to recreate that section and weld it in and then itd be mint again. And yea, im taking the cat off. I have the stock EX manifold as well if someone wanted an EX exhaust. Like i said, Im going 3" exhaust....if I can create a DP then itll be turbo-back otherwise, itll just be DP-back

addiction2bass
07-06-2009, 04:09 PM
o ok... doesnt look damaged from that picture. but if it is tweaked a muffler shop should have no problem simply bending it back close to shape or just let it hang down alittle bit. its not that big of a difference im sure hed still buy it.

Anyway...my arms look like an emo had a field day with them, my feet hurt, and I'm pretty angry. But the motor is out. I might take a day or two off. So after getting most of the mount bolts out...We figured out that because I didn't have enough chain to wrap around the intake manifold, just that little bit of weight was tilting the motor backwards...sooooooooooo extension cord to the rescue! and yes...it worked. :D

07-10-2009, 07:24 PM
so i found out that I need high temp paint for the intercooler...shoulda figured. Anyway, I decided to go ahead and paint my hood latch (if you look in my sig, the hood latch and 2 bolts holding the intercooler on are visible(and the bolts will be painted too)) also decided to paint my wipers, and the batter tray and the battery mount. There's a lot of other things that need done as well, just not today. I ended up prepping for 2 hrs and then 2 coats of primer on everything. So I just put the first coat of paint on.

what i used when i pulled and pulled my EG civic motor was the chains as well as 2 small ratchet tie downs. those help alot for twisting and turning the motor really easy by just tightening them down. if that helps ya out any to reinstall it in the new ride. it seemed to help me alot even with a engine ballancer thing on the engine hoist.

GReddy_Civic
07-12-2009, 06:28 PM
Well surprisingly it worked very well. It kept the engine from tilting backwords and even with pulling the tranny and shift linkage (I got a punch stuck in the bitch pin) after having everything unhooked, the motor came out VERY easy

at least you have a full backup so simply gut the car and swap harnesses for the easiest manual swap.

;) i dusted my black civic every day right after i got off work or if i drove it home i dusted it again. i loved the black civic but dusting it all the time was defiantly a change from a green truck i had before! i just hope that color gunmetal isnt as bad as cleaning.. kinda a mix of silver and black. my silver never really needs cleaned so im hoping for a easy upkeep look myself.

good luck with the wire swap but i dont think you really have to swap everything. just swap the column and the rest you can just splice in freely. hell you got both cars so should be very easy really. most of the swap just involves finding parts and you got it all!

how much more is the 5speed? it would be alot easier to swap your goodie parts into thats for sure so IMO it would be worth maybe 500more just not to mess with the wiring. plus youd have a extra tranny just incase, definatly a plus. you know the automatic would just be sold or junked. ;)

is that just fiberglass in the pics? thats what it looks like but i can't really tell

reaper2022
07-24-2009, 01:20 PM
Yup, fiberglass. Takes literally about an hour from start to finish (not including pulling the bumper off, painting, and reinstalling) and the sanding's not bad. Really, I didn't need that much fiberglass on it, but I like overkill.

It's one of those tiny subtle mods that you notice something's different about the car but can't figure out what. And with the ej1, clean was the name of the game ('cept the calipers. I never got around to re-painting them flat black) :D

no theyll be painted. Im tryin to find out if my 4dr ones are the same length because ill just use those. So fogs are on. And coilovers ordered (wont be here for 2ish weeks because of the custom spring rates) and while putting on the fogs, realized i didnt get the fog light switch so the circuit cant be completed. Hence they dont actually work. Since it's all plug and play, they SHOULD work and theyre in. ill get pics then. O! and I went in to honda and they said itll be about 4 days to get the switch in :|

its been alright marcus. i rub front when in sharp turn but ur usual turn (ie from a stop sign) is fine. and turbo00ek, do you have alot of empty space in your head? first off, if u had read thread, ud see im gonna REBOOST, and the most convincing info showng youre mentally damaged is my sig. it was a greddy turbo with a greddy catback

reaper2022
08-09-2009, 05:50 PM
He doesn't actually read threads, nor does he do anything that doesn't enlarge his ego (hey guys, look how much I know! Look what I've built in my past! Look how much power I'm making in a FF car that's completely unstreetable at that level!). Remember what he did in my mustang project thread, how he called me out for breaking the rules with a non-civic thread? You know, the same thread that over half the staff posted in, not one of whom complained about it being technically against the rules? The one whose position in the project section was the product of a staff member, since the original thread was in OT? Yeah, that thread.

Anyway, trent, expect to rub around ridiculously sharp slow turns (turning right at a stop light), and when you make a relatively sharp slow turn and hit a bump/pothole/whatever. It's the price you pay for tucking tire up front.

Also, sorry I stopped replying to your texts. My phone died and I'm at my sister's apartment stealing her interwebz right now. Anyway, like I said, your friend's car probably has bad spark plug tube seals, which would be ridiculously cheap at autozone (valve cover gasket cheap), or it's just the PCV system pushing oil back up to the intake along with the blowby gases, which would then lightly coat the plugs. Other (less likely) possibilities are valve guides going bad and rings going bad. I'd put my money on tube seals or it being a normal condition from the PCV system though.

haha i really was kinda kidding about the "what i wanted". Around here, my insides would be MUSH. I think the front needs just a TAD lower yet. and i gotta dial in the koni stiffness, right now its way too bouncy. Trent, are the front perches wound down all the way? If they are and you want the front lower, keep in mind the flipped perch trick I was telling you about. I don't know what to tell you about the rear, though... I don't know of any tricks to get the rear lower yet.

And I'm with plethoric about painting the skirts. I was actually telling josh that I thought you should yesterday. Ish looks great though :D

reaper2022
08-10-2009, 04:39 PM
I've told you before. It better d*mn well be used to dial in more negative camber so you can drop the front even more. And I'd drop it a tiny bit more. As it is, you're tucking tire but just barely; one of my biggest regrets with my civic was not lowering it even more (then again, I had a hell of a time getting it on the alignment rack at the height it was at lol).

And I believe the coupe/sedan skirts are different, but I'm not 100% on it. I'd say I'm about 95% confident, but with no hands-on experience.

addiction2bass

you mean finger gaps clearance from the ground?
if so youll want to make some slits in the guards otherwise if you go over a speed bump the CUP shape will try to rip itself off. i cut two slits with a razor blade one on each side so it would simply fold back and pop back just fine.

well once my upper control arms come in, its being dropped another inch or so. So they would most likely be on the ground

addiction2bass

o well putting the slits on them wont stop them from being ground down BUT it will help them from getting ripped off... you know they are only held in by 3 screws with plastic square clips. i didnt want to rip mine off and be without them.

and the splash guards might not look very good BUT they do help keep the sides cleaner with all that thrown up dirt! the rear not so much at all. but the front helps the most.
