"With only a mere 150whp and running on 94 octane we ran 12.6's @ 105mph. Not too bad for a stock 1.6L SOHC engine."

saw this one recently. streetsniper and I were talking about this in another thread, I thought it was worthy of being posted in here. id say its a pretty impressive testament for what aerodynamics and weight reduction (and probably a new transmission) can do for your quarter mile time. anyway, it also gives a lil hope to those sohc owners out there.

yes thats exactly what i was telling streetsniper. it is possible. i mean it is probably nearly a quarter of what your car weighs. so if you had a motor proportional to the weight reduction, you could run the same time with a lil more than a quarter of the horsepower you were pushing on the v8. and i think that is exactly what they have done. anyway, if you look at the pic on the link it tells you a lil about the car and the 12 sec run. you can see by the pic it is completely prepped for drag racing, i'm sure the body is just a fiberglass shell. the whole thing with driver is probably just over a 1000 lbs.

I looked all over that entire site and nowhere did I find how much it weighed. I guess that's a trade secret. It can't be more than 1500 lbs. though.
Hey Freaky, did you see my response about No Problem?

yeah, i definitely want to go to No Problems, thats like an hour from my house. i am doing nothing but working on the car this weekend, i have never changed a head gasket before so i'm a lil gun shy, but i think i should be done this weekend. then i can test out my drop zone cheap suspension and factory brakes at the autox. cant wait.

What did u drive that was 3700lbs (my friend's van weighs about the same), seems like really heavy for a civic.

i have a 1983 dodge that weighs a bit over 3700 with me in it, and last year it ran 12.60s....it is getting some minor work, and some major work, and before it is re-streeted here in MI (its not legal in PA) my dad plans on getting it into the 11s...
my "police interceptor" is a dodge stratus RT coupe. i also have a dodge truck, and a turbo daytona, which is in the process of being worked on, but its my first turbo car...and ive always been a V8 guy...but as im sure you can tell, im not your "typical V8 guy", since i have a great deal of appreciation for imports.
weight can be just as important as power. How do u think my bike is test at 11.2 to 11.5 stock with 115ish hp? with rider, gas, and bike weight it's about 550lbs. wish my civic could be that fast with 105hp. hah

Hey guys Scott here from AllMotorSOHC.com. The car weight is 1625lbs with me in it. A video of one of my 12's runs can been seen here Video (http://www.allmotorsohc.com/gallery/album04). If anyone has any other questions about the car I'll do my best to answer them.

pretty cool that you actually joined this forum and congratulations on a job well done with that civic. now, I'm just curious what material you've been using for body panels, and what did you do to the chasis in terms of weight reduction. If that is a secret, I understand. I'm just really curious, because I've never seen anything similar before.

My civic is a VX. The only thing that is fibreglass is the one piece front end. The doors are still the metal doors, just cut out all the insides. You also have to keep in mind that a DOHC engine is a lot heaviver than a SOHC engine. Also I have about a total of 8-10 wires in the whole car. Since I am running carbs, no computer, no wiring harness. The back of the hatch was all cut out and replaced with aluminum. Lexan windows and that's about it. I could still lose about 80lbs or so if I replace the rea-end of the car by goiing to a straight axle. Maybe someday since I have no more money.... I've attached some old pictures I hope they help to se the insides of the car.
