History: I purchased my 1994 Honda Civic DX at the end of 2008 for $1600. It needed some work here and there and I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do until I fixed what was broken or done wrong by the previous owner. Soon after I bought the car I was hit by a hit and run driver who messed up the hood and front right fender, so I replaced those along with the dented front left fender that was there when I bought it. It has 181K miles with the original D15b7 motor. I have a lot of plans and change my opinion almost every day, so expect a lot of changes on my modification plans. I am very open to opinions or suggestions whether they are good or bad. Will add more pictures as i progress. Thanks.

I do have to admit you sure do have alot of stuff you want to buy. I do have one small suggestion, you say you want to get Tokico shocks. Tokico makes an "Advanced Handling" kit that comes with Tokico shocks with springs. Its about a 1.5inch drop in the front and 1.25inch in the rear. You can find a kit on Ebay NIB for about $400. I've heard very good reviews about it. Just something to think about. When you gonna get this dam thing painted? I'm tired of those black fenders.

Oh believe me I disgust myself everytime I look at the car! Oh yeah! Thanks for reminding me I was gonna ask everyone on here whether that kit with the tokico lowering springs is worth it? I know the shocks have good reviews but i was wondering about the springs. Thats about the drop I'm looking for but I'm not cheaping out on suspension. If they are OK then I will save and get something better.
Back to the paint, I'm afraid to have it done for cheap so I'm trying to save to make sure I get a good paint job. It is coming soon hopefully.

The only thing i saw on you list of stuff that I would be weary about is the Blox LCAs. I have heard mixed opinions of them for as long as I have heard of them. The biggest complaint being that the bushing wear out pretty quick. I would recommend looking into the skunk2 LCAs. They are urethane bushings so they will go nicely with your Energy suspension kit.
As for springs my recommendation for something that match up with tockico HPs would be Eibach Pro Kit springs. The drop 1.4F/1.2R. I have heard a lot of good things about this combo. If you want to go a little lower, then you could get the Sportline springs. The drop 1.6 F&R but they are going to have a higher spring rate and you would need to upgrade to a little higher quality adjustable shock to complement them

I thought the Energy Suspension Kit included rear LCA bushings? Thats why I don't mind getting blox lca's

Oh ok i didn't realize you were going that route. but before you do that I would make sure that the bushings will even fit in the Blox control arms. The bushings that come with the energy suspension kit are designed to fit an oem LCA and may be a slightly different size than the ones in the Blox LCA. If there is the smallest difference in size of the bushings, they will not work.
Plus getting the bushings out of the Blox and putting in the urethane is going to be a huge PITA. So to me thats worth the little extra to buy some LCAs that already have urethane in them.
I have an energy suspension kit on my car, and I will probably never screw with bushings ever again because they suck to put in.

I see, well that's good to know. the skunk2 lcas are appealing and I have been thinking about them. I most likely will because I'm lazy when it comes to stuff like that. lol

Well wait a few weeks for me to get my Tokicos on and I'll tell you how they are. Make sure you do your homework before doing this. You really need to decide what is practical and will work. Have you taken into consideration speed bumps? Hilly driveways? This is something to think about when you have a lower car. I had to measure my car to make sure it will clear my driveway (on a hill) and I'll be clear by about 1.25 inchs. Kinda close if you ask me. You also have a front lip, you don't want to tear that thing off if you it a curb when you're parking. Just something to think about. I'd say 1.5inch is good, but you do have smaller wheels than me, so you might be able to get away with a little more. But i really wouldn't push it past 2inch.
Lewy2k
08-06-2009, 08:06 PM
No I want about an inch and a half. Two at the most. There are too many things I would hit if it was lower than that. Are you getting the kit with the springs and shocks?
Brick
08-06-2009, 08:12 PM
Yup, getting it tomorrow night hopefully. I get paid so the money is going in the bank and I'm ordering them from Ebay that night when it clears. I'm gonna get the springs and shocks kit. Then its trailing arm bushings and possibly LCAs (brand idk yet). Those will be later on. I'm just getting the parts together now.

So I did some asking around today and found out my best friends dad has everything needed to paint a car since he paints/restores motorcycles and offered to help and let me use all the equipment to paint my car. In this case it would cost MUCH less to paint the car and anything decent looking is better then what I have now. That way the rest of my money can go to suspension and other modifications. Hope fully I can get this thing painted by the end of the month.

In the process of making my own ground wire as well.
Buying stuff to paint the car in about 10 days, got a Rockford Fosgate Punch P3S 12" sub from a friend and am getting a JBL 500W amp for $30 soon.
Bolting the new sub to the back seat with the amp. :D

does it handle any different?
Lewy2k
09-02-2009, 12:12 PM
Well it was a camera phone and I dont think I let it focus all the way.
I drove it to a friends and didnt really try to corner hard but I guess you could say it feels like the car is more controlled and safer around corners. Until I lower the car the bars will only do so much.

strut bars definitly help, i noticed it but i had 4 of them lol
Brick
09-02-2009, 01:06 PM
Nice. And definally get some springs to lower it. I just got my Tokicos on last night and it definally rides alot better. Its all nice and fresh. I feel every little bump and everything. The only thing that I dont like at all is that it didn't lower the front at all. Maybe about .5-.75 inches. the rear is lower, about an 1. but the front is still kinda high. I'm hoping it just has to settle some, cause if not, I might be upgrading to something lower.
Lewy2k
09-02-2009, 02:02 PM
I'm facing a dilema with the rear. My sub is bolted to the back seat and interferes with where the rear strut bar has to go by about an inch or two. There isnt really any room to move the sub box up or down so i'm gonna think about things today at work and see what I can come up with.
hamorhead
09-03-2009, 06:30 PM
i have my sub box strapped to my rear strut bar
actually half of the reason i bought the rear strut bar was so my subs would stop sliding
and i stole trustdestructions method of attaching the subs
Lewy2k
09-04-2009, 03:56 PM
I have a semi permanent fix for the sub box. It is pretty secure being against the back seat and under the strut bar. I will attatch it soon when I'm not so lazy.

I didnt mess with the driver side headlight etc. harness, I'll do that later.
Now I need to clean my engine bay and paint that valve cover.
So, my short term goals right now include painting the thing next week, get some fog lights, other small goodies and start on suspension.
Long term goals include finishing suspension by christmas or soon after and begin to build a nice D-series motor. I am being given a jdm d15b head for free so I plan on starting there and building something good for boost or even just N/A. This is more of a thought right now. I just know the d-series motors the best and feel most comfortable with them.

So yesterday I began wetsanding my car and getting everything ready for paint. I'm physically exhausted but I have made a lot of progress. After today I have completed primering/sealing the whole car. Tomorrow consists of a final sanding and the base coat as well as clear. I did run into one obstical, the back pieces of my jdm thin moldings are too short. That leads me to believe they are for a hatch. Even though I know I ordered the correct ones. I am continuing and will order and paint the correct fitting pieces when I recieve them. Other than that the car is coming out great.

Alright, it's done. I am so exhausted I only took one picture with the car semi-cleaned up. More to come. The paint didnt lay completely perfect so after a week or two when the paint cures I will use rubbing compound and make it perfect. I sprayed four final coats and have never been more happy. It looks great for a first time painter (myself).
On another note, I got a new air filter for my CAI since the other one was way too old. I didnt put the type r front lip back on since I was offered a trade for a full Yakima roof rack with bike rail, fairing, etc. It has everything except locks, which I will purchase. Now I need to get an EX lip and those back moldings and I will be completely happy. :D

feel any difference?
Lewy2k
09-23-2009, 09:25 PM
Not really, its one of those things where you think you notice a difference because you want to feel a difference. I noticed the biggest change when I put the strut bars on. Before, when accelerating out of a turn my car had no control and felt like it had no traction. Now its much better and feels controlled throughout the whole turn.

yea installing front and rear strut bars makes a very big difference in handling. i noticed that also when i installed mine for the first time.

Ordered OEM style yellow fog lights and Nokya Cosmic White headlight bulbs should be here by the end of the week or early next week.

Foglights should be here tomorrow. Maybe the headlight bulbs. As for fixing the bumper I'm gonna order a new one and either paint it myself or have it painted to match, the old one is all jacked up where it connects to the fender on the passenger side anyway. I'll make sure and shave the license plate holes again. I have decided I like the look of the way the moldings come from the factory. I think I am going to keep my lip black, paint the molding black and the side skirts. The door handles come black too but I'm not sure whether to paint those or not since it would be kind of a challenge.

If you leave lip black at least paint it please... looks 2x better than exposed plastic...

Well yeah thats what I meant. I just dont know the best way to paint the molding, lip and side skirts. Like what kind of black and to use clear or not?

Had a little bit of trouble with the fogs fitting after they were in the bumper but got some help and got the bumper back on. They look good, I'll have pictures later because if the weather stays nice I plan on buffing the car so it will shine wayyyy more. Hopefully headlight bulbs today also.

Picked up Stu's Poly Motor Mount inserts. My next modifications will include getting new molding, painting the sideskirts and painting the lip. I'll pick up some mudguards if I find a deal as well. Oh yeah, I might get an OEM shift knob for cheap in the next couple days.

One of my good friends is parting out his EG coupe. So I was talking to him and I might take his rear sway bar, I think its from an integra (need to measure), endlinks, possibly the lca's which are either integra OEM or Si OEM. I might take his exhaust that has some type of OEM muffler, I just like how quiet it is. Might as well take it because I'll get them cheap.

I'm looking for an uncut interior harness that plugs into the ECU, cluster and all the jazz. Let me know if he can take that off.

I talked to him and it looks like I can get that when I swap him clusters (my gas guage is broke). Later tonight I might be able to pull it, if not, tomorrow. How much would you offer for it before shipping?

That's one of the things I do want. My exhaust is wayyyy too loud. So until I finish my suspension and such, I want something quieter. I appreciate the idea though.

idk, 40 bucks? I've seen some go for about that on eBay. Just so we're on the same page, I'm talking about almost all the wired behind the dash. The reason I'm looking for this is because when I tuck the engine harness I going to route the wires to 1 mil spec plug and I'll need the wires on the other side to connect to the other side of the plug and it would make life so much easier to do it on a harness out of the car.
So let me know if that's reasonable. Otherwise I'll wait till spring and keep an eye out at the junk yards.
Thanks!!

I talked to him and forty works. I'll try and get it tomorrow or the next day. I'm sick right now so I will see if I can muster the strength to pull that and the stuff I want.

cool cool. I've become real good at removing the EG dash and everything behind it. I takes me 30 minutes to pull everything without breaking a piece now. I did it just for fun at the last junk yard I was at since the ECU plugs were cut off... ...darn yard trolls cutting harnesses!
So, if you're not used to removing all the stuff let me know and I can give you the play by play.

I think I know how but it wouldn't hurt if you gave me some pointers!
I start by removing the driver's kick panel (3 screws) and the reinforcement behind it (2 bolts). Then the center console and the glove box.
Then cluster bezel and cluster. (3 screws, one behind the hazard switch) (4 screws on the cluster)
Then radio and climate controls. I unhook the manual fan speed cable the connects back behind the glove box. (3 screw on the climate controls, 1 center black, and 2 front and an angle)
I there's an airbag I unbolt that sucker and pull it out. (a couple of bolts? 2 maybe 4?)
Then the 4 bolts (5 if you didn't remove the glove box). 1 on each side behind a plastic cover. 1 behind the center console, and 1 below the top center air vent. To be that off easily pull the vent from the side closest to the windshield.
Before pulling out the dash it's a lot easier to lower the steering wheel. There are brackets that have bolts holding the rack up.
I think that everything...

I havent got much done lately because I am in the process of switching jobs, but I did get the ES rear motor mount inserts installed (Thanks Stu). For those of you who dont know how these work, here you go. It wasn't too hard, unbolting the mount and t-bracket was easy.
Here is a picture of the mount
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n268/jj91lewis/IMG00836.jpg
Pressing the inserts in was easy as well.

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n268/jj91lewis/IMG00838.jpg
The hardest part was making sure all the bolts from the tranny to the t-bracket and mount to the t-bracket all lined up perfectly. I could do it in about half the time now that I know what it takes through trial and error.
As far as the cabin noise/vibration, I dont notice much of a difference since a lot of stuff rattles in my car to begin with. The biggest difference is either that you feel the motor as you drive and idle or the fact that my motor moves a fraction as much as it did when I rev it from the outside and watch.

Nice nice. I bet you're enjoying hearing all the new rattling noises because of the solid mounts.
Any word on that interior harness?

I talked to him today and without telling me he sold the car and motor together with the dash and stuff all at once. I was intending on getting it but I had no idea that those were his plans. Sorry about that, although I will keep my eye out for one locally.
