Sorry bout the mixup 2000Si 08-09-2004, 08:56 AM You'll see minimal gains, as the y8 is only a sohc vtec motor. I think from around 108 to 127 hp... but gains are gains. corner 08-09-2004, 08:58 AM What if I get an exhaust system, and cold air, at the same time that I do the swap. all together that could be over 40hp gain. am I correct, or just dreaming? 2000Si 08-09-2004, 09:00 AM sure the exhaust and intake will flow slightly better, but you still have restrictions, TB, Intake mani, header, cat. If you want some serious power from a D series your best bet is to swap the head, get a better header, racing/straight thru cat, 2.5" catback exhaust and then head on over to edelbrock.com and get the D series turbo kit... Part # 1500 I believe. CARB/50 State legal turbo kits include EVERYTHING you need. corner 08-09-2004, 09:03 AM I am a little short for cash rite now. I don't think the turbo is going to come rite now. I don't have the money to buy one. But if I put a VTEC head, header, catback exhaust, and cold air. How much power u think I could get? 2000Si 08-09-2004, 09:05 AM d16y7= 106 hp d16y8= 127 hp So you'll get that 11 hp from the headswap, and the header/exhaust/intake MIGHT net you 10 hp... and I stress that it MIGHT net that, as I can't guarantee it. The Key word here will be Tuning. corner 08-09-2004, 09:08 AM 106 to 127 is 21, but whatever. so I'm not going to get much hp for the money I'm spending then. What else would you suggest I do so that I can have a decent amount of power without paying an arm and a leg 2000Si 08-09-2004, 09:22 AM Check out the other thread, 200 hp from a B18c Type R for 4200 plus shipping... seems to be a pretty good deal to me. sacicons 08-09-2004, 03:48 PM a general rule is about $100 per HP. if you can get 21+ HP out of $500, go for it. the edelbrock turbo kit goes for about 3500-3900. i know what its like to not be able to drop 4200 bucks on a motor. it took me like two years to finally get my b16a. I looked into the mini-me swap and its not just an add vtec thing. it actually raises compression over that of the stock vtec, so you can expect about 130hp. go with the d16y8 head, intake manifold, and ecu. the y8 has a better chamber design than the z6. as well as the IM flowing the best of all SOHC manifolds. then you can also get the aftermarket stuff for the vtec head later on. if you really want some power, take the vtec head to a good sport compact shop and send it off to get it milled, they cut the bottom of the head down to decrease the volume of the chamber, which increases compression further. tell them you want to get to about 10.5:1 compression. then you will need to get an adjustable cam gear and get it tuned on a dyno. milling the head will change the angle on the cam gear, so it will run really poorly W/O tuning. then only run premium gas, as the high compression will cause detonation w/o it. niteryder 08-09-2004, 03:57 PM yo corner where u from? cuz i know a place where u can get swaps for really really good deals corner 08-13-2004, 06:36 AM I'm from Manitoba Canada 2000Si 08-13-2004, 10:55 AM ORIGINAL: corner 106 to 127 is 21, but whatever. so I'm not going to get much hp for the money I'm spending then.
