07' EX getting 31mpg avg 80%highway20%city WTF!
what is going on i am way less than impressed with these numbers, it is mainly highway driving.... why am I getting such horrible numbers you think? also does it hurt/help the mpg and engine for it to drink 93 or 91 octane? i know some motors it can actually gunk em up if they are meant for 87 or so. Any help with mpg would be great since i am supposed to be getting 38-40 highway
thanks,

your milage will get better with time my 06 accord didn't start getting good milage til it reached 3,000 miles. if your civic doesn't start getting better milage i'd take it back to thedealer and tell them

hey civicn33b, calm down.
you have to properly break your engine in to the manufacturers specs and then drive like a sane person for a few thousand miles before you can expect sticker mileage.
i got 40 and 30 as advertised after i broke my EX in.
but then i started lead-footing it and the mileage went out the window...
btw, use the recommended octane rating in your car which is regular unleaded. that way if something goes wrong, honda can't blame you for it.

My 06 Civic Coupe now has 21,000 miles on it and I am getting about 35 -38 in city driving. The lowest I have got so far was about 32.
I found some tips to help get better gas mileage consistantly.
1. Drive at a steady speed. Accelererating to go flying past a car makes the mileage drop. Yea, I lost mileage doing that but I love the thrill.
2. When someone is getting on the freeway, don't speed up to get ahead of them, take your foot off the gas and let the other car get on ahead of you or change lanes if possible. What,...... you may lose 2 seconds, but you'll noticea gainin mileage.
3. Don't accelerate hard. Avoid jack rabbit starts. I like how the car jumps up to 75 or 80 but bynot accelerating so fast keeps the gas mileage up above the 36 mpg range.
4. When you start the car in the morning, don't let it sit there and idle. Drive it slowly and it will warm up within a couple of miles. The newer carscan be driven slowly as they warm up since the motor oil is thinner and not needed to be warmed up to get all the parts lubricated.
My Civic temp guage usually gets to 2 squares before I get on the freeway which is a half mile from my house and then I just keep the speed at the speed limit until it is completely warmed up and then keep the car at as close to the speed limit as possible.
Hope this helps.

RE: 07' EX getting 31mpg avg 80%highway20%city WTF!
I have a 2007 Civic LX coupe that is about 6 months old and has just under 5000 miles. I have noticed that I am not getting the mileage that was advertised on the sticker and was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problem. Previously, I had a 2000 Civic EX coupe, bought new and kept for 6 years with a little over 100k miles and it got pretty much the mileage that was advertised on the sticker, so I don't believe it's my driving habits. I might also add that before taking delivery on my current Civic, I drove a brand new one, exactly the same as my current one, except for color, and though I only put about 500 miles on it before taking delivery on the one I own now, it experienced the same milelage that I'm getting on this one. The best thatI getin the city is about 26-28 mpg and on the highway about 35-37mpg. I fill it up each time, righ to the brim, so that I see fuel starting to pool just short of spilling out the filler tube. What I have noticed is that if I just run a full tank down only a few gallons, the actual mileage figures are even worse. I only actually get the above figures whan I get close to an empty tank. Is anyone else experiencing any problems like this?
