Default 1995 Civic advice

I have a chance to buy a 1995 Civic DX with an automatic transmission a 4-Cyl. 1.5 Liter 16V Engine with 173,000 miles from the 2nd owner for $2500. No leaks and according to the ownewr allneeded maintance has been done on time. I need advice from Civic experts on what you think of this particular age and reliability and any other information you could share. It will be used as a commuter car to work and back (100 miles round trip). I can do minor repairs like brakes, tune ups, etc.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

if everything has been done on time as he says it should be fine. get details as to what parts those were that he is talking about. look for rust in rear quarter panels.
nothing wrong with a 13 year old car, as long as it's a honda. and yea it should be reliable if stuff has been taken care of as the owner claims

170000 is pretty high, but its a honda so if it was well taken care of it will pass 200000 miles easily. and you will love the gas sipping engine

if you drive 100 miles to and from work, i might start looking for a hybrid or something with the gas the way it is right now.

From what he's looking at buying, it sounds like he needs an inexpensive car. Hybrids are definitely not cheap.

And if you really want really good gas mileage on a cheap car, look into a 92-95 CX Hatch, or a 96-00 HX Coupe. However, all the Honda Civics get good gas mileage, those are just the best on gas from 92-00.

Yes I would love a Hybrid but I do not want to spend that kind of coin I just want something to drive back and forth to work that wont leave me stranded in some pretty rough areas of Phoenix. I also have to be able to work on it if needed. Does anyone have agood web site/ book that would show me how to do a tune up and change the timing belt?

Thanks for your help!
