Default 2000 civic timing belt/water pump ?

i got a 2000 ex coupe 5 speed with 89,000 miles.

just got my genuine honda timing belt/water pump, and belts in the mail today to replace this spring.

How hard is it to replace these....My brother did his on his 1998 crv and i was just curious how tight everything is underneath the hood and how hard it is to do? He will be doing it, l not me.

thanks.

jeremy

p.s. should i really replace the belt tensioner also or is that not necessary?

Removing the crankshaft pulley bolt is the most difficult part of the job. You need either a very good impact wrench or a special hex tool and a couple of long breaker bars to get it loose.

I'd recommend replacing the tensioner as well.

+1, that bolt that holds on the crankshaft pulley is a pain is the @$$, go to autozone and rent a really good air compressor, you will need this.

^i have a pretty nice air compressor and impact wrench, and it wouldn't get the bolt loose. my neighbor's impact wouldn't get it either.

also, i live in FL and we don't have road salt so it would likely have been worse in a different state.

i ended up buying the tool on ebay and a breaker bar, extension, and jack stand

i put my weight into it in one big attempt to turn the bar and the bolt busted right loose.

i recommend the tool, as the impact wrench might not be enough to get it off, whereas the tool should be foolproof.

definitely replace the tensioner.
