Default 2006 Si: Someone's made a formal complaint...

First, let me say that I've no agenda regarding this issue, and don't even own an '06 Si (I own an '06 Civic LX sedan). So what I'm posting is "just the facts" while remining totally netural.

Seems that someone has made a formal complaint to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ("Our mission: Save lives, prevent injuries, reduce vehicle-related crashes") about the 2006 Civic Si's hanging on to motor revs when you lift off the gas pedal.

Or as one '06 Si owner puts it: "In trafic when you lift off the gas pedal the car keeps the current speed instead of slowing down for at least 1sec. So I dont consider that i'm controlling the engine. The ECU is...it aint the DBW, it is the ECU programming which is at fault." However, he goes on to say that he loves his 2006 Si. :-)

While the March 2006 issue of Car and Driver magazine, in it's "comparo" with the VW GTI, called the issue "trivial," at least one person apparently disagrees. Note that, from my understanding, this is a consumer complaint only, and does not mean there is any saftey defect whatsoever.

A search of consumer complaints at the NHTSA "Office of Defects Investigation" site reveals:

"Make : HONDA
Model : CIVIC
Year : 2006
Manufacturer : HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)
Crash : No
Fire : No
Number of Injuries: 0
ODI ID Number : 10154258
Number of Deaths: 0
Date of Failure: March 28, 2006
VIN : Not Available
Component: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
Summary: ALL 2006 HONDA CIVIC SI MODELS CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 SECOND(S) AFTER CLOSING THE THROTTLE. THIS PROGRAMMED "REV HOLDING" COMPROMISES THE ABILITY TO SAFELY CONTROL THE CAR AND STOP IT. THIS IS A DRIVE-BY-WIRE ISSUE THAT MUST BE FIXED. *JB"

Just thought it worth mentioning.

Regards,

Yeah I've noticed that on my car...especially when in stop and go traffic. Now that I'm aware of it I just push in the clutch I'm hoping Hondata will fix the issue when they come out with something for the new Si.

^I'll agree with that but there are some good things about it...none of which matter to me.
