Question 30+ year old honda purchase, need your advice

Hi,

I'm not sure if I'm lucky or not but I have here, in town, an all original "collector" 1977 Honda Civic Hatchback with only 100K original KM (not miles) on it. It was apparently a show car, locally bought. The photos I've seen show it to be minty. It's sunflower yellow to boot! The guy is more than happy to show it off. His asking price is $6500. Should I get it? What would you do?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry guys, did I ask the wrong thing? I was thinking I'd get some replies. If my question seems improper or ridiculous or something, I apologize. I did want to know you thoughts. I have experience with Honda Civics from the late 90's but also had one, briefly, in the early 80's (it was a late 70's model). I was always in love with that one but never had a chance to see one in mint condition. Then, recently, I started searching, with the hope of buying back that early Honda I spoke about, the one I drove 30+ years ago (I was a kid back then). I was wondering what you guys thought about the guy's $6500 asking price for that mint 77 original? Are those old things still drivable in today's times, are they safe, reliable etc.... and is the price worth it for a minty one? Many thanks in advance.

This forum isn't as active as it used to be.

A honda of that vintage is a collectors item. It would be a good weekend car, or show car.

If you're gonna buy it for the nostalgia feeling, go for it, I don't think they are too easy to come across. There is a 79 civic in the project section here that you should look at.

For most cars the really collectible one is the first model that came out, which I think was 1976. For that price you could buy two mid 90's Civics in decent condition, which would be much better for daily driving.

Thanks guys. Yeah, nostalgia is about right and I don't know if I'd want to use it for everyday driving anyway. I've got some thinking to do, especially in light that indeed I can buy a couple of 90's Hondas for that money. Still they're not a 77! If only I had money to spare..... ......
