5th gen vs 6th gen hatch
Hey guys whats up Im looking at getting a 5th or 6th gen civic hatch the 2 candidates are a 95 DX hatch with the d15b7 (if im not mistaken) and a 99 DX with a d16y7 (again if im not mistaken) Ive got around $4500 saved up and id like to buy the car and have some $ for I/H/E anyway Ive been researching for a while and im kind of stuck. I like the way the 6th gen looks but I think the 5th has a stronger following. anyway my question is I could put a head from a d16Y8 on the 6th gen right? (isnt that a mini me?) and I can get a pretty decent price on a new head I read the only difference (besides the obvious) is one wire for the Vtec? and couldnt I swap in the same on the d15? ( I thought i read that). at this time i dont have time time or money to deal with a full swap. and im not looking for ground breaking performance just a little more then the stock 100 or so and a little bit of gas mileage improvement over my current truck. Which would be the better choice (a full swap may come in the future so keep that in your thoughts) thank you in advance -Dave

on the mini-me, yea you can do it on either the d16y7 or d15b7. You would use either a d16y8 or d16z6 head. It'll be easier to do the y8 onto the y7 or the z6 onto the b7 because the y7 and y8 are both OBD2 and the z6 and b7 are both OBD1. Yes the only difference is wiring up VTEC (But I think it's 2 wires not 1). You'd also need the corresponding ECU. The 5th gen hatch is a little lighter than the 6th gen. If the 95 is in the same or better condition as the 99 you should go with the 5th gen. If the 99 is in better condition you should go with the 99. Also depends on mileage of the 2 vehicles and the price difference. How much is each one for sale for and how many miles are on it? How good of condition are they in?

RE: 5th gen vs 6th gen hatch
thats why its hard they are both in darn good condition
the 5th gen is at around 105K for 3995
the 6th gen is at around 162K for 2900
the 6th gen is cleaner looking but the 5th gen is just as straight and may need a wash but is also more $ but truly negligible in price considering mileage difference and demand for them. the hoods popped on the 5th gen not bent lol that's my predicament

5th gen hatch > 6th gen hatch
But for me it's just a matter of taste...... I happen to think the 5th gen hatch is one of the sweetest lookin Civics ever made!!..... and if I had one, I would tint the windows, drop it and throw on some Si rims.....nothing else!!(I hate the way they look with those rear wings!!)
6th gen hatches are pretty rare I think, I hardly ever see one and that appeals to me, Im always striving to be different.....I like being the oddball![sm=bananallama.gif]
I just happen to think the 6th gen hatch is kinda FUGLY!

out here in so cal the 6th gen are not overly rare just harder to find then a coupe or sedan. The 5th gen is the hard one to find but thats again due to the fact people want them more then the 6th. a Si of either gen is hard to find (wouldnt mind one of those)

niether of the cars pictured above is a 95 hatch, the 95 hatches have the thinner head and tail lights and a less protruding rear hatch, both of those cars are 96-00

i didn't even notice those were different cars. i thought it was just 2 pics of the 6th gen.
yea both of those are 6th gen.
which means the one you said is 95, isn't, and it doesn't have the D15B7 motor. Since it's a DX though, then they both have the D16Y7 unless it's been swapped.
If that's the case, I think you should go with the one with 105K miles because it's just the same car in better condition.
